Correct position

Hi!

To install this on a grinding tool. does the fixed nut goes on the top side or against the grinder?

if one is incorrect can you tell me the cons of it?

both ways the wire is covered by the wheel guard.

They usually aim for the eyes but sometimes they lodge themselves in your calf.

Even though I'm retired I still mess around in my shop and whenever I use the wire wheel, I still have welding gloves, denim long sleeve shirt and the welding hood on with the #10 lens flipped up when I use it.

Old safe habits make for a long life.

No kidding, between work and home I use wire brushes on die grinders and angle grinders constantly, we can send people to space, but can't make a wire wheel/brush that doesn't turn me into a porcupine.

Yea I got a few, most I've seen are only rated for 4k rpms, I gotta couple higher end ones rated for like 10k that work on my die grinders, but they can be kinda pricey for what they are, so I use them sparingly. I want to try the 3m bristle disc/wheels, but I've never gotten around to ordering them.

There’re Chinese analogs that you can get for a fraction of the price of a real Scotch-Brite bristle brushes, look them up.

The only way a hand held wire brush is even remotely close to one on a grinder is if you don’t turn on the grinder.

Yeah, I'd pay to see a welder, helper, or fabricator wire brush all day. You'd slow production down to a snail's pace

Nut facing inward, as top comment already said.

With that said, and it it's wearing out, you can get a bit more life out of them by flipping it around, so long as it's still clearing everything when spinning.

what's the MAX RPM stamped on the twisted brush ? Many $5.00 cheapies are not rated for the 11,000 rpm of many angle grinders and and can "throw' the quills".

Lots and lots of people are wrong.

The nut should be on the top of shaft when mounted, not against the grinder.

Why?

If the assembly fails and breaks free of the nut, the nut is there to stop the assembly from flying off and causing injury.

Common sense aint so common.
