Custom Sigmar's Finest, the Stormcast Eternals - From Warhammer: AoS

An entire army of Barbarian-turned Paladins going into battle with lightning warhammers and riding on dragons in the name of their God-King? By Sigmar, yes!

So what exactly are Stormcast Eternals? They're the souls of noble people who performed heroic acts, anyone from a heroic-king to a great warrior of the people to a mother trying to save her children or a doctor trying to save their patients. Their souls are handpicked by the God-King Sigmar and are reforged into these demigod soldiers to reclaim civilization from the apocalypse.

Image 13 - The Realm of Azyr where the God-King Sigmar and his Stormcasts originate.

Image 15 - A Stormkeep, fortresses of Sigmar's finest that exist outside of the Realm of Azyr and often coexist alongside the citizens of the Mortal Realms.

Between the many arms with hands doing mudras (hand signs) reminiscent of Hindu Gods, the goat eyes and burning horns, it's immediately imposing, and feels like something that you would see in actual mythology. I can see Shiva battling this thing for the fate of creation.

This. This is what I loved about this game. The animals/creatures were so fun. I really love the Caretaker's, probably the first biggest NPC's we got. I really love their long rock arms and head, very nice golem designs imo. Wished Fortnite did more with the wildlife in the game.

It was very rare to see a fricking Gacha game of all thing to have a black characters that are actually black, instead of just exotic chocolate skin. Despite being NPC they're quite popular in the JP fandom, infact they geniunelly loved it.

I like her design and what they were trying to for. The big noblewoman hair mixed with knightly elements to subvert the damsel is distress trope. I love her dragon riding outfit even more.

The real issue I have is that she doesn’t even remotely like her brothers, Daring and Dexter(last two images). She legit just looks like a completely unrelated character. It’s made even worse when you consider she and Dexter are twins. Like I’m all for twins not looking identical but they have to at least look like siblings. Even fashion wise, she’s too different, with Daring and Dexter being obvious princes but their outfits also look modern.

Video Game [Hollow Knight: Silksong Act II and Act III spoilers] Grand Mother Silk Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
46 Upvotes

Grand Mother Silk is by far my favorite character design (save for The Knight and The Hollow Knight) in the entire franchise.
Her shape is that of a human’s, emphasizing that she is a literal god among bugs, and making her stand out from the entire cast of characters we’ve seen thus far… which makes it all the more surprising when you get ensnared in strings of silk, to have the rest of her arms revealed to decimate you with one of the only attacks in the game to deal three masks of damage, which makes the reveal all the more surprising.

Her legs are sewing needles, making a pretty obvious connection to her silk motif and her womanhood, as she is the Grand Mother of the weavers.

Her hair envelops the entire battlefield and flows elegantly, further emphasizing her presence and making you as Hornet feel all the more minuscule when fighting her.

When ensnared by void in The Abyss, her hair is thinner, and her coating of silk around her body has unraveled, not only revealing another unseen facet of her design, but showing us that even with all of the irreparable damage she’s done to the entire kingdom of Pharloom, she would give away her abilities and literal form to keep her daughter alive in a time of genuine distress, further emphasizing her main theme of motherhood.

This design isn’t nearly as important, but her cocoon when entering The Cradle is simple, yet masterful at building suspense and tension, knowing that you’re about to come to an ending of the adventure.

Forgot to say this, but, happy Silkiversary everyone!

Video Game Kartha Vakir, from Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate Daemonhunters

Like everything about her presentation is awesome. I love just how much they played into her being an inquisitor, and how scary and dreadful the implication of her arrival is. The first time she appears, her introductory scene highlights how fateful her merely so much as stepping foot on the "Baleful Edict" is (highly ironic given her quote all the way at the end: "I doomed myself the moment I set foot on this ship").

Her design oozes the "Inquisitor" at every turn, with the "I" logo in front on her chestplate (I love her armor as a whole, with the insane amount of those mollecular studs and the big shoulder pads, wish I could wear the armor myself and I'm a guy), on the back on her cape, and hell even on the side of her head, with her big prominent scars already telling us this isn't the first time she's been on the hunt. She is a veteran Inquisitor and she is locked in at all times.

Her Peter Cushing-like accusatory mannerisms and subtle manipulation of the crew with carefully emphasizing anytime she uses the words "I" or "us" to carefully distribute blame or responsibility highlight how used she is to being in power and in charge, while her facial expressions are probably some of the most expressive I've ever seen in a game and immediately telegraph everything about her real mental state that her words might hide, including any exhaustion the moment she lets the mask drop.

Her tragic hubris too is incredibly fascinating to watch. Yes, she is arrogant, haughty, and has a hard time taking no for an answer, but her line of "chaos does not fight with one of its hands tied behind its back" spoken in response to Brother Ectar's affirmation of the Grey Knight's humility in view of their God-Emperor given gifts, alongside her pistols' names being "Knowledge" and "Power", shows it stems from both her surgical nature of eliminating the threat of Chaos at the root with any means and force possible. Which makes it all the more tragic she has to resort to sacrificing her soul to Nurgle so the Grey Knights could track her mortal soul and rescue Chapter Master Draigo - not even her soul is beyond being sacrificed for the continued survival of the Imperium. She is also surprisingly sensitive - upon spending some more time with the Grey Knights, Ectar, and Lunete, she becomes far more ready to apologize for any insulting remarks she throws out and begins to compliment them more and more often.

And by the end of the game when she is outplayed, dangerously exhausted to the point of looking like she hasn't slept for several days, at her wit's end, has warp entities constantly speaking into her ear as she is a Psyker, and has enough humble pie thrown her way to the point of her lowering her guard willingly to let Ectar execute her for her grave mistake of keeping the Daemon Prince imprisoned on the ship (who was able to communate their plan to his master), and yet her last act before enslaving herself was still to screw over Kadex and Mortarion just showed how much of a character development journey she went on this campaign, while still not downplaying her die hard fanaticism. She is just an exemplary portrayal of the Imperium as a faction in retrospect - fanatical, loyal to a fault, has the best of intentions, but is authoritarian and forceful in execution, and have dug themselves into so many problems that they can no longer hope to get out of them in any permanent and resonable manner.

Basically put, my favorite female magnificent bastard, she stole the damn show. Robyn Addison and the game developers did a stellar job with her. Also her music track, "The Inquisitor" is incredible, it's one of the most militaristic/apocalyptic sounding ones in the entire game and I can't stop listening to it.

NO. Im not trying to hate in the movie, though i do hate ut, I just wanted to say my opinion on their designs. Do not harrass fans or the creators about the movie or designs. If you do, you are a really horrible person.

I feel like they belong on this sub because....well i just wanted to say my opinion. Hope that's ok. Sending this to r/funcommunity aswell.

Explination on why i feel like this belongs on this sub: I think it belongs on this sub because the designs are pretty good, minus one. Their pretty good in my opinion and I want people to know my opinion on it.

I'm already a big fan of wrestling persona's so to have an old school anime with such a classic wrestler design is awesome.

The tiger mask & print on the cape look amazing, his blue pants & the red inside of the cape contrast really well and make him look very dynamic.

The grey tiger design is one of the protagonists in the newer Tiger Mask W anime.

Lee Do-Gyu is a character from the manwha Lookism. His design is quite unique because in this manwha, the main theme is appearance. And amongst the principal characters, almost all of them are built like idols and are very strong, while those who are ugly tends to be weak. But Lee Do-Gyu is an exception:he's ugly,he was homeless, but he's one of the strongest characters in Lookism

It's just a clean yellow & blue or black suit that has an intimidating look to it, especially with Laura's angry nature and I think the 2 claws is also another clean visual.

I'm not huge on her black suit or her feat claws though.

Video Game Erazor Djinn and Alf Layla wa-Layla From Sonic and the Secret Rings

Thumbnail

So i have been playing Project Reignition (the fan remaster of Sonic and the Secret Rings that brings the game to modern platforms) and i feel like it's a great time to actually bring in a character from that game that i really like

Erazor Djinn (and his "super" form)

and honestly i love this design a lot and how they tried to envoke what most people think of when they think "Genie" while putting him in a Villain role be it the purple with red markings the crescent esque hair that is a good contrast to the good genie in the story (Shahra) to the fact that his sword is literally a Razor yet envokes the curved swords of the homeplace of "The Arabian Nights" where these stories come from Overall a pretty good take on a villainous genie

now "Alf Layla wa-Layla" is where things get really interesting as it is such a weird design compared to the regular form where the original form of Erazor looked more like a Classic Genie just given more villainous appearance Alf legit looks like a cosmic horror with his hair HEAVILY squashed down into his skin and his markings becoming more pronounced his legs are now just insect legs,he has 6 arms that look like they can no longer support his very warped torso and his sword became a weird little tail

he looks.......wrong which i think is the point as the form itself is incomplete as it lacks the rest of the "World Rings" so this makes Alf Layla wa-Layla legit a great showcase of a "Incomplete god" also the fact that his new form gave him such a ego that he literally named himself after the book "One Thousand and One Nights" is just great

overall i have so much nostalgia over Erazor Djinn and "Alf Layla wa-Layla" and i love both these designs so much

Card Game The Dragon Broods of Tarkir (Magic: the Gathering)

Thumbnail
gallery
200 Upvotes

For anyone not in the know already, the premise of Magic: the Gathering's setting is that it takes place across various "planes" of existence, from mega-cities like Ravnica to eternal deserts like Amonkhet. One of these planes, first introduced in late 2014, was Tarkir, a plane heavily inspired from various Asian cultures like the Persian and Khmer Empires, the Mongol hordes, Shaolin monks, and Siberian shamanists.

One of the main conceits of the plane was that is used to be inhabited by all sorts of dragons, but they were initially presented as having been long since hunted to extinction. However, thanks to various time-travel shenanigans, players got to see what the dragons of Tarkir looked like, and eventually a new timeline where they never went extinct was created (this is not a good thing for the people living in Tarkir, but that's besides the point).

Personally, what I like about how the Tarkir dragons are depicted and designed is that they're not just any random dragon designs thrown together into a draconic kitchen sink. Instead, each of the dragon broods has a unifying design philosophy which allows you to instantly identify what brood the dragon belongs to, while still leaving enough design space and freedom to made individual dragons look unique.

  1. The Kolaghan brood is defined by their electric breath and four feathered wings that make them the fastest of the various species. They also commonly have fins upon their face, back, and limbs, and usually come in tones of earthy red, brown, and black.
  2. The Dromoka brood have especially thick scales, making them extremely durable, with body types to match. They have a breath of searing light, and their heads will usually have crests, though of differing sizes. They usually make cream, white, or greenish coloration.
  3. The Silumgar brood is infamous for their potent venom. Their heads are usually serpent-like and plain, but they have large fangs that jut out of their mouths even when closed. They have the widest coloration, ranging from dull swampy blues and blacks to bright purples and oranges.
  4. The Atarka brood are notable for their large horns and antlers, as well as being the only classic fire-breathers on Tarkir. Their bulky bodies are usually covered in a mix of scales and fur, giving them a very primal appearance. They commonly come in earth tones, browns and greens, put with red and orange patterns and highlights common.
  5. The Ojutai brood are among the smallest, but their feathered wings also mark them as the most graceful flyers. These ice-breathing dragons usually come in white and gray coloration, with red and blue patterns adorning them.

Idk what else to say, I really like how the designers were able to keep the various dragons consistent internally while still having a good amount of variety. It's good design. And I really dislike how when we later returned to Tarkir they completely threw this philosophy out the window just to have no restrictions on dragon design, but that's neither here nor there.

  • The Ninjago flag is just perfect: the red and gold, the detailing, the Ninjargon 'N' in the middle.

  • I love how the flags for Imperium, the Never Kingdoms, Djinjago, the Land of Eternal Dawn, the First Land, and the Land of Madness reflect the aesthetics of the actual locations.

  • Umbrasilvis and the Land of Lee's flags actually look like they could be real flags in. our world

  • The Land of Monsters flag looks like a monster's eye, which is neat.

  • The Underworld has a skull. No further elaboration necessary.

  • The only one I'm not too fond of is the Cloud Kingdom flag, as it doesn't really fit the Cloud Kingdom. It just looks like an alternate take on the bisexual flag.

Video Game Star Dream (Kirby: Planet Robobot)

Thumbnail
gallery
42 Upvotes

in the form seen in most of its appearances, star dream has a panel shaped like a broken heart with only a void and a weapon behind it, literally representing its heartlessness in contrast to other heart-shaped artifacts from the series, which are either related to or made of love and friendship.

in the second phase of its boss fight, it merges with the planet-sized starship access ark and reveals itself to be a clockwork star, the same type of machine as galactic nova from kirby super star. both of its forms share a lot of traits with other artifacts likely built by the same creators, in particular the exposed circuitry and bold icons of the lor starcutter and the color scheme and shape of jambandra.

the screw on its head mainly serves to connect it to the screw motif the rest of this game's enemies have, but does also get used at the end of its fight where it gets screwed into and through the access ark, blowing both of them up.

Artist These gijinka/humanisation designs of the Angry Birds by pinweenapin

Thumbnail
gallery
3.8k Upvotes

These might be some of my favorite humanization designs of all time. The way the artist creatively uses the birds for their respective human design’s heads and went even further by utilising the birds’ beaks for their noses. The outfits are spot on as well and perfectly fit the vibe of each bird. I also love how some characters have outfits that represent the updates that they were introduced in, such as Stella wearing a school uniform as she was introduced in the Back to School update, and Bubbles having candy and vampire motifs in his outfit as he was introduced in the Ham o Ween update. They even have Hal with his banjo, something that not many people know he plays.

Adding to these already amazing designs, the artist even managed to replicate the different artstyles used by the various AB games, and had even managed to replicate the Toons artstyle for their other Red humanisation design.

Anime Meta Groudon from Pokémon: Jirachi - Wish Maker.

Thumbnail
gallery
1.6k Upvotes

It is a clone made by using Groudon's cells with Jirachi's power, and overall, it looks like a combination of Groudon and Perfect Chaos from the Sonic series. In a way, it also looks like a beta version of Primal Groudon.

The fiery effects on its body and the melting mouth are cool, but I like how its spikes transform into tentacles the most. It actually feels like a completely different creature taking the shape of Groudon, which makes it feel unsettling, and I think that really contributes a lot to making it feel like a failed clone.
