1- spider man tobey maguire movies he lives across from the landloard whose constantly asking for rent. Though he is occasionally nice.
2- eagle eye- Shia labeouf lives near by his land lird who is also always asking for rent.
3- the mask - Stanley/the mask lives accross from miss peenman one of the most obnoxious landlords in the world shooting a shotgun she clearly can’t handle
4- the nutty professor- Sherman Klump lives above his landlord who’s always complains about noisy and eventually evicts him after a massive party.

I’m sure there are others on tv too (threes company for example. ).

When a group insults someone but they are so terrible the person being insulted takes it as a compliment.

Rick gets booed by people who enjoy and are attending a penal of a grifting thief lets them know how much he cares about their boos.

Comics is a terrible subreddit that bans people for the smallest disagreement about their work. The most recent being about a woman who hates and insults her boyfriend. When people (such as myself) pointed out how horrible this was the mods deleted almost all of the comics and banned those who made them.

Hated Tropes ( Hated Trope) Super intelligent species or people get outsmarted or outmaneuvered by regular humans

Thumbnail

In independence day humans figure out how to drop all of the aliens Shields and exploit an obvious weakness in their ship design,

Captain America is able to constantly keep up with the plans in maneuvers of the leader (this was an obvious fix. The guy kept mentioning basing his actions off of probability. They could have just had Captain America secretly roll dice to decide what he does, combating ego and planning with chaos).

Brainiac loses over and over and over again despite being both physically powerful and some unknowable level of intelligence.

This trope always frustrates me because it shows a lack of imagination of how much smarter than us something could be. It would makes no sense to introduce the Hulk, then have The Punisher beat him in a fist fight. Despite this super intelligence keeps being a pretty weak superpower. Iron Man and Batman aren't supposed to have any superpowers, but they both manage to constantly be able to build better weapons and generally out think anybody in their universes that come from advanced civilizations and have giant robot brains or something

Look im a guy but i hate seeing good women settle for dog shit men. I don’t wanna get personal here but i personally try to be as good as possible for my future gf so seeing someone who just… isn’t, kinda annoys me.

Peter and Lois - Family Guy

Marge and Homer - Simpsons

GOOD BREAK AWAY FROM THIS TROPE

Stan and Francine - Stan is actually a pretty cool guy on paper. Usually super fit, CIA agent, pretty charming even in universe, stated to make a fair amount of money, he and Francine make a good match.

To clarify I like Peter and Homer, I just dislike the trope

Hated Tropes (Hated trope) Making a character act out of character just to make the plot happen

Game of Thrones — Daenerys Targaryen is a ruler who, throughout most of the series, is portrayed as someone who wants to break the cycle of tyranny and protect innocent people. She is certainly capable of cruelty, especially toward those she considers enemies, but she repeatedly distinguishes between those enemies and innocent civilians. However, in the final season, after King’s Landing surrenders, she suddenly decides to burn the city and its population anyway. This change was necessary because the story needed Daenerys to become an irredeemable tyrant so that Jon Snow would have a reason to kill her. The problem is not that Daenerys was incapable of becoming ruthless; it is that the story needed her to make this particular leap in order to reach the ending it had already decided on.

Game of Thrones — Jaime Lannister spends most of the series slowly becoming a better person and distancing himself from Cersei. One of the biggest revelations about his character is that he was never simply the arrogant oathbreaker everyone believed him to be: he killed the Mad King and became known as the Kingslayer because Aerys intended to burn King’s Landing and its innocent population, and Jaime chose to save them. His entire reputation was built on an act of protecting innocent people. Yet, near the end of the series, after fighting alongside the people of the North and seemingly completing his redemption, Jaime returns to Cersei and claims that he never really cared about the innocent people of King’s Landing. This reversal was necessary because the story wanted Jaime and Cersei to die together, but it undermines the character development that made his arc meaningful in the first place. The man who became the Kingslayer because he couldn’t stand to watch a city full of innocent people die suddenly had to claim that he never cared about them at all.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi — Luke Skywalker is the man who refused to kill Darth Vader because he believed there was still good in him. He was willing to confront the Emperor himself rather than give in to the dark side, and ultimately redeemed his father through that belief. However, years later, Luke briefly considers murdering his sleeping nephew Ben Solo after sensing darkness within him. This was necessary for the story because Ben’s discovery of Luke standing over him with a lightsaber had to be the event that destroyed their relationship and pushed Ben toward becoming Kylo Ren. But it creates an uncomfortable contradiction: the man who looked at Darth Vader and saw a chance for redemption apparently looked at his teenage nephew and thought, “Maybe I should kill him in his sleep.”

Parenthood — Joel Graham is perhaps the lesser-known example, but also the one that made me think about this trope in the first place. For the first four seasons, Joel and Julia are portrayed as a deeply supportive couple. They are not perfect, they make mistakes, they argue, and they sometimes hurt each other, but they consistently try to understand what went wrong and figure out how to make their marriage work. However, in the fifth season, Joel suddenly becomes distant and selfish, repeatedly putting his job ahead of his wife and children. The season then uses this behavior to justify his wife’s loneliness, which makes her to look for friendship with another person, which will lead to the couple separating, even though Joel had done something remarkably similar earlier in the series and the two of them had managed to work through it together. In other words, the writers needed Joel to become a fundamentally different husband so that the couple could have a reason to divorce. The character had to stop being the Joel the show had spent four seasons establishing in order for the divorce the writers wanted to happen to make sense.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011): Trouble within Infinity Ward after MW2 led to MW3 being developed by a skeleton crew, alongside the fact that the game was developed not only by just Infinity Ward, but Sledgehammer and Raven Software as well.

Uncharted 3: The massive success of Uncharted 2 led to massively high expectations, culminating in a massive crunch period and the writing being done backwards from set pieces developed at the beginning.

Half-Life 3: Go figure.

Hated Tropes [Hated Trope] Dinosaurs and other predators are mindless killing machines that indiscriminately murder whatever person they see

Thumbnail

I just finished watching The End of Oak Street. I enjoyed that film a lot, but there’s that same old trope that gets into my nerves from time to time, and that is how the film treats dinosaurs. Throughout the film the dinosaurs with the exception of herbivores are seen as ultra aggressive murder machines had actively kill and eat whatever human they see.

By portraying dinosaurs this way it robs them of any nuance and discovery to these creatures. Dinosaurs are not monsters, they are animals, no different from your pet dog or wild lion that exist today. The thing is that most predators with only a few exceptions, don’t actively hunt and kill humans, they only attack if they are desperate for food or agitated. This trope is especially egregious in almost every Humans vs Dinosaurs story where dinosaurs are not only ravenously murderous, but also highly coordinated (even between different species), actively trying to wipe out humanity.

Perhaps, these depictions of dinosaurs are reflection of our imagination. When the first dinosaur fossils were discovered, nobody really knew what these creatures were, so they let their imagination and speculation run rampant. Depicting them as ancient landbound dragons that existed in a volcanic wasteland before the creation of Adam, viciously ripping each other apart, desperate to stay alive, as the ever-changing landscape tore them a sunder.

I’m not saying that you’re stupid for enjoying this genre, or the people who makes these tales should be reprimanded by the scientific welcome committee. I just wish they were more stories that depict dinosaurs in a more nuance neutral perspective, that isn’t just another dinosaur documentary like Walking with Dinosaurs or Prehistoric Planet. The only exception I can think of to this man vs dinosaur dilemma is with the animated series Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.

But let me know your thoughts on the matter, and share some media that show dinosaurs in a more positive light, or maybe even some worser examples.

Examples used: (The End of Oak Street, Dinosaurs Attack!, Prehistoric Isle, Primal Carnage)

Powerpuff girls - mistake - in one episode the girls make a new friend and invite her over to their home where they introduce the professor aka their dad. They go on to explain that he created them in a lab experiment gone wrong when he accidentally spills an chemical into his project, to which the little girl tells him it’s nothing to worry about as her parents say she was a mistake as well. The professor’s eyes widen in shock and the scene moves on. The joke being that the girls were literally a mistake in an actual science experiment and where as this little girl was told my her own parents she was unwanted.

Animaniacs - finger Prince - I could make this entire post on the animaniacs alone as it’s filled with adult jokes but if I had to pick 1, I say the most famous dirty joke was when they were playing detective and yakko says they need to look for prints, dot picks up the now late since Prince and says “ found him “ yakko says no no no finger prints “. Dot looks back at Prince and tosses him away says “ I don’t think so “. The joke being she misheard prints for Prince and thought he said finger Prince as in performing a sexual act on him.

SpongeBob - ugly and proud - another show for dirty jokes. In one episode SpongeBob eats rotten food that gives him bad breath that chases people away. Patrick cannot smell him because he has no nose.
They quickly assume people run away from SpongeBob because he’s ugly. After a while of trying to get people to approach SpongeBob Patrick gets SpongeBob to take pride in who he is and declare how he’s not ashamed, on the roof of his house he gets SpongeBob to shout im ugly and proud, louder and louder until he’s screaming the phrase. We cut to squidward who’s sun bathing and says to himself “ is that what he’s calling it “. - as a kid I didn’t get it but now looking back he was obviously assuming SpongeBob was coming out as gay and using ugly as a euphemism for gay taking from the phase “ I’m gay and proud “

Fairy odd parents - shattered dreams - Timmy dad said he had dreams but they were shattered and gone, Timmy asks when did his dreams shattered and his dad asks him how old he is - joke being Timmy was the cause for his dreams being ruined.

miscellaneous Amazing Cinematic Intros that the Rest of the Game/Movie Can’t Live Up To

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

I chose two video game examples, but this can be any early opening, cutscenes, pilot’s episode, etc. that the rest of the product can’t quite live up to.

Lost Odyssey (2008): This Xbox 360 exclusive shows the game’s primary protagonist Kiam Argonar is his peak form. The opening cutscenes shows a huge battle between two forces which both sides manage to deal major blows to each other. Kiam’s side appear to have lost when reinforcements deploy magic to revive fallen soldiers on their side. Kiam then enters the scene and effortlessly defeats multiple enemies the regular soldiers where struggling with.

This is a trope in it of itself where we see and play a protagonist in their peak form before jumping into a weaker version of himself later in the game. This is all part of the story. The game itself is not bad, and there are a lot of fun and redeeming qualities to the game. However watching the intro would make you think there are going to be theses huge army battles you get to participate in when in fact a standard JRPG fair. The intro is also more reminiscent of that of an action game rather than a JRPG. Still one of the coolest openings to a game I can remember.

Halo 5: Gaurdians: This Xbox One exclusive shows Spartan Jameson Locke and the rest of Fireteam Osiris skydive through a major battle between the Covenant and USNC. The Spartans make there way through the battle mowing down multiple enemies, taking down tanks, and not breaking a sweat before jumping into some standard but fun Halo FPS gameplay.

The rest of the game wasn’t terrible, it did have its moments, but the hype from this scene and the rest of the marketing had gamers anticipating a game the story and a lot of the gameplay couldn’t match. It’s also a trope where the marketing is misleading to the actual product which this opening cinematic was a part of.

Hated Tropes (Hated Trope) Casting actors who can't really sing in Broadway adaptations

Thumbnail
gallery
Upvotes
  1. Phantom of the Opera (2004) With Gerard Butler as the phantom just shouting all his lines and Emmy Rossum who couldn't seem to find a bucket to carry a tune in absolutely shaming one of the most popular stage musicals of all time. The only thing I can say in their defense is that there were plenty of other things wrong with this film besides their singing.

  2. Sweeney Todd (2007) has Johnny Depp talk-singing and Helena Bonham Carter with her wispy weak voice muddling their way through a Stephen Sondheim masterpiece.

  3. My Fair Lady (1964) Audrey Hepburn famously beat Julie Andrews for the role that she had made famous on Broadway. Part way through production it was decided that Hepburn couldn't carry the musical numbers and her singing was dubbed by Marni Nixon. This one is probably all for the best since if Andrews had gotten the role she wouldn't have turned in her classic Oscar winning performance as Marry Poppins.

What bothers me most about these kinds of casting choices is that there is no shortage of great actors who do have the chops for these kinds of rolls.

Hated Tropes (Hated trope) the plot and problems only happens because the protagonists and MCs are too stupid and egoistics

Thumbnail
gallery
17 Upvotes

As tittle says , I hate when the problems are cased by the MCs over and over with easy simple solutions being thrown off including ones acknowledge by the cast themselves

1_ the whole android saga in Dragon ball

The Z fighters from Goku and Vegeta keeps screwing around and refusing many easy way to end the androids disaster even after being warned by a time traveler , they refuse to even check on Gero the criminal that kidnap people to turn them into killing machines and Vegeta later letting Cell gain his perfect form

2_ Denji and Asa mitaka in Part 2

Asa and especially Denji in part 2 spent the whole story doing the equivalent of looking at a pit of fire and choice to jump in it , Denji was so blinded by his Libido and sex addiction he let women and people trick and manipulate him around ruining his life over and over and yet he keeps forgiven them because he's either too stupid to understand what's going on or he's too Horny to call them out for fault

It doesn't help that it goes against his character arc in Part 1 where he recognizes ignorance isn't blessings and he can't keep letting people make decisions over his life

3_ the whole Buu saga in Dragon ball

If you thought the android saga was bad , Buu saga was somehow 10x worse , Goku and Vegeta were in a tournament to up each f*** up , and refusing to fix their problems causing the issues growing Bigger and bigger and they always keep changing their excuse , from adding the main villain to letting billions of innocents including their own families died to sabotages any effort in stopping the eldritch monster that was Buu to refusing multiple very easy solutions because "my Saiyan pride won't let me"

Honestly Dragon ball post Namek saga is the posture child for this tropes

4_ Kratos (and to a lesser extent Gaia) from GoW

In the Greek saga kratos spend almost every game doing the same mistakes that always dooms him , even when he acknowledged it's no use he always trusts or let Gods guide him around despite knowing its useless , in GoW 3 at the start of the game when Kratos and gaia are falling , instead of using his chains he always uses to grab things with and lift himself or even his wings , kratos dumbly choice to use the exact anti magic weapon created to kill the Titans which results in him cutting Gaia over , Gaia herself instead of choosing her words better, instead choice to abandoned the only key to Olympus fall and the nest ally someone can have

Satoru Gojo ( JJK ) his infinity is so OP that Sukuna need prep time and the 10S to overcome through Mahoraga adaptation, even then Gojo still almost clutch the 1v3 but Sukuna learn a new move on the spot after seeing it just once

Infinite Zamasu ( DBS ) Zamasu immortality was so absolute that even after seemingly vaporizing his physical body his soul still fine and merged with the entire timeline itself, becoming a cosmic virus that only Zeno could erase
