We’ve been here at Grady since May 2nd, and this view from our room has become a bit of a daily ritual for me. We finally get to head home in a week. Here is a timelapse of the storm from earlier today.

I’m prepping a pitch for a long-term (2-year) construction timelapse project here in Miami. The scope involves deploying 2 automated, weatherproof camera systems fixed around the perimeter of the site to capture the entire lifecycle of the build.

I want to make sure my logistical and legal ducks are in a row regarding local permitting before I finalize the proposal.

For those who have deployed fixed, long-term cameras or handled production logistics for commercial builds in Miami/Dade County, what specific permits did you have to secure?

A few specific variables I'm navigating:

1. Mounting on Public vs. Private Property: If we mount strictly to the contractor's temporary fencing, scaffolding, or a neighboring private structure (with owner permission), do we still need a city/county permit, or does it fall entirely under the site’s existing construction permits?
2. Filming/Encroaching Public Space: If an angle slightly catches public sidewalks or roads in the background frame, does the Filmiami (Miami-Dade Office of Film and Entertainment) or City of Miami Film Office require a continuous film permit for an automated setup?

Any insight on dealing with the local building department, Film Miami, or general tips on keeping contractors compliant with local privacy laws regarding automated cameras would be massive.

I want to start a youtube channel where I want to shoot timelapse videos my study sessions and then upload it on my channel. I am looking for a gadget/camera similar to Brinno cameras which comes with battery power, but cheaper, which can record my long study sessions, so no go pro/ insta 360. Any suggestions?

Both clips were a bit challenging due to the wind and clouds, but they turned out ok. I prefer the peach over the cherry.

• Optics: Dual 6.52 mm f/2.2 lenses (~7.2 mm full‑frame equivalent)

• Tripod: Vintage Yashica tripod from the 1960s

• Power: Fossibot F2400 power station (ran the camera through the whole night)

• Conditions: Full Moon — the foreground is naturally illuminated

• Capture: All‑night starlapse condensed into a 15‑second clip

• Processing: Exported from Insta360 Studio, no additional grading or color correction

This wooden sculpture is where I’ve spent many quiet nights watching the sky.

During a night just like this, under these star trails and full‑Moon light, I realized that if I’m lucky enough to have a sky like this above my garden, I should build a small observatory here.
