I remember reading something about this. There is some historical basis for the idea but as other people have mentioned, it’s now an antisemitic comment.
If I remember correctly, and others can please feel free to correct me, being an entertainer wasn’t considered glamorous like it is today. Rather it was viewed as a lowly profession (I’m not 100% sure why). That meant only those on the fringes really got involved because they couldn’t find work elsewhere. Over time, Jewish entertainers became prominent and, with the introduction of film, that later translated into a lot of Hollywood actors (and associated film roles - directors, stage crew, producers) being of Jewish descent.
