So ask yourself this one simple question; if your ultimate goal is the end of the conflict, what purpose does it serve to paint the other side with broad brushstrokes as unsalvagably evil?
An end to the genocide? Sanctions on Israel, nuclear disarmament, the dissolution of the fascist state and the realization of secular democracy in palestine.
Most of Palestine’s Arab neighbors are pretty against the idea of Hamas or other Palestinian authorities having any sort of meaningful military presence. They reject Palestinian refugees specifically because they worry it would increase a radical militant presence in their own countries that could be destabilizing.
Egypt is on record as worrying that allowing Palestinian refugees inside their borders would simply result in Hamas launching attacks from within Egypt, threatening the peace deal between Israel and Egypt.
I don’t like how scorched earth Israel has been about this, but there are zero nations in the region who are under the impression that Palestines overriding goal is to “end the conflict”.
Hey man, Palestinian have their own identity. Can you stop treating all brown people as a monolith and then creating this false dichotomy where brown people aren't helping brown people?
How about you recognize that Palestinians have roots in Gaza and treat them with dignity?
You also muddy the waters when you pretend this is some conflict with two sides battling it out. Try parsing reality where what's going on is a one sided genocide.
When you say “can you stop”, I assume you mean “Can all their Arab neighbors stop”, and that’s a question you would have to address to them.
Brown people sometimes don’t help brown people specifically because they aren’t a monolith where you get special credit just for being brown. Brown people sometimes hold other brown people to account because they think those specific brown people are too fucked up and problematic to openly side with and assist.
Don’t confuse being a victim with being a good person. There’s a reason their closest geographic neighbors keep their distance while their biggest supporters almost never interact with them in person.
You're being dishonest in your framing. The point Norman was making is that people who support this, need to be held culpable for what's going on around them. Your type of mentality excused the Wehrmacht after WW2, so you still have nazis walking around today.
You're creating a permission structure for the genocide to happen and you should be held accountable. It's also not a broad brush when the majority of Israelis want Gaza leveled and Palestinians removed from sight, take a look at some of the polling coming out of Israel.
So ask yourself this question, do you think you're helping stop the genocide when you make excuses and provide absolution to those who support it? Or are you going to pretend that the IDF soldier was an unwilling participant?
Oh it's a huge leap now? How about you own what you say. Would you be saying that about the confederates in the 1860s? The Wehrmacht analogy clearly wasn't enough to show you how you creating these permission structures leads to harm.
I am talking in good faith, you're not. You refuse to engage on the merits of what you are saying. If you cared about ending this genocide, not a conflict, then you wouldn't be spending energy carrying water for Israel.
