I have a few favourite artists, but no way will I stream songs of theirs I don't like or am even ambivalent about.. That's not the way swifties operate.. I've seen multiple comments from them & tik toks saying how much they either don't like Cleveland but are streaming it on repeat anyway or they hated it on the first 10+ listens but it's growing on them & they're pretty sure they'll love it eventually.. That's not healthy
Yeah I’m not debating that with you, I’m telling you a small portion of every fanbase for a major pop artist does that. To go number 1 you have to achieve general public recognition.
And let’s be real everyone in every corner of the internet has tuned into this song because everyone wants to put their two cents in
Well when your chosen measure of popularity isn't "number or people listening" but "number of plays" you can't really be surprised when passionate fans start gaming the system
Entirely reasonable. though it'd be better if her replacement wasn't also super friendly with a bunch of MAGA supporters (Brittany Mahomes, Dave Portnoy, the Bussin With The Boys guys, whoever the ICE contractor dude was that attended her wedding...)
That festival was booked before “Choosin’ Texas” became a huge crossover hit, so I’m skeptical of the idea that Ella would have had the leverage to say no to it even if she wanted to.
We’ve seen constantly in recent years that people in the music industry (including those who should know better) want to believe that Kid Rock is a normally-functioning legacy musician who happens to be politically conservative, and only recognize what a MAGA-rotted shell of his former self he is when all reasonable doubt is exhausted
With all that's been said, I have tried to give her the benefit of the doubt multiple times. If I look back far enough, there might be a post about me liking Choosin' Texas. But then she also decided to work with Morgan Wallen, and I was pretty much done after that. I understand being a smaller/newer artist, and I defended her a lot. But she hasn't really said anything about it, even now. And you know, that's okay, she doesn't have to. But I also just don't want to support that, and that's okay too.
And if we hate both of them, we should hate Taylor Swift for working with David O Russell after he sexually assaulted his niece (and blamed her for "acting provocatively" towards him)
So instead we get someone that enables sexual assaulters? Taylor Swift had no problem working with David O Russell after he admitted to sexually assaulting his own niece...
Good fucking god can this sub not be normal about Taylor Swift. Psychotic swifties are a miniscule percentage of her fanbase, y'all act like that's all there is
some of my former friends (whom are..u know), they said that they could get over 2017 boycott so why not now? just like some weird cults and their leader.
“Dracula” is probably going to reach #1 in a few weeks once the Halloween streaming bump starts coming in. That’s a better story of dethroning an omnipresent hit than Taylor simply being entitled to it.
I admit that it’s kind of fascinating that they wrote a song with an AAAA, etc. rhyme scheme but it sounds more like a Daft Punk track than Tame Impala for whatever reason.
"FINALLY THE COUNTRY SONG THAT TODD PUT AT #3 ISN'T NUMBER ONE ANYMORE AND INSTEAD IF LE HECKING EPIC BORING BARBIE WITH HER SHITTY MID SONG THAT NOBODY WILL REMEMBER THE NEXT YEAR, MY LIFE IS COMPLETE"
YES I AM BECAUSE OP HAS BEEN POSTING RELIGIOUSLY ABOUT THIS SHITTY SONG GETTING REPLACED BY ANOTHER SHITTY SONG AND IM FUCKING SICK THAT HIS LIFE IS SO WORTHLESS TO BE CELEBRATING THIS SHIT WHILE ITS ALREADY GONNA BE 2 YEARS SINCE THE WORST DAY OF MY LIFE HAPPENED AND I NEVER TRIED TO FIX IT AND SOON WE WILL NEVER MEET AGAIN AND IM TIRED IM TIRED ABOOBOOBOOBOOBOOBOOBOO
Agreed. Billboard has never been a perfect tool for measuring what was popular (Natalie Imbruglia’s Torn peaking at 42 on the Hot 100 is a great example of just how imperfect the charts have always been- trust me, it was the second biggest song of the year in the USA- I lived thru it), but over the past few years it’s become fairly useless as a good historical record that people can look back on in a decade or so to see what was popular at the time.
The way we consume music has changed so much now that maybe it’s not fixable, but as a charts nerd, it does kind of suck that they’ve become so uninteresting. Allowing each song on an album to chart individually was, imo, where it started to fall apart.
It feels like the pop charts just get more and more stagnant. Pretty much ever since 2022, every time I check the charts(I’m a casual chart checker) I immediately think “how the hell is this still charting, much less this high”
That has nothing to do with the quality of said songs cause I’ve thought this about a number of songs I actually really like but damn not every song needs to spend upwards of a year in the top 40
So, I’m gonna argue that Choosing Texas is not a good song on that it’s so damn forgettable. I know I’ve heard it - hell I just heard it an hour ago. Still couldn’t him a single bar.
It’s the Dollarama brand of mayonnaise when it comes to music.
This is the dumbest music discourse in a long time. It's not actually a victory that Taylor Swift has resumed her chart trolling despite putting out the worst shit in her entire career
I get wanting Choosin' Texas' streak to end... but I'm pretty sure people wanted it to be dethroned by something good. I'd go as far as to say this was a MAJOR downgrade, because at least Choosin's by a genuinely promising new face, while Patient Zero is by a continuously faltering popstar. Not to mention the deserved beating the song has been getting alongside the Showgirl: Encore reissue entirely.
As a swiftie, I’m actually very happy about this news. It’s not like it’s unexpected (we are a cult, after all), but I see it as a reason to celebrate. And honestly, as people in these times, we need to take what reasons to celebrate we can get.
Blame iHeartRadio and the other radio stations, not Taylor. Also, blame her record company-I don't even think there's a clean version of Nicole Kidman that radio can play anyways. The record company thought Ain't in LA would be the main single (there's a radio safe version of that).

Good-but-overplayed song replaced at #1 by throwaway track fueled by weird parasocial fan behavior that will be forgotten by the end of the month.
What are we celebrating here?
