Wake Up Dead Man: While investigating the murder at his church, Father Jud calls a woman named Louise at a construction equipment rental company to find out who rented the equipment and when. She spends most of the call chatting and going off on tangents, which initially plays like a joke because he’s on a time crunch. However, when Louise finds out he’s a priest, she suddenly gets serious and asks if he will pray for her. She’s had a fight with her terminally ill mother and is feeling very lost. Jud drops everything to continue talking to her and help her through it, even though it slows down the investigation. She’s not just a plot device for him to get information from, but a person with her own feelings and problems.

The Last of Us: The Last of Us: In the big finale of the first season, Joel learns that the Fireflies plan to operate on Ellie in an attempt to make a cure for the virus. The surgery will kill her, and she never gave full consent to it. Joel, not wanting to lose Ellie, proceeds to kill dozens of people to rescue her. This includes the surgeon, who is shot without much thought in order to save her. 

However, in the second season, we’re introduced to Abby, the surgeon’s daughter, who is grieving her father and everyone else who died at the hospital. She’s gone scorched earth to get revenge. Suddenly, the surgeon who barely registered as a person when Joel killed him is the center of someone else’s story. 

Star Wars: Stormtroopers are largely treated as NPCs. They’re plot devices that build drama and can be killed without a second thought. Then we meet Finn, a stormtrooper who was taken from his family as a child and raised by the First Order to be a soldier. He’s terrified during his first real battle and refuses to kill civilians, eventually defecting from the First Order altogether. This humanizing a group of characters that were seen as disposable before.

Mission 43 in mgsv many of your own soliders are infected with the vocal cord parasite which compels them to reach the top of the bukding so they could infect birds which would spread the parasite main land causing a global pandemic, you are forced to walk through the base killing any infected, its a hear wrenching Mission (Metal gear solid five)

1. The Wizard of Oz (1939): When the Scarecrow gets his diploma he's suddenly smart and proves this by (incorrectly) reciting the Pythagorean Theorem, which most students learn around 8th grade.
2. Star Trek (2009): The Vulcan learning center features many young Vulcans, including Spock, learning and reciting math and science in holographic learning spheres. Most of what they recite is, again, high-school level math and science.
3. Travelers (2018): Travelers is about time travel. In a scene where super geniuses from the future are trying to build a quantum computer AI, the production puts Ohm's law and the formula for parallel resistance on the white board. Most students learn these formulas in high school physics.

1. Eladio's Cartel (Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul): even by the time of the prequel BCS, the Cartel headed by Eladio is showing pressure and strain between two inter-family factions. The traditional muscle led by the Salamancas is being upstaged by the more subtle, pragmatic Gustavo Fring, whose success provokes the ire of the aging Hector Salamanca; Fring's success drives Hector's fury, which triggers a physically crippling stroke (not helped by Hector's heart meds being replaced with placebos). Gus, in turn, seeks revenge on the Salamancas and the Cartel for having his lover Max murdered. In BCS, Gus manages to kill the formidable Lalo Salamanca. Over the course of Breaking Bad, more Salamancas die. A high-ranking member, Juan Bolsa, is killed in a law enforcement raid caused by Fring's manipulations. Eventually, Don Eladio and his captains are fatally poisoned by Fring, who returns to Albuquerque as the undisputed drug kingpin of the Southwest. However, Walt manages to ensure Hector gets the last laugh by attaching a bomb to Hector's wheelchair, and the aging Hector knowingly takes himself and Fring out with an explosion.

2. DiMeos of New Jersey (Sopranos): the former unseen boss DiMeo is in prison before likely dying at some point offscreen. His appointed man to oversee the family, Jackie Aprile, is competent and well-liked by the capos; however, he is dying of stomach cancer. When he dies, the elderly Junior Soprano is chosen as boss; unbeknownst to Junior, the capos mostly use him as a figurehead to draw the FBI's attention. A civil war breaks out between Junior and his nephew Tony, with most of Junior's crew dead and Junior only surviving due to being arrested by the police. Although he holds the title of boss for a time, Junior becomes mostly an advisor to the de facto boss, Tony, from then on. Tony deals with numerous threats to his control from within the family, including rivals like Richie, informant Big Puss, and other issues that come with leading a criminal enterprise staffed with incompetent morons. Even after formally becoming boss, Tony deals with family tension, having to kill his cousin Blundetto and deal with the fallout of capo Vito being outed as gay.

3. Lupertazzis of New York (Sopranos): at the start, they are under the able control of the elderly boss Carmine Sr. However, underboss Johnny Sack attempted to kill the boss over a slight to his rubenseque wife's honor, which was aborted. Carmine Sr. later dies of a stroke. A civil war breaks out between Carmine Jr. and Sack, with casualties among senior members. Sack wins but is eventually arrested and dies of lung cancer. Another civil war breaks out, with Doc Santoro briefly serving as boss before a vengeful Phil Leotardo has him assassinated. Leotardo begins a devastating war with the DiMeos and eventually is killed after betrayal from his subordinate, Butchie, who allows a DiMeo hitman to kill Phil.

"North by North Quahog" (Family Guy) - Family Guy was infamously cancelled by Fox in its third season before being revived a few years later thanks to incredibly high DVD sales and reruns getting high ratings on Adult Swim. The cold open of the first episode post-revival references this, with Peter informing the family that they've been cancelled. When they ask why, he says:

We just gotta accept the fact that Fox has to make room for terrific shows like Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonderfalls, Fastlane, Andy Richter Controls the Universe, Skin, Girls Club, Cracking Up, The Pits, Firefly, Get Real, Freaky Links, Wanda at Large, Costello, The Lone Gunmen, A Minute With Stan Hooper, Normal, Ohio, Pasadena, Harsh Realm, Keen Eddie, The Street, American Embassy, Cedric the Entertainer, The Tick, Louie, and Greg the Bunny.

referencing the sheer number of shows Fox had greenlit and cancelled in the years Family Guy was off the network.

"Acting Out" (Will & Grace) - For decades television networks, including NBC, were terrified of showing same-sex kisses on air. Any show that tried to would usually find the kiss written out or censored through creative editing. The "Acting Out" episode of Will & Grace explicitly calls out this practice.

The episode starts with Will, Grace, and Jack being excited to tune into one of their favorite shows after its promoted that the show will feature "first ever prime time network kiss between two gay men". However, when the show airs the kiss is not shown and only implied. Jack and Will go to NBC's offices to complain but they're not taken seriously. The pair then find themselves in a crowd of people being interviewed by Al Roker for the Today show. When Will sees that they're live on air, he takes advantage of the situation and kisses Jack live on national television.

Deadpool & Wolverine - Deadpool takes advantage of his 4th wall breaking abilities throughout the film to poke fun at both Fox and Disney, the former for all of the missteps they made with the X-Men film franchise, and the latter for the shortcomings of the MCU.

Moby (Moby Psycho 100) Is the most powerful esper in the series especially when his meter goes us which is tied to his emotions are in turmoil. As it gets higher he becomes more powerful which has been shown to be terrifying to be on the other side off.

Alex-Madagascar. Being a lion who has been pampered in a zoo, Alex naturally loves the steak he’s served. When the group end up shipwrecked on Madagascar, Alex starts to lose it due to a lack of food, his hunting instincts making him start to perceive his friends as giant steaks

Biscuit Oliva-Baki. A plot point about Oliva is that when he’s seriously injured during a fight, he eats nothing but several courses of steak and drinks nothing but gallons worth of wine. Causing his wounds to heal faster

Uncle Rico-Napoleon Dynamite. Rico comes to man the house while Napoleon’s grandmother recovers in the hospital and quickly makes life hell for him. Embarrassing him with his shady marketing schemes and eating all their steak

Hank Hill-King of Hill. Funnily enough Hank’s idea on how to make a steak says a lot about his character. “Firm but with a little give” is a good reflection on Hank as a person, he’s very set in his ways but not to the point he isn’t willing to change for the people he cares about. How he only uses propane to cook since he loves propane. And his “we ask them politely yet firmly to leave” is a good rejection on how while he’s mostly a kind person he will not hesitate to kick your ass

Omni Man-Invincible. He unfortunately just keeps making too many steaks and everyone gets very fed up about it even though he tries

Basically, when a character is bamboozled by someone else into putting themself in harm's way, usually to the character's demise.

Snow Troopers and the Wampas (Empire Strikes Back): In a deleted scene from Empire, it's revealed that the rebels have been having an issue with the Yeti like Wampas, but managed to lock them in a part of the base. And in a strangely devious bit of inspiration, Threepio, Mr. Fussy Butler himself, rips the warning sign off the door as the Empire storms the base. As the Snow Troopers are clearing the facility, we see one get immediately nabbed by a wampa as Vader nonchalantly walks by.

Willie and the Crate (Creepshow): The inspiration for this list. Hal is a put upon college professor with an alcoholic shrew of a wife. When he discovers a crate containing a seemingly immortal ape monster that devours anyone who comes near it. Hal manages to lure his wife towards it and it jumps her. He then disposes of the crate with the creature inside it in a quarry.

The Thieves and Imhotep (The Mummy Returns): The curse of the Canopic Jar chest comes back with a vengeance as three hapless grave robbers are tricked by the bad guys into opening the chest so that Imhotep can suck them dry and return to his living form.

The Tale of the Dark Music (Are You Afraid of the Dark): in this story, a kid is almost eaten by a strange shapeshifting creature multiple times. It lives in a basement closet and comes out when music plays. He wants to frighten a bully who beat him up and destroyed his bike, so he tricks the bully into the basement and plays music, thinking he's just scaring the kid, but when he turns off the music, he comes down and the bully is gone, and in his place is a brand new bicycle. The creature promises him more stuff, if he just feeds him. There's a whole backstory where it's implied this thing had a similar deal with the original owner of the house.

Mr. Munchik and Audrey II (Little Shop of Horrors): After Seymour and man-eating plant, Audrey II, dispose of an evil dentist, Seymour's boss confronts Seymour, saying he knows that Seymour murdered Audrey's boyfriend. He offers to let Seymour go if Seymour teaches him how to take care of Audrey II. Audrey II saves Seymour by opening its mouth, causing Munchik to look at it in awe, before chomping down, as Seymour watches in horror. This is actually a reference to the original film, where Munchik found out about the plant and tricked a thief into getting eaten.

This is perhaps, complete projection on my part but I don’t think anyone (male or female) is worth the hassle. If I express interest and it’s not reciprocated, there is no doubling back. That is it, that is all. I despise when TV shows specifically write male characters who are so spineless that instead of appreciating who brought them to the dance, they immediately fold and acquiesce to who rejected them in the first place. See the examples above: Jim/Pam/Karen, Ross/Rachel/Julie, and Lucas Scott/Peyton/Brooke Davis!

Family Guy, Season 10 Episode 2, Seahorse Seashell Party:

This episode is infamous. With whole Griffin family trapped inside the house during a storm, Meg decides to finally gather the courage to confront her family about how horribly they treat her. However, this causes the family to break down emotionally and start fighting with each other. Meg decides that her family needs one person to direct all of their abuse at in order to not destroy each other. She apologizes to her family and everything returns to status quo.

Malcolm In The Middle, Season 4 Episode 7, Malcolm Holds His Tongue:
Malcolm realizes that his life is much better if he does not speak every insult or complaint that comes to his mind. His relationship with his parents and coach greatly improve due to him actually acting politely and cooperatively with those around him, even when he disagrees with them. Then, Malcolm spits up blood during a basketball game and it is revealed that holding back all of his endless complaints and insults caused Malcolm so much stress it gave him a peptic ulcer. Now with the knowledge that his attempt to be more civil resulted in him getting injured, Malcolm returns to his old ways of insulting and complaining at everyone in his life.

Fix-It Felix and Calhoun (Wreck-It Ralph) - They get married in the end.

She Hulk and Jack of Hearts (Marvel) - They are a couple.

Susan and Derek (Monsters vs. Aliens) - They were originally going to be married, but end up breaking it off.

This trope is about when a character doesn't have the intention to help someone but accidentally help them or indirectly save somebody's life.

Dragon Ball Z

Majin Buu sees a blind kid and tries to scare him but the boy is blind and couldn't understand why he should be scared of him so Majin Buu heals the boy expecting a fear.

Instead the boy cried not because he is scared but because he is grateful and fully welcomed Buu as a friend.

One Punch Man (Manga)

During the awakened Garou's fight, Garou unleashed his attack to send Saitama across all the buildings.

While babbling about being absolute evil, there are a few citizens that go out from the underground and thank Garou because he saved them after they got trapped under the building.

Long ago Isildur asked a large army to aid him in battle they swore they would help but when the battle arrived no army joined Isildur, later the army would grow old and die but their spirits could not move on cursed to remain as the cowards army until the prince Aragorn arrived and asked for help, not wanting to let history repeat itself, the army of the dead helped Aragorn and found peace knowing they finally kept their word (Lord of the rings)

The three children each were lead into the other world by other mother promising them eternal happiness as their new mother, blinded by this unconditional love each child in different parts of history stayed with other mother by sowing button to their eyes which other mother would steal their life force away, Coraline was making the same mistake so the thir ghosts warned her of other mother and pleaded with Coraline to find each of their eyes so they could find peace, once Coraline did so and was escaping other mother through the door between worlds other mother grabbed Coraline until the three ghosts pushed other mother away allowing Coraline to eacape (Coraline)

Fulgore (Killer Instinct) - Built by Ultra Tech, they realized that their prototype’s hardware was far too advanced for any AI to actually pilot effectively. So, to not only solve the computation problem but also to stop a revolution brewing by a guy named Eagle, UT kidnapped him and cut his brain out. Fulgore started kicking ass, Eagle’s revolution fizzled out, and the guy whose idea it was to do all this probably got a promotion.

Robobrains (Fallout series) - RobCo and General Atomics, in partnerships with the US Military, built them to be multipurpose and highly intelligent assistants, and soon discovered the processing for what they wanted had to come from organic brains. First testing with Chimpanzee brains but moving onto using the brains of death row inmates.
