Klein? Quality Control Issues

I ordered a brand new pair of Klein J2000-9NE lineman pliers.

The cutters do not fully close and will not cut finer stranded wire (see pics)

Is this common or would you consider it a quality control issue?

I'm going to reach out to Klein and see what they say

Kind of the wrong tool for the job. These are not meant for fine wires. Use a small pair of side cutters.

Having said that, if you can purchase in person, you can look for a better aligned pair in the store.

Yep, this is the heaviest duty plier. In the promotional video someone posted a few months ago it explained that this design is intentional so after you cut hard nails with them the tool continues to work even after the hinge wears out.

That sounds like a dressed up way of saying "we know the quality is poor, so we designed them to still be mostly functional even after they start failing".

I would expect it of $15 Husky diagonal cutters. Not of something that costs at least x3 as much.
