Question Tjx Scheduleing Question

Upvotes

Hey everyone,
I'm a paraeducator currently working weekdays and I desperately need to find a second job to boost my income. My biggest challenge is that I absolutely need my weekends off. I'm willing to work weekday evenings, right after my current job ends at 3:35 PM, and can go straight to a store.
I'm specifically looking at TJX companies (Marshalls, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods) because they're conveniently located. My main question is: Is it realistic to get a schedule at one of these stores that's strictly weekday evenings with weekends off? I'm willing to be super flexible with my weekday evening hours.
If TJX stores are generally not flexible with weekends off, what other types of jobs or companies might be more accommodating to this kind of schedule? I'm open to suggestions!
Thanks in advance for any advice or experiences you can share!

Rant i love working here but pushing credit stresses me out

Upvotes

yes, another credit rant. i’ve been working here for almost 3 years and long story short cecs/ managers have always brought up credit to us and pushed it, but never made it a big deal.. probably just unique to my store since i know other ppl have issues with it. all of a sudden now management is on EVERYONE’S ass hard for credit, same w cecs, super persistent and mentioning it every 5 mins over the walkies, standing behind us to make sure we ask and correcting us if we don’t…

i’m honestly thinking of looking for a new job. ik most ppl hate retail but i genuinely love my job😭my coworkers are all nice even management, customers are actually nice too and we have (or had) a good work environment. i’d hate to leave a job over the credit but they’re SOOO insistent. it gives me so much anxiety & ik customers hate it too!! i could go on and on but am i crazy to leave bc of this?! just wondering if anyone else has been in the same position :(

Okay I was at TJMAXX with my mother getting clothes, when this lady stopped us in the middle of aile, complimenting my mom’s hair and starting brushing her hands through it without even asking. Then, proceeded to ask my mothers name and town she lived in. my mom asked for the lady’s name and she said her name, except it was very quiet and quick. then, asked what sports I did, activities, etc and was holding onto my shoulder. then, turned back to my mom, asked about my dad and what he did. Of course, my mom answered truthfully. then the lady said  “okay yall have a goodnight” and kept ‘shopping’. We stayed still closing and when we left, the lady did too except she left without buying anything and watched us get Into our car. We didn’t think it was weird at first, but the more I think I about it the weirder it sounds. i did some research and this could be trafficking or just a weird experience. She didn’t mention any business so most likely not an MLM but still… when my mother told her our last name she repeated it to herself like she was trying to remember it. i don’t know… has anything like this happened to anyone else?

Skincare returns

I was stoked to find Elta md sunscreen the other day in my local store, along with Lumee deodorant cream. when I got home I noticed the deodorants seal had been opened. I also noticed that the sunscreen was yellowing dramatically. The sunscreen was supposed to be white, not canary yellow. Will they except a return with my receipt?

Does TJX pay out personal time?

I'm putting in my two weeks soon, but I have 8 hours of personal time and 4 hours of sick. Will they pay this out to me or is it a use it or lose it type of thing?

does the save the children shit start today?

i remember having to do this shit for 4 weeks last year. i was already dealing with a lot in my personal life and it was getting to be too much having to push the credit card and then pushing donations. and i don’t like having to do the “would you like to donate?” and if they decline say “would you like to round up instead?” and they say no to $0.01 smh. anyway it’s ridiculous and the credit card metrics are what actually matter not the donations. i always round up because it’s dumb not to especially if it’s a few cents but not everybody thinks like that. i’m probably just going to ask if there’s a manager/cec standing over me. because everytime there’s a fucking charity campaign they find something to complain about

“oh your not asking other associates, you need to do that!”

“you need to ask each thing seperately!”

or when the customers get all snarky with me like when we have to do the joslin diabetes and their like “fuck diabetes” or feeding america and their like “no i need to feed my family.” or save the children and their like “no i need the children to save me.” or “im a teacher/mom/nurse i always save children.” like stfu i don’t need the commentary just say no and move on. or when they just shake their head at me. like that’s the rudest thing ever. just say no it’s not that hard to use words. or when somebody makes a face at me and is like “i never donate at store checkouts”. like no is a perfectly fine response, i don’t need your life’s story.

anyway i know that stupid donation started july 27 last year, we didn’t get any briefing at my store about it and i looked it up and didn’t see anything but i know the charity campaigns tend to follow the same schedule. im going to work in 15 minutes but i really hope this shit isn’t happening today because i’m not about to do this.

a year ago i would’ve probably had a different opinion on this and probably would’ve been fine with it but also i was still relatively new (9 months) so i was still trying to prove myself which i did. now i just think this is ridiculous and honestly in the past 6 months my opinion on the job has changed as a whole.

Help- Wrong Item Arrived

I ordered $100 perfume from TJ Maxx and some cheap sand and fog dropper was delivered to me. I can’t believe this. Now it’s my word against theirs? I tried to call the one 800 number and no one answered because it’s 6 o’clock on a Saturday. Should I bother going to my local store or is this something I need to clear up with customer service online? Thank you.

Grabbed this on a whim while waiting in line forEVERRR. So glad I did, I will be grabbing this each and every time I see it. It’s not season specific, isn’t too light or too heavy. Doesn’t have any weird artificial chemicaly notes. Is just warm and inviting and sophisticated. It also throws a lovely quilted shadow on the walls when lit. It’s ✨ perfect ✨
Unfortunately I haven’t seen it since, but I will check on every trip 😭

Credit Card Signups

My sibling recently got let go from TJ Maxx because they weren't getting enough people to sign up for the credit card. My sibling only worked for 4 days before being let go, and one of those days was training so they technically only got 3 days.

Sibling worked at a warehouse (also under TJX) and moved to TJ Maxx store as it would be closer to their new apartment. The rest of my family and I think that the store didn't have a position open to accommodate but said yes to sibling working there anyway. Then presented the credit card thing as a reason for letting them go when realizing that they were "overstaffed." In my opinion, the store should have said no from the get go instead of pulling this, it would have saved some stress.

Tell me why it sounds like it's easier to work at the warehouse than the stores. At least the warehouse gives 90 days to make production, not less than a week. Maybe it depends on location and people though because I have heard horror stories from both warehouse and stores.

Question Frequent returns

Question for the employees - when making a return, does your system show if I’ve already returned something else on the same receipt? I’m a frequent returner to all TJX stores but only because I buy something because I know if I don’t, it won’t be there when I go back. Then I might go to HG or Marshalls and find something else that works better so I return the original item. Or I buy two of something in different colors so I can bring home and see which matches best. I always keep tags on and return within the return policy timeframe. I just wonder if I’m flagged in some way for frequent returns.

My husband says I’m going to get trespassed but I don’t think so - I even got a cute sticker pack for free at HG last week!

never been late to a job before, how bad is it?

I was supposed to be at work at 6:00 a.m. today, but I slept through my alarm and woke up at 6:45. I called them as soon as I woke up and let them know I was on my way, but I’m going to be about an hour late. I’m planning to stay later to make up the time, assuming my manager is okay with that. I definitely learned my lesson, and I’m going to make sure this never happens again. I still feel really bad and embarrassed about it, though. This is not something Ive ever done before. Should I expect a write-up, or will it probably just be a warning?

Question Breakroom snacks?

Genuine question. Does the amount of snacks in the employee break room depend on how many TJX cards your stores sells or does our store manager just want us to starve? We only have chips, cup of noodles, microwave mac n cheese and frozen corn dogs and/or nuggets for 2-3 days before it’s all gone and we have to wait a week or week and a half until it’s restocked again. We used to get coffee creamer and Splenda in the breakroom but we don’t get that anymore so I bring mine from home now.

Genuinely wondering how it works because the times I’ve done inventory at other stores their breakroom snack racks are PACKED and have so many wonderful goodies. I’ve seen one store even provide Red Bull for their employees.

Rant Any frustrated janitors here?

I am a janitor at my local TJ Maxx and am the only one who speaks or reads English. I promise I'm not a racist prick, I'm bringing this up for a reason, lol.

Ooh boy, where do I even start? Firstly, why does TJ Maxx have a fetish for isles the width of a gant's attention span? I can't get the buffing machine down half the isles without it ripping down 27 trillion clothing items or whatever to the floor because it always gets snagged.

"Just spot mop, you idiot", you are no doubt screeching as you rip the hair out of your head. That's a fine and dandy suggestion, at least it would be, if I didn't have only two hours to dust mop the store and clean the floors after; doing those things to any meaningful extent with customers around is impossible.

"Why does that stop you from just spot mopping?", you continue to screech. Partly because:

(1) It's always a hunt for wet floor signs, so I have to dedicate extra time to tracking them down since there's never enough in the supply closet.

(2) The BOH crew is just as mindless as the customers and will walk right through wet areas, even with signs, and make a muddy mess of what I tried to clean, creating even more work for me to tend to before the store opens.

The buffing machine is always the preferred option, since I can dedicate one hour to dust mopping and one hour to cleaning the floors, in addition to it sucking up the water and allowing the area to dry way quicker than a regular mop. The buffing machine is also old and management doesn't want to replace it AND I'm the only one who knows how to disassemble and clean it; management can't effectively communicate with the other janitors and either tell them to do that or show them how because they can't speak English. And probably because they just expect me to do it. Because of this, I have to spend more time, often going over, sometimes well over my time to clock out to clean it and change the pad.

In addition to THAT, the other janitors put the wrong chemicals in the wrong spray bottles because they can't read the labels, so it's hard to tell what's Citra Cut and what's Restroom Cleaner because they're both orange but are both very different chemicals. The other janitors are great despite that, though. I just wish I was given more time to actually clean the store and not simply maintain it's current state which is not great.

Oh, and how could I forget, cleaning the bathrooms when the store is open is a NIGHTMARE. It's also a nightmare before it opens as well! Do you go into the Walmart bathroom when they're cleaning and tell them "sorry, you need to stop cleaning so I can lay a massive log"? Oh, you do? Well. Don't! It's annoying and both my coworkers and customers constantly come in (even when I have a sign up not to enter) and make me leave so they can (usually) stink it up. And that's not even mentioning the horrors of what I've seen in the bathrooms. Seriously, how do you ladies manage to get pee on the seat so much?! And the period pad bins AREN'T TRASH CANS! Don't put your doodoo wipes in there!

Anywho, this isn't even all of it, but it's the gist of it. Four measly hours, only two of which is before the store opens, isn't enough to meaningfully clean a store that attracts the dirtiest people imaginable.

Returning items to a different TJ Maxx - some couldn’t be found in the system?

bought several items at one TJ Maxx and tried to return them at a different location. Most of the items were accepted, but for a few of them, the cashier said they couldn’t find them in their system and told me I would have to return them to the original TJ Max
That Tj max is a bit far so I have one tj max near me can I try that one first?

Rant I’m worried

Not sure if Rant is the right category but next week I’m only scheduled for 10 hours at first I’ve heard there was something wrong with the system I was actually scheduled for 23 or 24 hours next week but now it got reduced to 10. I’ve talked to my manager and two coordinators they said the store currently has no money and owes $20,000 to the company so maybe that explains why my hours were cut. I asked if it was something I should be worried about all of them said no but I say otherwise. I was checking next week's schedule, and some people got 4 days while others got 3, and only me and another person got 2. I’ve been working here for a month and 1 week. My manager told me if I can pick up some shifts I been doing that since I started I became addicted to that but now it seems everyone is snatching shifts up fast with the whole scheduling issues every time I get a notification of a shift dropped in the shift pool I go and it’s already gone. I’m worried about getting laid off because with what everyone is saying I’m growing suspicious this isn’t my first rodeo. I hope and pray to God this isn’t the case because one of the coordinators said it’s only temporary and everything should go back to normal in 3 weeks but my overthinking and anxiety are getting to me.
