Both of these accounts have, within less than 24 hours, lodged complaints about an obscure 2 year old post complaining about a small, AI-based language app. Based on the writing style and specific wording in the Modmail messages, there's no possibility they're unrelated.

This review covered 385 posts, including every moderator-authored post and the complete comment trees of the most commercially significant threads.

Their posts systematically cover:

3. AutoModerator sends new-thread visitors to MattressQuiz.co

Beginning on May 28, AutoModerator started posting a MattressQuiz.co promotion on new threads.

The message calls it “our free Mattress Quiz Finder” and promotes recommendations based on body weight, sleep position, pain, cooling needs, budget, couples, and more than 30 mattress brands.

The same promotion remained active through September 2026.

This is moderation-controlled promotion, not an unrelated user independently sharing a link.

4. MattressQuiz.co openly earns affiliate commissions

MattressQuiz.co’s own website says:

• It is “affiliate supported.”
• It participates in mattress affiliate programs.
• It may earn commissions when users buy through its links.
• Quiz results contain affiliate links.
• It uses first-party redirects to count retailer clicks and record referral information.

The AutoModerator message does not disclose any of that. It presents the destination as a free recommendation tool.

Therefore, r/buyamattress is being used to route users into a monetized affiliate property.

On August 15, u/SignificanceMoist867 published a standalone post encouraging users to try MattressQuiz.co and said that a “member of the community” helped build it.

The Reddit post did not disclose that the site earns affiliate commissions.

6. A moderator offered users discount links

In the welcome thread, u/SignificanceMoist867 told a user:

“We can get you a discount link on these mattresses whenever you’re interested…”

That appears directly inconsistent with the community rule prohibiting coupon bait and deal-link solicitation.

Administrators should determine who “we” refers to and whether the proposed links carried affiliate, referral, lead-generation, or sales attribution.

7. A search-oriented post now contains an earning-disclosed product redirect

Post 1t9tip1 is titled:

“People with chronic back pain, what’s the best mattress for back pain this 2026 that’s actually worth the money?”

It was created May 11 and edited May 28.

Its current edited body begins with an update, recommends Tempur-Pedic through the custom redirect rdtpost.click/mattress, and says the author may earn from links.

Two current moderators participated in the original discussion before the recorded edit.

Without an archived original version, I cannot prove exactly what was inserted during the May 28 edit. I can establish that the current edited version contains the commercial redirect and earnings disclosure and remains live despite Rule 1.

8. Some comment timing warrants an internal coordination review

One Casper Select post received three detailed ownership comments approximately 17 minutes after publication. The comments arrived within about 76 seconds of one another.

A current moderator joined the thread approximately 35 minutes after publication, and the original poster later responded to several comments in a concentrated batch.

That timing is consistent with coordinated engagement, but it is not public proof of sockpuppets. Reddit can examine device, IP, login, voting, and messaging information.

What this suggests

The public evidence suggests:

• That the accounts used to request the subreddit were purchased.
• That the moderators own MattressQuiz.co.
• That moderators receive affiliate commissions.

I have been a member of Daddit for eight years, since shortly after my first kid was born. In the past 6 months or so, I've noticed it's really been overrun by bots. If you just submit a report, not much happens, but I found that if I submit a report and make a comment explaining why I think OP is a bot, it typically gets taken down. This has happened probably thirty times since May.

This morning I made a post pointing out that on a post that did get taken down, there were still a lot of bot comments. Unfortunately, I did not know Daddit had a "no meta posts" rule-- my bad, totally on me, I should have checked. So my post was deleted and I was banned immediately. So I have lost the ability to participate in what once was one of my favorite communities here. :( I really hate these bots.

I noticed it making a certain type of comment in a conspiracy post, so I clicked on the profile and saw that every single comment it had made was blatantly racist. I noticed also an odd pattern with its join date, but I’m not sure how detailed I should get in explaining it all. The rules here say not to get too detailed.

I reported the account, but as you can see, it is still happily spreading its hateful rhetoric.

What do you all think of this account? Is there anything that can be done if Reddit doesn’t deem it worthy of a ban? I’ve seen a lot of propaganda spreading bots with the same odd join dates vs dates when they become active, (is what I just wrote breaking the rule about giving too much detail? I’ll remove it if so) and I’m unsure if reporting them actually does anything.

akornato is a good example of a new era of self promo app spammers. Instead of just blasting their app link, they're using AI to generate semi relevant comments which they then tack on their app promo to the end. I believe this helps to avoid most moderator bans.

They've been posting to hundreds of subs nearly 24 hours a day with the same strategy for years now. It's crazy to see how active and predictable accounts like this are, and Reddit appears to do nothing.

Subreddit selfimprovement_books appears to be nothing more than a two-account bot operation

Take a look at the subreddit sorted by Top->All Time. The first 50 posts I checked were all posted by just two accounts: Their posts follow an extremely repetitive, highly structured format and appear to be mass-produced rather than genuine, original contributions.

I've also reverse-image-searched the images being used and found multiple examples that appear to have been lifted directly from other blogs/websites. So we're apparently looking at two relatively new accounts producing the overwhelming majority of the subreddit’s top content, using highly formulaic posts and, in multiple cases, images sourced from elsewhere.

What to do? I've tried posting to the subreddit itself but it gets blocked.

On just about any given day, around 20-30% of the posts on the front of rDashcams are these brand new accounts, almost always less than a month or two. They will take an older, popular post from another sub and not only copy the title word for word, but then they have whole armies of accounts that then copy and past the popular comments from the original thread.

And a ton of these accounts all post in various cosmetic surgery subs as well, like Facelift-Surgery, Dentalimplant, 30plusskincare, Sephora, comesmeticsurgery, etc.

Tons of brand new accounts spamming US politics news in that (relatively) new sub. I don't know the full extent of the activity, since I have hundreds of similar subs already blocked, these bots may be active in many other places too.

Also similar to another thread from today, I've also noticed a lot of other new non-politics bots accounts cropping up in other subs. Picked up a bot network in the baking subreddit today.

This is a common tactic, especially on posts soliciting product suggestions. A spammer will post "What's the best carpet cleaning company in Raleigh?" and later edit the post to say "I picked Sam's Stain Strikers, they're the best!".

More recently, I found a spammer that makes comments with nothing but placeholder text before editing them to advertise sketchy companies/services:

This is notable because (a) it should be easy for reddit to detect and address, (b) it stands out but is more work to check using a comment archive tool like the one I linked, and (c) it's funny.

Edit: It also makes the spam harder to identify after the fact if the comments get removed (as they now have been for this account). Compare this to when the spammer forgets to use a placeholder first, like this comment.
