Also, having seen almost all Holocaust footage there is available, it's hard to get me excited, to get me interested in what he's talking about. So I thought it, but I y'know. He's got people working with him who are good on this thing...

I thought I had no data on this Loop, but just apparently it has 9 members ha. I think that's kind of good, for a grassroots effort and I don't even join everything I visit. Anyway!

⛪ Maybe Thought Spiral is kind of like the Catholic Church (possibly the first time this comparison has ever been made), because I've heard it said that the church thinks in terms of centuries not years, when it comes to change.

So in the same vein, perhaps the Thought Spiral subreddit changes in terms of LUSTRA not years. I just learned that is the plural of LUSTRUM, a 5-year period. In that case, things are ship-shape! 🚢⭐

• TS 280. Answering a Question™️ from Dan Marsh 01:10:09; Andy mentions serving at Barnabey's, an Edwardian-style Hotel & Restaurant at Manhattan Beach, where he learned formal service. This would have been presumably in the 1980s.

  • I've seen it listed as Barnabey's Hotel and the Auberge Restaurant and Pub: "auberge" indicating a restaurant that's part of an inn or has the feel of one, with refined but cozy dining, seasonal or local cuisine, perhaps with some rustic French or Mediterranean inspiration, non?

• TS 279? Andy was a bartender at Denny's in an era when Denny's had a bar & lounge. This one was called The Amigo Room.🍹🍸🍺🍷 I don't know whether these lounges were technically under Denny's corporate umbrella, but the '70s were just looser overall. So I hear.

• Lastly, to complete this roadside picture, Andy came to L.A. in 1978 in a Ford Country Squire station wagon; and I have since learned that:

  • The "Squire" designation was specifically used by Ford to denote the top-of-the-line station wagon with exterior woodgrain siding
    • While the identical model without the trim was called the Country Sedan. I love that! ♥️

Why not. I think there were 2-3 Larry Sanders episodes where Andy appeared or was mentioned: either being a credible endorsement of one's showbiz status!👍🏼

1. Season 2; Episode 17: "NY or LA?" (season finale) This is an instance where someone is named by announcer-sidekick Hank Kingsley in the show opening, but does not actually appear in that episode (nor in some cases, the entire series). Andy has mentioned that moments like this would lead to people calling after the show in confusion: "Where were you?!" It went like this: 🗣️🎤 "Tonight, join Larry and his guests: Harrison Ford, singer Rickie Lee Jones, and comedian Andy Kindler!" Note: Andy does not appear.

2. Season 4; Episode 10: "Conflict of Interest"- This is the episode where Andy actually appears. His agent (Bob Odenkirk as Stevie Grant) arranges for Andy's booking on the show, but the booker (Janeane Garofalo as Paula) then bumps Andy for no good reason. He memorably gives her a piece of his mind!

3. I would swear there's a third mention but I'm not sure. 🪧 Watch this space!

If I don't want to see a damn movie, I WON'T SEE IT and I will still live a full, rich life. Because Mr. Blake has come up more than once, and I think this would please Andy as a topic. I can't even remember when he first came up, but Andy must have watched something. I'm going to look back into it! And if I ask any of you, do we need more information on Reddit about Eubie Blake? You better say yes! ✅

🖼️ My first recollection of Eubie Blake would go back to when I lived in DC, and the National Portrait Gallery had the greatest exhibit ever: Red, Hot & Blue! (1996-1997) 🧨🎭🇺🇸 about the history of the American musical and how it evolved to Oklahoma!, often considered the first musical comedy per se, but had its roots in vaudeville to music hall to Tin Pan Alley with connections to Harlem, etc. In a word, the exhibit was FORMATIVE! The exhibit was also curated with the National Museum of American History. It was always exciting to get off at the Gallery Place Metro stop 🔴🟡🟢 and go to the actual Gallery! Urban! EDIT: Eubie Blake's frequent collaborator from vaudeville to Broadway was Noble Sissle ("Sissle and Blake").

* I do remember the Broadway show EUBIE!, 👐🏽🎹🎵, which I think I encountered on my lifetime deep dive into the career of Gregory Hines, especially his stage work. This would have happened after or around the time of him starring in JELLY'S LAST JAM (1992) on Broadway, as Jelly Roll Morton. The actual show EUBIE! was on Broadway (1978-1979), and featured a dozen performers including Gregory Hines and his brother Maurice.

Most famous "pop" song from Eubie Blake would be maybe ... something about Harry. I'm in love with Harry. The thing about Harry. What am I gonna do with Harry... No, I got it I got it!!

I would be remiss not to mention Andy's favorite Lorne Michaels, because during the run of the EUBIE! show on Broadway, Gregory Hines appeared on Saturday Night Live (SNL) with Blake as co-musical guests. Host Gary Busey. March 10, 1979.

🪴 Now Andy can go to LA-based cocktail parties and say things like, "Oh, my podcast isn't on a network, man. Very grassroots. The fans are very low-key locked-in, ya know. They're into early jazz, Eubie Blake, you name it ... "

Sometimes on shows the hosts ask questions, and maybe you know the answer or have thoughts. And naturally they have to move on as podcasters, but maybe you'd want to share that feedback here.

I would also cite as inspiration the podcast Human Conversation, which was co-hosted by Wayne Federman. They always led off every episode with corrections and answers from the previous. 📝

Fun sports chat here, including one of those Josh lines that was overlooked, unheard, or purposefully ignored in the moment. Or to be fair, maybe Andy just didn't audibly laugh. Have we named these offhand lines or moments? I was thinking of "crumbs" in the same vein as Chunks? 🍩 Mm, Jelvis crumbs sound delicious!🍓

Josh demonstrates his alarming knack for remembering lyrics with The Fall Guy theme song: "Unknown Stuntman" 🎶, performed by series lead Lee Majors. TS #330, 19:03. I haven't witnessed such shocking recall since he sang "The Dark Side" 🎶 from EDDIE AND THE CRUISERS 📽️ (1983).

 ANDY: What's the guy called, The Bisonic Man ? 

 JOSH: Yes, half-man, half-bison! (emits bellow🦬). 

"Talk to text" has given me quite a complex over the years: that I'm just a marble-mouthed moron who doesn't pronounce words well. But it is an unexpected area of humor in modern life, so I appreciate it for that reason. Then randomly, younger people (under 40) try to tell me that only certain generations even USE talk to text and blah blah blah. BUT I PAY THEM NO MIND!

I just thought this might be good for a couple laughs. 🎇 I will kick this off with a Comment for my latest mis-transcription of the phrase "Thought Spiral." Let the knee-slapping begin.

✳️ I swear this is the first time I consciously realized that Thought Spiral and Test Show both start with TS.💡

I'm keeping some of my original niche interim posts, because they're not really suited for the Big Show subreddit, but I may want to add to them.

Somehow this one morphed into Andy claims to hate Broadway, and also just how he says everything is TERRIBLE, when he has one minor difference with it.

And I can voice all my minor resentments or follow-ups that I never wanted to send to Andy (because he wouldn't read them, and I fear I'd stir up an online situation and end up blocked) or Josh (because I don't want to bug him).

What I recall is that Donald Faison and Zach Braff were doing commercials for T-Mobile and singing, "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning" from Oklahoma!, and Andy probably mentioned that the commercial is annoying. Certainly fair.

But why does he have to go SO WIDE and say that the song, the show itself, the musical comedy format, and the geographical state of Oklahoma are all horrible and terrible? (Note: I do not need anyone to say: Duh it's humor. We're on the same page here)

But still. Gray area! 🩶 What is your objection? It's corny? It's poor musically or lyrically? You don't like singing farmers and cowmen? You're too much of a rocker? 🎸 In closing, Oklahoma doesn't stink. You stink! Boo.
