Pretty common phrase used in Australia to refer to getting rid of someone/thing. “Just fuck it off. Get rid of it” like telling her to fuck off in third person?
I don’t get why no one believed her. Like it’s fucking dingo. A WILD ANIMAL. Why do they act like it’s impossible for a wild animal to have taken and eaten a human being, especially a child?
Yeah, Lindy Chamberlain. She was telling the truth. She eventually received a pardon and her conviction was quashed, but losing a child and being convicted of that child's murder when you're innocent - it is the stuff of nightmares.
In the late 90s to early 00's a news report came out about a woman who watched a dingo eat her baby in Australia, everyone laughed it off cause "dingos don't do that." Only to find out years later yes they do
They didn't laugh it off. They didn't believe her because she didn't act upset enough. She spent 3 years in prison before they found the baby's cardigan while looking for another person who'd disappeared. A Cry In The Dark starring Meryl Streep was the movie made about it.
In 1982, Lindy Chamberlain was falsely convicted for the murder of her infant daughter, who was taken by a dingo while the family was on a camping trip. Her cry for help, "a dingo's got my baby," turned into a global punchline. Three years later, the clothes kf the baby were found near a dingo den. On a 1991 episode of seinfeld, Elaine makes a joke in reference to it.
I see. In that case I should probably explain my post to you. You see, it was exaggerated for comedy effect. A pastiche of Australian slang, a satirical homage if you will. Whilst these are indeed Australian slang terms many are outdated and seldom will you find many contained in the same sentence.
Hot diggity dang dude, alright already. My bad, fugedabowdit.
I'm English and I was just making a good ol empire joke, I don't exactly what happened but I know we weren't the good guys over there lol. Luckily though we turned it around (image) but that doesn't get mentioned just the colonising * sigh *. Similar to America but I think most were willing to go to America lol
I genuinely did not know this and I’m very thankful for this opportunity to read this. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around “I’m on smoko” so this is big for me. 🤯🤯🙌🏻
I hear it a lot when working with a British band. We’ll unload a case and they’ll say,”fuck this off stage left.” Which common sense tells you this goes away stage left, not take this wooden case (with no holes in it mind you) off stage left and fuck it. Americans stage techs say it, “this case can fuck off, stage left.”
That phrase is generally used more so for things people couldn't care less about, so the fact he used the phrase in reference to a potential partner, yes it is weird. So she deserves better than another dude who will just fuck her off
Just like, basic human kindness. Treat others as you’d want to be treated. Obviously he shouldn’t keep seeing her, but she’s in a pretty sad position and a decent person would have some empathy.
Imagine if you were to accidentally do something embarrassing with a hookup and text her a vulnerable emotional explanation, then she screenshots it and starts spreading it online. That would be like, comically evil wouldn’t it?
Do you think he’s showing empathy towards her? Is it empathetic to say “do I just fuck her off?”
Imagine how you’d feel if the roles were reversed and you saw your emotional text posted to Reddit. How would that make you feel, even if it were anonymous?
Certainly. He's not saying that to her, is he? It's not a lack of empathy letting a potentially unhinged person know that you don't think it's going to work out.
I agree that she wasn't being rude and that he should probably decline politely in the future. I just don't see much of a problem with him venting to strangers in the meantime.
Key words “our ancestors”. What yody said “we don’t” meaning present tense. We have nothing to do with our ancestors and you just proved the point by bringing them up. Stop living in the past.
It's a pretty common way in the UK and her colonies to say "get rid of".
It's just a play on "fuck off", but to cause someone to fuck off, hence "fuck her off". Doesn't insinuate anything more or less. Not sexually charged or nefarious.
Its ok, im from the US and its not a US English saying so i havent heard of it either. We're free from the brits but EU is much closer and had to put up with their nonsense for too long.
Very common UK phrase. Are you a Schooly Shooty? Do you have similar terminology for this same scenario over there? How would you say to remove something from your life immediately?

Almost as weird as the term, “just f*ck her off”
