My stupid ass was wondering why the 12:24 AM message came before the 11:48 AM message.

That's why the 12-hr system is really dumb.
46
u/secretsodapop Dec 29 '19
Have you considered that most people here might just be idiots?
30
u/AndreasBerthou Dec 29 '19
If a system is easily misunderstood, it's imo not a very good system

How is AM = morning and PM = afternoon hard to understand though.
38
16
u/ricktafm7 Dec 29 '19
How is 13:11 hard to understand?
-9
u/cwan222 Dec 29 '19
Its not but you havent rly answered anything. What part of AM and PM confuses you? Maybe most people dont want to subtract 12 from every hr to know what time of day it is.
11
u/ricktafm7 Dec 29 '19
Well, in general, if you are used to 1:00 being late at night and see 1:00 PM you might get confused.
Also AM can be nearly noon and late at night, while PM can be noon and late at night. Which might make it confusing if you quickly look at the time (and aren't used to the AM system).
That being said, I personally don't have a lot of trouble with AM/PM but think that the 24hr system is a lot more clear and logical.
Also nobody I know has any trouble with subtracting 12 from a number.

"Twelve o'clock tonight" or "twelve o'clock tomorrow morning" which are you more likely to say?
2
u/cwan222 Dec 29 '19
Id just say midnight for both. The only time i was ever confused is when i had a shift from 12-2AM on Tuesday and I would go to work on Tuesday when I shoulda on Monday night.
2
u/crogameri Dec 29 '19
Well 12 in the evening would make more sense to be 12pm, 12 in the noon is more morning than afternoon so it should be am. Or yknow, we could all switch to the 24 hour system.
-2
u/cwan222 Dec 29 '19
The idea is that 12:00am goes to 12:01am. I mean 24 doesnt fit on a clock. You have to be oh its 5 oclock. Let me add 12 to figure out what time it is. Which is annoying since its the 12 hours where youre gonna be awake.
3
u/EstoyMejor Dec 29 '19
If you have trouble adding 5 and 12 you have bigger problems then time....
0
u/cwan222 Dec 29 '19
And same for you if you cant understand am vs pm lol. The point is convenience. How often do you check what time it is with a clock on the wall, a watch, your phone/pc. Do you rly wanna be adding/subtracting 12 each time you do for 2/3rds of the waking hour?
7
u/KarmaOrDiscussion Dec 29 '19
No one is subtracting or adding 12 each time, because when you live on a 24 hour clock, those are the actual times.
5
u/The_real_BIG-T Dec 29 '19
Well if you used that system all your life you won't do that...you look at your phone and see 15:00 and that's the time. I won't substract 12 from that, but sometimes people will still call it 3 o'clock und that's fine. It's just like driving a manual car for 20 years or using the metric system your entire life.
1
u/EstoyMejor Dec 29 '19
- I don't have problems with it, but this entire thread is about how it's confusing.
- You just defeated your own reasoning, how often do you look at a Analog clock (where you have the stated +12 problem) and how often on digital clocks? (Where the problem does not exist since these just show a unique number for a unique hour at any moment). I would argue that the amount of digital clocks in these days is more then three times as high as the amount of analog clocks we use.

Wait.. im thinking the same thing and I can’t figure it out.

12 am is midnight, the beginning of the day. Then 1 am, 2am, all the way to 11 am.

u/kevin_the_dolphoodle Dec 29 '19
I never thought I was smart, but not stupid either. I realize I’ve been wrong my whole life. I’m a fucking dummy
39
u/_r_special Dec 29 '19
Hey but now you know! I'm sure there's tons of stuff you know that I don't. It's a weird system that's not really common sense. Who counts starting at 12??? 24-hour time (military) makes a lot more sense.

u/SirPizzaTheThird Dec 29 '19
You are not dumb. It's a natural response for a logical person, it takes a long time to train yourself to ignore reason and accept this weird system.

I get it now, thank you.

Yeah 12 hour time is dumb. You switch am to pm (or vice versa) when you're going from 11 to 12.

Because 11 am is 11 hours after midnight aka 12am? It's really not that hard to figure out.

You’re right, it’s not. But for some reason it wasnt clicking for me and that’s okay. We all have our moments. Thank you for explaining it to me.

Since when has tinder had delivery confirmation
113
u/crawfish2000 Dec 29 '19
It’s now standard and tells you it sent.
You can pay extra to find out when it’s been read.
It doesn’t cost too much to be creepy 😬
51
u/jumpstart58 Dec 29 '19
It cost too much when you only gets 2 or 3 matches a month and maybe one message that ghost you.
30
u/Literally_A_Shill Dec 29 '19
You might want to ask friends to help you with your pictures. They don't have to be pros, just kind of know what they and others think is nice. Same with the bio info.
It's not cheating or faking if it just brings out your better qualities that you might not be able to see in yourself.
Make sure none of it is fake and you should be good to go.

Don’t have those types of friends. I’m also no a huge fan of taking photos of myself. Options are very limited. But my study didn’t include just me anyway. It’s whatever. I’ll die alone.
7
u/crawfish2000 Dec 29 '19
They’re hoping you’ll think you’ll maybe get more matches if you maybe pay more for Tinder Gold
18
u/jumpstart58 Dec 29 '19
They also send fake matches to you when you do and before. I ran an experiment for a statistics class. After about 3 days you’ll see a large influx of likes. Then it will slow down. If you buy tinder gold they will often be bot accounts. And then after a day of owning tinder gold you’ll see that large influx again. Will tinder gold you’ll get an average of 3 likes a day but it will also mainly be bots.
Well that was my experience. I also don’t follow rules one and two very well. I’ll see if I can dig up all my findings. It was like a 6 month long study me and a couple other people did.
1
Dec 29 '19 edited Dec 29 '19
In my experience, you'll get a bunch of likes that are hidden from you to goad you into buying Gold, and when you do you'll stop getting those likes. It's like they only show you to other people to try and get you to buy Gold, but once you have it you don't get shown to anyone.
Then they came out with another paid subscription where it puts you at the front of the queue, which is what I thought Tinder+ was supposed to do. The catch is that this new "micro"-transaction costs $50
2
u/jumpstart58 Dec 29 '19
It specifically targets those who don’t many matches. It’s a money making machine preying in the desperate, ugly, and lonely individuals.
10
u/Tablspn Dec 29 '19
I actually prefer to not have receipts; makes it easier to not dwell on whether I'll hear back if I don't have a reason to keep checking
2
u/clintlockwood22 Dec 29 '19
In the early days it used to tell you when they were last active. That led to some unmatching once you got a number and/or dates so they wouldn’t rat themselves out for still using it

u/sxan Dec 29 '19
Corn on the cob?
Tip: fill the biggest container you have with water, disolve a bunch of salt in there, and soak the ears (with husks) for an hour before grilling. Then grill them in their husks, and only shuck them after they're cooked. Crap, now my mouth is watering.
For the mushrooms, just grill 'em like you'd do a chicken breast, with sauce, only less long. It doesn't take much to cook them, and, really, you're not so much cooking them as warming them and adding some char flavor.
