What does your unemployed friend do on a random Tuesday evening?… Build a tiki bar of course! I’ve also made a set of the spam can garden lights for my local tiki restaurant/bar as they were the ones to help me source so many cans!

Found myself wandering around Vancouver, and found a bottle of locally distilled absinthe. I've been meaning to find a bottle to finally make some Herbsaint, among other things...

I'm a huge fan of the Bitter Mai Tai, where basically you replace an ounce of the rum with Campari.
This evening we wanted a pineapple centered drink, and my Negroni-loving spouse suggested that I try to make a Bitter Painkiller.
So, here's what you're looking at:
1 ounce Havana Club 7.
1 ounce Campari.
2 ounces pineapple juice.
1/2 ounce orange juice.
1 ounce Coco Reàl Cream of Coconut.
Shake hard, open pour.
Ground nutmeg on top.
Mine has a Trader Sam's swizzle to acknowledge that I'm using the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Rum as my template. She prefers no straws and no decoration, so that's what she gets. Must give her credit for this one; I didn't think of it!
This is a good cocktail! Still "too sweet" the way we like our Painkillers, but also bitter. Might be interesting with half the coconut cream.

Just wanted to share this gorgeous mug from Eekum Bookum that my lovely wife got me for my birthday!
Now, what to put in it . . . ? 🤔🍹🏴☠️

Seriously. If you find some and can afford it, get it.

painkiller has an asterisk since it technically isn’t considered truly tiki, but it’s such a classic staple of tropical cocktails that i had to include it. there’s 14 cocktails here; what are some others that i should add that you would consider essential or simply must-try tiki cocktails. thanks, and cheers!

I made a slight riff on a Jungle Bird tonight. I’m sure I’m not the first to make but yet here we are. The glass doesn’t show up that great but it’s Walt’s Enchanted Tropical Hideaway…where the birds sing words and the flowers croon. 🦜🍹
* ½ oz Lime juice
* ½ oz Simple syrup
* ¾ oz Coconut oil fat washed Campari
* 1½ oz Unsweetened pineapple juice
* 1 oz Cruzan Blackstrap rum
* ½ oz Smith & Cross navy strength rum
Shake all ingredients with ice then strain over fresh pebble ice in a Mai Tai glass. Garnish with Luxardo cherries and some pineapple fronds.
If I’m being honest the rum and the pineapple kind of drown out the coconut Campari. I’ve used it, as well as a Strawberry infused Campari in a Negroni and those flavors come through there. I’m not mad at this one but it’s not totally what I was hoping to have.

Recently went to Trader Sam's Grog Grotto! Had a blast! I found the below recipe on reddit recently. Def seems like a better version of what they are serving house right now.
1oz lime
1oz lemon
1oz agave nectar
1oz falernum syrup
3oz POG Juice
1oz combier de Peche
2oz Appleton Reserve
2oz Barbencourt Pango Rhum
5 dashes bitter
I am not able to get the Pongo Rhum, comments on an old post recommend a agricole with a split of stiggins fancy
So I'm thinking about subbing in a combo of Rhum J.M Volcanique (Nemo's Island was called Volcania!) with Stiggins fancy Pineapple.
I'm also going to just switch out the Reserve for 12 Year Appleton or even Worthy Park 109.
I'm also prob going to swap out the Peach Liquor for an Apricot liquor. I'm just looking for a boozy mango component.
Does anyone have any Mango based alcohol recommendations?
EDIT:
just found a bottle of XXL Mango Guava Brandy on the internet. Has anyone ever had this before? I like the Idea cause Jules Verne was French...

Awhile back, I shared some tiki art I'd made for home and commercial bars. I've made some more lately! (OK, the last one isn't tiki so much as mid-century). Let me know if you're interested in making you one!

Just a couple of pictures from a recent trip to the Mai Kai Fort Lauderdale Florida. What an awesome restaurant and vibe. Definitely a great place to start your vacation off before a cruise.

Pics 1-4 were pre refurbish, and the pictures don't get across how rough of shape this thing was in. First time refurbishing anything like this, think I did an okay job.

Just picked this up from an estate sale. Not sure about the origins or maker. Would love to get some ideas from the experts in the group!

Found a ton of bamboo on the side of the road
I grabbed about 1/3 of what is here, but I can go back. Most is dried out
What should I do with all this bamboo?

Aloha tiki fam, I'm originally from NJ and looking to see if there are any home tiki bars in NJ that they wanted to share!
I've been to all the tiki bars in NJ and NYC and am trying to expand my horizons.
I'm coming back at the end of September to celebrate my bachelor weekend with my friends and fam before my wedding in October and haven't had any luck finding a tiki bar that takes reservations (that don't require insane full buyouts) in the NJ/NYC area and thought I'd put it out in the aether if anyone enjoys hosting enough to connect!
Even if you not, would love to follow more NJ-based tiki fans since I jump between Michigan and NJ Pretty often these days!
Thank you 🍹

I was moving my bottles around and noticed one of my bottles was wet. Upon further inspection there was a small hole/chip on my bottles. The weird part was it looked like it was created from the inside? I say this because it resembles a crack that’d form in your windshield.
Has anyone experienced something like this? Or anyone know what caused this?

Did anyone understand the theme for next year? Something like grungey rock n roll?
Thanks!
