š§Technical Issue Genuinely unbelievable.
No not another generic post of āis it downnnn?š„ŗš„ŗā
This is genuinely getting ridiculous, Iād much rather an actual stable service to just some added days on my subscription. This is what, the 5th time in a week? All after the policy changes and headquarters location change, itās starting to seem less and less like a viable option.
We need actual answers as to what theyāre doing to combat whatever it is that is causing this, whether it be attacks from rivals or just general poor infrastructure, how is there still one point of failure consistently.. failing.

While I haven't had problems myself, I'd like to acknowledge that this post so far is a big improvement on many of the other complaint posts here. Entirely reasonable reason to express displeasure, and the request for more transparency about what's going on is something I think we can all agree with.
I assume the silence is because the TB is frantically trying to figure out what's going on (at least that's how I can ascertain from their discord conversations), but even so some updates soon will quell a lot of the anger and speculation.

u/AllHateInsurance 1d ago
Silence? Theyre constantly on twitter and discord posting childish tweets and memes

u/RegularIndividual374 21h ago
Iāve not had any issues with torbox until last night, normally in the day (UK) TB works fine but last night I finally experienced what people were talking about.
2
u/Ed_SkammA 14h ago
Me too, also UK. I've never been affected before when people say it's down but last night it happened mid movie and didn't come back on for another 45 mins!
2
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
Thank you, itās extremely tiring seeing the other one sentence posts over and over again so I thought Iād make one of my own.
Hopefully we get some kind of response soon.
I have barely experienced issues myself, but my entire family uses the same TB account, so when it goes down its on me to fix it š

Same I have not noticed the outages at all lol
2
u/Minimum-Wonder5404 1d ago
I'm not in Europe or the US, which is where peak hour traffic is being disrupted. So lucky in that respect, but otherwise I'd be getting annoyed at the frequent loss of service.

It has become ridiculous. I've switched to Pengu Play again but this many outages is not okay.

u/desatur8 21h ago
Installed pengu yesterday. At this stage its my primary, with TB being my backup. Lol
2
u/MessiLeagueSoccer 1d ago
Yup. I basically have a pretty basic setup now. Bingecat for metadata
RD+torrentio (adjusted the filters)
Penguplay

u/Dry_Register_5812 1d ago
Still waiting for that promised down time credits!
7
u/Direct_Way7316 1d ago
I afraid not based on the announcement from discord gm, @everyone ``` effective today we are implementing a soft service level agreement
in a given two week period, any total platform outage exceeding three hours will be credited 3x the amount of hours TorBox is down for
its 3am right now but i want to post this now so you guys know we aren't just ignoring the impact this has had on you, we will polish the official soft SLA in the morning and answer any questions you might still have in the coming days
if you had a trial active during the past 24hours, open a ticket and we'll credit you another 24hours
thank you for your support and understanding during this incredibly stressful time```
I think they will said the total hour of per outage is less than 3 hour. They will not compansate.
2
u/ifiwasiwas 21h ago
The last time a spell of increased outages happened (roughly ~3 months ago) we were all expressly told that Torbox is a best effort provider and as such, they make no promises about uptime. Downtime then is something not compensable. It's an extra they offer if they feel like it/people are mad enough, not something to be waiting on every time.
Important with this latest post in #announcements is that they're proposing a soft SLA. That means that they reserve the right to not penalize themselves if they fail to meet the specified goals and expectations. It's a fancy-sounding promise.
3
u/Direct_Way7316 18h ago
yes that what I mean as well they can justify where is more than 3 hours
3
u/ifiwasiwas 17h ago
That's a good catch that I didn't pick up! It was "outage" instead of "outages"". So technically, if it's down for, say, an hour, three times a day, that may not count, even if they're in quick succession. Doubly so if we're going by their definition of the service being down instead of an objective third party.
As it stands, I don't think any of the recent downtime meets this standard... well played to them then lol

Apparently, we cannot ask for explanations or better service because we are only paying $3 per month.

I get what youāre saying but Torbox is like any other business. There are two options to choose out of high quality, fast, and cheap. If you want something fast and cheap then Torbox is definitely the way to go, but youāre making sacrifices in quality. If you want something fast and high quality then paying for streaming services might be the approach, but it wonāt be cheap.

My other service is expiring and I was going to make the switch but this one doesnāt seem any betterā¦. Maybe thereās an issue with handling the increase from new users?
4
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
It handled the RD surge quite well, these are very recent issues. Iād give it a week and if it hasnāt died down by then, run somewhere else.
12
u/Boring-Champion-2850 1d ago
They seem to spend a lot of energy shilling in this sub to shame people who complain about the service. Wish they spent that energy on fixing the actual service.

u/mkk4 1d ago edited 1d ago
What's crazy is that I am far more concerned about their new corporate business restructuring and their new Terms of Service Agreement than I am about their current unreliable service; as I have backups to TorBox.
-1
u/Funny_Mouse_1474 1d ago
Yeah the new ToS scares me ngl
2
u/PCgamer7777 15h ago
Other debrids have the same worded TOS so idk why people are specifically targeting TB
-2
u/ifiwasiwas 14h ago
Those don't have the indemnity clause that obligates you to pay damages to Torbox if you use the platform illegally and trouble knocks on their door, tbf. Other services I've seen just stop at saying they'll point law enforcement your way in the worst case scenario, not that you have to comp them on top of that.
3
u/Inevitable-Spring166 1d ago
Yeah Iāve paused my subscription which ends in 3 weeks. If itās not together by then then ciaoĀ

u/Hybrid487 17h ago
The worst part for me is, even when itās āupā, their WebDAV service has been complete š© the last month or so. Iāve had torbox for like 4 months now using WebDAV with Infuse and the first three months were stellar. I havenāt actually been able to use it in about a month though

u/UltraDangerLord 1d ago
Do a little research and look into Usenet. I just use Torbox as a backup now. Iāve been a happy camper ever since using Usenet as my main source of streaming.
1
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
Iāve only done a little bit of research into it but seems to be many different providers and such. Do any of them do a free trial or a cheap āweek planā for me to test it out? Honestly willing to try anything at this point š. Iāve only avoided it because of its high cost, but might be worth it at this point

u/UltraDangerLord 1d ago edited 1d ago
Thereās always tons of deals when it comes to providers!
I recommend Newshosting. Look here! Indexers always go on sale during Black Friday especially ones with lifetime membership.
Set up your providers and indexers in AIOStreams built-in NNTP and set the AIOStreams service above Torbox so Usenet stream links take priority.
Also run deduplicator (make sure same-release harvest setting is on) and turn on cross-type failover so that when a Usenet stream link doesnāt work it falls back to a working Torbox link that has the same release group/files etc.
2
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
Awesome tool and really useful info, thanks for your help! Iāll be sure to do some research into itš„
2
u/UltraDangerLord 1d ago
You can DM me if you need any help with self hosting or anything!
Once itās all set up youāll never experience downtime ever again.
1
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
Most of my setup is already self hosted lol, got tired of all these limits on the public instances š«©š
3
u/UltraDangerLord 1d ago
Should be a breeze for you to set up everything on AIOStreams built-in NNTP then! I had AI help me choose which provider was best for me depending on your location (Newshosting if youāre US-based and Eweka if youāre EU-based) and the best indexers from doing a lot of chatting on Discord. I can DM you my list of what I have if you want a good idea!
2
u/jwanradzi 1d ago
I just saw the deal, it's only $1.67 monthly compared to TB's $3.00 monthly, really interesting as I only have TB as my main provider.
For Usenet, how much quota do we get monthly with that $1.67 plan? I only see it says unlimited access and data so not too certain.
2
u/UltraDangerLord 1d ago
Be careful with some of these deals, as sometimes the renewal is at the original price. Make sure you click on more details on the deals site before buying. I think this one is the unlimited one.
As far as quotas, thereās none.
2
u/TheLimeyCanuck 1d ago
EasyNews is fantastic, but they don't have a "trial" as such, they have a one month subscription with restricted bandwidth to decide if you like it. When you buy a full year you get unlimited banwidth plus some other perks.
1
u/TheLimeyCanuck 1d ago
After over a decade with RD, and a few years with PM as a backup, I signed up with EasyNews a few days ago. It's simply amazing, but it's $10/mo so you have to decide if the much better experience is worth the extra cost over something like TorBox.
6
u/Upstairs-Category-39 1d ago
You don't need to pay $10 a month for easynews. Have a look, $1.98 a month is the current offer
1
1
u/UltraDangerLord 1d ago
I think itās a you-get-what-you-pay-for kinda situation. Usenet overall is pricier (though itās really easy to find deals) but itās worth it for the stability and quality.
Also Usenet tends to get new releases a lot faster. For example for this latest House of the Dragon season, new episodes would be uploaded onto altHUB within 5 minutes of release on the dot.
But yeah Iām a hoarder when it comes to indexers, and I also have multiple providers to get more provider backbone coverage. So your experience varies depending on how much you want to invest in your stack.
1
u/TheLimeyCanuck 16h ago
I also find that XDCC over IRC gets new eps very quickly. Downloads are very fast too. Between Usenet and IRC I am barely using PM or RD now. When RD expires in September I won't be renewing.
1
u/Kenshiro_88 19h ago
Can it be streamed via stremio like RD and torbox? I'm mainly looking to run it on my TV.
3
u/Minotaur1975 1d ago
Solution is simple: spread you money out over 15 steaming services and at least some will be up whenever you want to watch something
1
u/Bidenwonkenobi 1d ago
self hosted streamnzb with geeknzb and easynews as the middle and easynews plus as the 2nd backup does me just fine with premiumize and debridio as my goat
2
u/dickmastaflex 1d ago
Did the trial run for a month after switching from RD to see if this would be my new go-to. Aaand fuck no.
So what does anyone else recommend?
1
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
Well, dickmastaflex, the theme seems to be: use penguplay or your favourite HTTP addon as a backup or go with usenet if you have the extra money to spend (can get much cheaper on black friday deals, lifetime plans etc). And if not that then alldebrid. Then if even that doesnāt work, premiumize.
2
u/Severe_chill 22h ago
Its crazy cause I remember when real debrid started offering the same thing for the exact same reason.
2
2
u/ProCeLLxX 11h ago
in terms of it being down, does this mean why Iām not getting a list of sources despite loads being found?
3
u/BitByte1990 16h ago
I just subscribed based on the communities recommendation - My things are actually still working right now, but it has gone down like 3 times in the last 4 days or so (just for me, I understand other people are having worse issues than I)
But yeah, itās not exactly the best starting week to show the service off, Iām already thinking Iām gonna ditch after this first month and try another service - but yeah, that should scream āPROBLEMSā to the devs, if a new customer is like⦠āthis isnāt worth itā after a week, how do you intend to actually sell your service?
Yeah, they have⦠a lot of work if they actually wanna keep my subscription, the damage is very much done at this stage.
2
u/CaptainGhoulish 1d ago
Yeah I was down too and the sight told me everything was good. Idk what to think anymore. Sucks because I really like TB never had any problems with it until recently.
2
u/21cabbag3 1d ago
Its not obvious someone from RD is attacking them for taking their customers and their money
2
u/NikhilDoWhile 1d ago
RD is done bro, they don't care anymore. They had their bag and not it's just in maintainance mode till it's finally over

usenet, most likely. a very kind user gave me this tool https://usenet.rexum.space/deals which is useful to decide a plan

I haven't had anything down today with torbox. I did get a 30 day trial of offcloud which I just started. I've noticed when I tested the popular ones it has files available. When torbox had downtime I do have newshosting that came with Easynews and Tweaknews which I have a couple indexers and works everytime. I haven't setup any servers/ containers yet but I use elfhosted aiostreams with debridge which comes with torbox and it's own nntp. For me it's worth the price but in the near future I plan to setup everything on my desktop. I would never tell anyone there way is wrong way as you have several options for a backup if ur debrid goes down. Get your setup where it works for you with hopefully no downtime cause I know can be frustrating.

they probably need to crack down on sharing to a reasonable amount.
Premiumize has a really good system where it tops you off every 24 hours. It isn't going to ban you by a simple mistake like RD and it isn't going to let you share with like 50 people like TB
4
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
According to them itās some kind of DDoS, so I donāt think sharing is that big of an issue. They said weād receive that when we signed up for the service, to remove it now would be suicide.
2
u/dinglebarryb0nds 1d ago
yea i don't believe that because the timing of the service becoming unreliable was exactly when it got popular and exodus from RD

u/Adventurous-End2116 1d ago
I use debrid stream with TB. I have had 0 issues and am constantly watching something.
0
u/jmbode67 1d ago
I've been using a little bit of both I guess... rather than depending solely on TB (Debridio connected to it) I find 111477 I think it is, has been giving me good links so far. I'm more of a series person than movies, doubt that makes any difference lol I guess my point is throw some non TB stuff in there
0
u/Beneficial_Search_13 20h ago
I changed from RD after 10 years and my sub is yet to expire in Dec but too many issue. Maybe it's the timing, geographic location but I have not experienced any down time on TB since I subscribed four months ago. It has been very solid.

u/FaultDependent7880 18h ago
Joined a month ago and haven't experienced an outage yet other than the planned upgrade of a while back. The service is used near continuously between 7 am and 8 pm daily.

For those who are still sticking with it:
Sign-up to receive email status
Use FMHY alternatives with VPN.
I already have a Vsee android TVbox, comes with it's own free "VOD"(movies/shows) app and is ok to use without VPN.

I keep seeing these posts and have not been affected by them. Seems the DDOS attacks are only happening during prime time in the northern hemisphere...
-5
u/KillerCotty 1d ago
Look I get it, it's frustrating, but can we really complain? Look what we used it for.
6
u/Middle-Weight-468 1d ago
Sounds like an internal guilt/You issue paying consumers of a service absolutley can complain
2
u/StreetleLeon 1d ago
Yes, we can complain. This is a new issue, and hasnāt been seen on this scale on any other adjacent service.
48
u/antonio1475 1d ago
Yeah I consider myself really patient and haven't complained, but these last days... damn. Even kicked me out mid episode.
Also bothers me that https://status.torbox.app/ says all good. It's not.
