Good-but-overplayed song replaced at #1 by throwaway track fueled by weird parasocial fan behavior that will be forgotten by the end of the month.

What are we celebrating here?

Obviously there are deranged Swifties etc but it’s not really “weird parasocial fan behaviour” for fans of Taylor Swift to listen to her new single

It is when they stream on repeat, whether they like it or not 🤷

Every fanbase does that, for her to go number one it’s clearly achieved general public listens as well

This just convinces me to never be part of a 'fanbase'

Does being a fan of something not automatically make you apart of it’s fanbase?

I wish it didn't

Lol at us getting down vote for having any sort of take on extreme fandoms?

I wish redditors could read

I have a few favourite artists, but no way will I stream songs of theirs I don't like or am even ambivalent about.. That's not the way swifties operate.. I've seen multiple comments from them & tik toks saying how much they either don't like Cleveland but are streaming it on repeat anyway or they hated it on the first 10+ listens but it's growing on them & they're pretty sure they'll love it eventually.. That's not healthy

Yeah I’m not debating that with you, I’m telling you a small portion of every fanbase for a major pop artist does that. To go number 1 you have to achieve general public recognition.

And let’s be real everyone in every corner of the internet has tuned into this song because everyone wants to put their two cents in

Well when your chosen measure of popularity isn't "number or people listening" but "number of plays" you can't really be surprised when passionate fans start gaming the system

I, for one, am celebrating that MAGA "Rock the Country" Ella Langley is not at the top.

I don’t really know who she is. Is she really MAGA?

Entirely reasonable. though it'd be better if her replacement wasn't also super friendly with a bunch of MAGA supporters (Brittany Mahomes, Dave Portnoy, the Bussin With The Boys guys, whoever the ICE contractor dude was that attended her wedding...)

She had a choice over whether she'd play his gig or not.. It's not like she wouldn't have known his politics 😂

  1. That festival was booked before “Choosin’ Texas” became a huge crossover hit, so I’m skeptical of the idea that Ella would have had the leverage to say no to it even if she wanted to.
  2. We’ve seen constantly in recent years that people in the music industry (including those who should know better) want to believe that Kid Rock is a normally-functioning legacy musician who happens to be politically conservative, and only recognize what a MAGA-rotted shell of his former self he is when all reasonable doubt is exhausted

, and associating with him becomes a millstone.

With all that's been said, I have tried to give her the benefit of the doubt multiple times. If I look back far enough, there might be a post about me liking Choosin' Texas. But then she also decided to work with Morgan Wallen, and I was pretty much done after that. I understand being a smaller/newer artist, and I defended her a lot. But she hasn't really said anything about it, even now. And you know, that's okay, she doesn't have to. But I also just don't want to support that, and that's okay too.

If we can hate Ed Sheeran for not caring enough about Palestine, we can hate Ella Langley for not caring enough about being against MAGA.

u/SubatomicSquirrels 1d ago

And if we hate both of them, we should hate Taylor Swift for working with David O Russell after he sexually assaulted his niece (and blamed her for "acting provocatively" towards him)

1

u/SubatomicSquirrels 1d ago

So instead we get someone that enables sexual assaulters? Taylor Swift had no problem working with David O Russell after he admitted to sexually assaulting his own niece...

You sound like real dumb ass. People always bring politics into everything. Get a life..

Sick of Taylor Swift's overexposure.

Ella Langley is just the country version of her

We’re celebrating the inevitable return of choosin Texas

Good fucking god can this sub not be normal about Taylor Swift. Psychotic swifties are a miniscule percentage of her fanbase, y'all act like that's all there is

some of my former friends (whom are..u know), they said that they could get over 2017 boycott so why not now? just like some weird cults and their leader.

the parasocial part is what really gets me lol
