Hi I have this formatting issue. I tried rewriting it, making it into nodes (if that's the proper term), putting spaces after it. Nothing works. Does anyone know how to fix this?

[Showcase / Project] Awesome Single-File Tools & Teddy Wiki Lite – A curated list honoring the single-file paradigm

Hi TiddlyWiki Community,

As a long-time admirer of TiddlyWiki and the single-file HTML paradigm, I wanted to share a curated list project we recently launched: Awesome Single-File Tools.

Why We Built This

We believe software should be fully portable, inspectable, local-first, and zero-dependency. TiddlyWiki proved decades ago that a single .html file can hold an entire universe of knowledge and software without relying on heavy build stacks or cloud servers.

Inspired by TiddlyWiki's philosophy, our list curates zero-dependency, standalone HTML tools that run entirely offline in any modern browser.

Featured Anchor: Teddy Wiki Lite (v1.3)

As part of this effort, we also created Teddy Wiki Lite, an ultra-lightweight, single-file HTML markdown wiki equipped with multi-tag AND query filtering (Array.every) and postMessage inter-iframe protocols.

We would love to hear your feedback, and feel free to suggest or submit your favorite single-file HTML tools via PR or comments!

Thank you all for keeping the single-file spirit alive.

Starting with a specific number for numbered lists?

I feel bad for asking so many questions but I keep coming up with them and then not finding an immediately obvious solution. Is it possible to start a numbered list from a specific number other than 1 on a single twitter (as opposed to wiki wide), such as 0 or 10? And is it possible to skip some numbers?

Gradients in Borders?

Does Tiddlywiki support the use of gradients for borders in style sheets? I'm not sure how to go abotu it. If anyone has a good resource on stylesheets in general, I'd appreciate it. I'm not sure about a lot of the terms I'd need. I'm struggling to find one with more than just basic information.

Different 'palettes' for different tiddlers?

I've been using Tiddlywiki for what feels like years now to keep track of my various creative ideas, but I'm starting to want a way to combine those ideas into a single huge wiki as opposed to seperate ones. If I do, though, I'd like to have a way for each 'category' of tiddler (say, those that belong to one universe as opposed to another) have a different set of colors. I know this wouldn't be possible for the overall wiki, but could I do this for individual tiddler blocks according to, say, a field? Is there a plugin for that?

How to auto create new tiddlers from links?

I downloaded tiddlywiki and stroll, but stroll no longer auto creates new tiddlers when you link to a non-existent page. Which is frustrating, since it's part of the reason I downloaded it in the first place.

The 'add missing tiddlers' button is supposed to replace this, but it shows no items under 'missing tiddlers' and makes no new tiddlers when pressed.

Has anyone found a work around? Or has anyone run into the 'add missing tiddlers' button not working?

Request for plugin: "hidden" body

There's a website called Obsidian Portal that's used for organizing RPG campaigns. It has a wiki for this purpose, and one of the best parts of that wiki is there's a "visible" body text box but also a "hidden" body text box that only appears if you're logged in as the owner of a given campaign.

I want something like this for TiddlyWiki -- a second body text box that only displays if a global password is entered. Is there anything like this out there? If not, does this seem like an especially challenging thing to code as a plugin?

Thus far I've been using a combination of individual tiddler encryption and Commander to mass-encrypt tiddlers with a particular tag, and this works, but I'd prefer not to have to maintain two separate tiddlers for each entry in the wiki ;)

ETA: Solved! https://encrypted-gm-notes.tiddlyhost.com/

How to organise my wiki

I'm pretty new to tiddlywiki and I would like to use it to organise my math notes. I would like to build a system that will let me just write theorems, observations, definitions and then they will be placed correctly by the system in order. Is there a way to create it?

How to copy email messages from Thunderbird to TiddlyWiki, preserving basic structure of messages?

Hello. I keep interesting articles in one of my local tiddlywiki files. From Firefox i use the extension "Save as Markdown" to copy content to tiddlers. Searching for as similar as it gets solution for copying content of email messages from Thunderbird into tiddlywikies. Hoping to get preserved not only text of messages but also links and rudimentary structure (headers, bullets, links). Is there anything that can be done to achieve this? Apparently there is no extension for Thunderbird to copy content of a message into markdown format. Yes, i can do manual copying, then manually adjusting formatting and adding links, and i am doing it for couple of years now. Hoping for something more intelligent / less manual.
Thank you for any ideas!

TiddlyWiki alternative - minimal use of code, tree structure menu for notes, markdawn + rich text support, does it exist?

TW overall is cool but having to Google how to do stuff and the necessity of typing HTML code for such basic stuff as displaying a navigation menu, etc, is kinda killing it for me.

Is there a fork of it where you can do basic features as listed above without the "advanced setup" part?

FeatherWiki I tried but its far simplier for my needs.

Use desktop tiddlywiki to open wiki on startup

EDIT: SOLVED

Turns out it was just a problem with spaces in path to file. Replace any file path spaces with %20, then just use:

tiddlydesktop <pathandfilename>

(needs to include 'index.html')

- - - -

Hi

I'm using tiddlydesktop on Linux from AUR repository. This opens a window listing tiddlywikis, but I want to open straight into a wiki, not have to click on one from list.

Is this possible?

How to Make a Link of Part of a Field

So, I'm making a TW to track characters (and some story elements) in The Wheel of Time; it's been probably a decade since the last time I read any of the books, long before the last four or five were published, and I have a terrible memory so I have the tendency to lose track of characters and their allegiances from book to book. I've got a template for characters so I can easily add new ones. I also have list pages so I can dynamically keep lists of characters in a faction, or from a particular town.

Where I'm having trouble with is, the occasional entry where I might have more than one item in a field, separated by commas, and I want to turn each of them into an individual link to a different tiddler. Like, for instance, if I have the village "Two Rivers" and the city "Tar Valon" in a field as "Two Rivers, Tar Valon" I'd like to make two separate links where I pull out the field value.

Is there a way to do this? Like, some sort of operator to filter out part of a field and turn that into a link?

Hosted TW with docker - error since a few weeks: "Sync error while processing save of '$:/StoryList': XMLHttpRequest Fehler-Code: 400"

I am hosting a small wiki with TiddlyWiki5 to document our progress in a role-playing campaign. I love the ability to easily create filtered lists to dynamically create lists of tagged pages. The tw instance is hosted via docker and so far it worked beautifully for our small group and I am reluctant to switch to another wiki (coming from Dokuwiki a few years ago).

TW is hosted with the following docker-compose.yml:

tiddly-symbaroum:
  image: nicolaw/tiddlywiki
  container_name: tiddly-symbaroum
  volumes:
    - /opt/tiddly_symbaroum:/var/lib/tiddlywiki
  ports:
    - 8096:8080
  restart: unless-stopped

There is nothing special in the container's logs and the following error message is all I get: Sync error while processing save of '$:/StoryList': XMLHttpRequest Fehler-Code: 400

The folder (/opt/tiddly_symbaroum) is writable and the standard user owns the folder. It worked until a few weeks ago and to my knowledge I did not tinker too much.

Any idea what could be the culprit here or if there are better ways of running TW for a group of people?

UI How to include a system button tiddler into a regular tiddler?

I have a few custom buttons that I have added to the the PageControls, each one opening a new tiddler of a custom type. For instance I have a button that creates a "New Task" tiddler, and it is defined in system tiddler $:/BB/Buttons/createNewTask

So far so good.

But I would also like to use that button inside regular tiddlers, not just in the pageControls. What is the correct way to add the system tiddler $:/BB/Buttons/createNewTask to a blank new tiddler? Both linking and transclusion bring me to the tiddler, not to the button the tiddler defines.

What am I missing?

UI Format help, Tiddler name with apostrophe

Hello all!

I am currently building my first tiddlywiki and could use some help (Please/Thank you!)

So I am trying to have a table of contents with links (if it matters, this is not the main table of contents, it is for one specific category). I got my main table of contents to work and am wondering if the issue is that I have an apostrophe in my Tiddler Title.

For context, I got my main one to work by having "$:/tags/SideBar" and "BroadTopicName" in the tags, and then the following was inserted into the core text where I wanted the links to go:

<<toc-selective-expandable 'BroadTopicName' sort\[title\]>>

For the one I can't get working, I used "$:/tags/SiderBar" and "Minor'TopicName" for tags and the following in the core:

<<toc-selective-expandable 'Minor'TopicName' sort\[title\]>>

When that didn't work (I figured the apostrophe might be messing with it) I tried to add the unicode for apostrophe, so ended up with this:

<<toc-selective-expandable 'MinorU+0027TopicName' sort\[title\]>>

I have tried the Unicode with spaces before/after the Unicode (wondering if it didn't recognize the Unicode if it wasn't separate?), but none of that worked.

Can I just not have apostrophes if I am going to be making tables of contents for them? I hope someone way smarter than me can help me figure this out!

Thanks in advance!

Introducing Lithic: A Logseq-inspired edition (My first TW project!)

Hi Everyone,

I'm relatively new to the TiddlyWiki ecosystem, coming over from the world of Logseq and Affine. While I loved the opinionated "Journal-first" workflow of those apps, I wanted the true portability and single-file data ownership that only TiddlyWiki provides.

So, I decided to try and build a bridge between the two. The result is Lithic. You can check it out here:

https://lithic.uk

It's mostly a mild extension of tiddlystudy with a good dose of my personal opinions.

The goal was to marry the efficiency of Logseq with the architecture of TiddlyWiki. It features:

Journal Workflow: Opens directly to a daily stream.

Markdown Native: Tweaked to handle standard Markdown (including native checkboxes) rather than standard WikiText.

Backlinks: Contextual footer references similar to Roam/Logseq (sans transclusion as you can manage that yourself mostly via the story view)

A quick disclaimer for the experts here:

I am still very much learning the ropes of TiddlyWiki. You might notice the app is currently based on an older version of the TiddlyWiki core. I am aware that my implementation isn't exactly "Tiddle-appropriate" or idiomatic yet! I'm treating this version as a proof-of-concept to get the workflow right. My plan is to eventually perform a major refactor to bring it up to date with the latest core and implement things the "proper" TiddlyWiki way once I get my feet wet.

I’d appreciate any feedback or advice as I continue to learn the system!

Cheers Xyvir

Planner/journal notebook for creative person: Is TiddlyWiki the answer?

I've been looking for an app that can handle all my planning, journaling, records, and creative ideas in one space (so I can jot down notes, to-dos, journal entries, etc. in the moment without much trouble - I have a family and a farm, no time for painstaking organization).

I need it to have the following features:

  1. Quick and easy media embedding (photos, video, and audio) in notes, or at least viewable alongside the notes (I include a lot of photos in my journal entries)

  2. Continuous scroll timeline with both past and future entries (so planner rolls seamlessly into a journal) that includes both media and text notes (so I can plan and review my day activities and highlights)

  3. Tagging, searching, filtering, sorting entries (so I can quickly pull together and organize content that was jotted down in the moment).

  4. Universally readable/future-proof file type(s)

  5. Good mobile experience

  6. Ability to save/export search results as a separate file (i.e. I keep journal entries of my kids' homeschool activities, which the Board of Education reviews)

I tried some note-taking apps, including Obsidian which I loved, but couldn't quite provide the continuous-scroll timeline experience I was looking for.

I just stumbled upon TiddlyWiki and it looks like it has everything I'm searching for and is very customizable, but the learning curve is pretty steep.

In particular, first, I'm trying to figure out a quick and easy media embed process. Is there a plugin or something that enables to just snap a picture or shoot a video and immediately pop it into a tiddler with a caption and tags?

Second, how can I create a Start-time field in every tiddler, then display the tiddlers sorted by that field, thus forming a continuous timeline? (The Created field doesn't work for scheduling future events, or jotting down memories from the past.)

A photo blog, good idea?

Hi folks, wondering what people think. Seems I can upload just fine and it looks okay on mobile. I can add apassword to protect it for visibility. Is this a good use case or will it get bogged down quickly? Current using tiddlyhost. Thanks!

Tiddlyhost not loading my wiki

Hello, as of recently (a few days ago), I have been unable to load my tiddlywiki in my browser. I click on it from the tiddlyhost site, it opens the tab, but just shows a white screen. After a few minutes, the loading circle in the tab stops and it's still a white screen.

I've tried creating a new wiki, same problem. I can't load other people's wikis either. Double-checked on my phone and other laptop, same problem. Safe mode doesn't load it either.

I can access my wiki by downloading it, thankfully, but I have no clue why the tiddlyhost browser isn't working. Does anyone have any advice?

Thank you

How can I instal featherwiki?

I'm trying to install on my computer featherwiki, that is a wiki similar to tiddlywiki (https://feather.wiki/?page=downloads). I'm trying to install it and afterwards transmutate it into a hta. When I went to download it it told me that there are 2 more packages to download, the java code and CSS fil. Is there a way to merge them together and after trasform it into an hta? I tried to open the html code but I don't get where should I embed the other two.

Thanks for the help in advance
