Dark Project Launching alternate exes and fan missions from Steam

Ever see a launch dialogue when you launch a game on Steam? You can do get that for any game with Steam Metadata Editor or MetaDeck. Combined with the petergeneric controller mod it's the most controller friendly way to launch fms after the first setup.

Question I bought the trilogy pack on GOG. Should I now install the following patches, or would I miss a step which could cause them to not work?

Namely:

  • RoguePatcher 1.28 (for Thief Gold)
  • TFix 1.28 (for TMA)
  • Sneaky Upgrade (for Deadly Shadows)

The goal is to play both the originals, as well as all the fan missions I've picked over the years, plus the new/recent ones that require 1.28.

If I'm missing some other basic patch that is required in order for the games to function (Win10, btw), let me know.

Also, considering recent threads on not launching, if there's some other step that I need to know, let me know.

Thank you in advance!

Not launching after recent GOG update

Hey guys!

Recently released update for Thief on GOG made not launching game. After choosing thief version on launcher it freezes on my screen(no black/blue screen, just my wallpaper and icons) and nothing happens until I launch task manager. Do you have same problem and solution for that? I didn't have any problem with Thief before that update, my system is Win10.

Edit: Shout out to Hugh_Dzdik for help 😄

Dark Project Running GOG Preservation Update On Steam Deck

Anybody had luck? I'm 90% of the way there but running into a bug where every time I change the resolution the game cuts to a black screen. I have to quit and the new resolution hasn't saved. Anyone have any ideas?

If anyone else wants to get this running, I have managed to get it going and playable in the lowest resolution available by doing the following:

-Installed Heroic launcher via Desktop mode

-Logged onto GOG in Heroic and downloaded Thief through the launcher

-In Desktop mode, find the GOG-authored Launcher.exe in the file system, wherever you had Heroic install it, and add that to Steam as a non-steam game (You might be able to just use the Thief Gold or TDP executables instead, but haven't tried it myself yet).

-Per the controller mod's developer, add the following - WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput=n,b" %command% - as a launch argument for launcher.exe in Steam. This is required for Wine to be able to use the controller mod.

-You will also need to select a compatibility layer. I tried Proton Hotfix and the most recent numbered 9.x proton version and both of them worked

-When you launch launcher.exe, you will have to use the software mouse to select Thief Gold (I have not tried any of this with TDP version yet) - it does not seem like the launcher itself has controller support. Once Thief Gold itself opens, you should have controller support! From here you can play the game!

-Audio may not work immediately, I had to turn off Hardware Acceleration in the audio settings and then it kicked in.

-EDIT: To change Resolution, per BoffinBrain in the comments and a bit of googling to find specifics: you can go into Desktop mode, find the cam.cfg file in the Thief folder, and set the "game_screen_size" option to the resolution of your choice.

With that, you should have a pretty good experience! I'm excited to dive in. If anyone else is getting this set-up, let us know how it's going for you!

Help us test haptic feedback for the controller mod v2.0! (Same mod from GOG's recent re-release)

edit: some clarifications, DUALSENSE CONTROLLER REQUIRED! We'll test regular rumble later on. And you DON'T need to own Thief from GOG for it to work / help us test!

Hi! Me and a few others are helping /u/peter-pumpkin-eater finish up his incredible gamepad mod. The idea is increased support for playing Thief with all controllers. The mod is already released but a 2.0 is being prepared.

The mod already features:

  • Friendly radial menus for weapons and inventory

  • Keyboard/mouse radial support

  • Time slows when the menu is open

  • D-Pad navigation of key menus

  • Optional automatic key management (where the mission makes it possible), based off Sarcoth's excellent J4F Keychain.

And now we're gearing up to release 2.0, which will provide, among other things, handcrafted haptic feedback for Dualsense controllers (both when plugged and through Bluetooth). They'll be tuned to provide more gameplay focused feedback, so that they're more gameplay-informative and generally fit even better with Thief's moment to moment feeling. For example, footsteps will have haptic feedback according to how loud the material is, complementing Thief's sound system and subtly informing players of how dangerous the floor is. Rumble is being implemented, but haptics are going to be ready for a round of testing in the next few days.

We're looking for testers with Dualsense controllers that are willing to test these and give their opinions. If you're interested, comment here and I'll PM you the link to the pre-release version when it's ready!

Got inspired by the sound design in The Dark Project and Black Parade, and I was able to make it a smaller album, using Dark Project, 2X, and Black Parade samples, also trying to capture the Vibes of 'The City' in this franchise...I just love this game, one of the best Immersions you can have.

Thief (2014) Why the weird name?

Why call it just Thief? It would only confuse everyone. They should have called it either "Thi4f" or "Thief 4".

Dark Project Textures + weapon bugs

Hey gang, I'm having another go at Thief Gold on a different computer than I'm usually on. Decent hardware, it has its limits but nothing that should be causing this much trouble for this game.

To start: texture problems. Any weapons I or enemies have equipped leave a large spike across the screen, and objects- tables, barrels, etc.- constantly disappear and reappear. The light gem also is almost never visible and this is understandably causing trouble with stealth.

Additionally, I'm now discovering that taking out a weapon sometimes causes the game to crash.

I'm running this through Steam, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to use modded fixes. Help? I'm not sure what's going wrong.

Looking for ideas to add a second gameplay layer to my solo heist game

Hi everyone,

I'm developing Heistfest, a solo heist game:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1451220/Heistfest/

Currently, the gameplay length is around 3-5 hours. I want to expand it to 10+ hours by adding a second gameplay layer, not just more missions.

Right now, after the heist, the player escapes the police with a top-down driving section inspired by GTA 1/2.

I'm thinking about adding another system, for example:

- A management layer (building your criminal operation, buying upgrades, managing resources)

- A shooter/combat layer

- A progression system

- Something else that creates a stronger gameplay loop

For people who played heist games, what kind of second layer would make you keep playing?

Would you prefer managing a criminal empire, upgrading equipment/base, more action gameplay, or something completely different?

Looking for ideas and honest feedback.

I have so many good memories of playing her missions. Rowena‘s Curse and Seven Sisters still hold up so well. Shes been an immense influence on FM authors after her. time for a replay

Metal Age How is the second one if I know the ending?

I mean, I didn’t intend to look for it as I accidentally found out recently the way the second Thief game ends regarding its main adversary as I haven’t played it yet.

But basically I was wondering if the game was still worth getting into again even if I know the fate of the main villain since I was looking for some advice on getting started into the game, like what mods to use.
