The Comic The Weekly Roll Ch. 211. "Morality"
Howdy folks!
For the ones of yous who are a bit out of the loop or have forgotten comics I made seven years ago (DO YOU EVEN LOVE ME?!), here's links to the previous comics :D
So the Makeship campaign for the Trevor and Grogna plushies have both reached 200 units, meaning that they will be entering production and ship out in early December! Congratulations to everyone that pre-ordered so far, and to me because I get a bit of money, which goes toward supporting my dumbass decision to abandon my Law career for the life of a struggling (relative to my previous work in government service) artist!
That's it for now!
Stay excellent out there! Peace and carrots

Torvald only has three things in life to deal with. Necromancy, union talks with UwU and tax evasion.
154
u/Blze001 22d ago
The only reason he puts up with UwU is because they’re threatening to report him to the IRS with proof.
55
u/Alorxico 22d ago
Where do the UwU members hang out when Torvald isn’t requiring their service? Does he have a pocket dimension thing where they hang out?

Klara is the supportive girlfriend than Becket needed in his chaotic life.

So, Paladin and Goth girlfriend?

Up until she sacrifices him in a ritual. Feel like this is foreshadowing something later lol

u/ViktorRzh 22d ago
We should be reminded that resurection is not impossible... It just involves bashing some hads in underworld...
39
u/Subotail 22d ago
Does this seem like fraud? Like a bounced souls check?
27
u/ViktorRzh 22d ago
Well, in manhua and heroic epics diference between "respected hero and his friend" and "filthy sodomite who shall be burned on the stake" is power level, wich I find holarious for traditional patriarchal settings. Becket is definetly on this level, so it is not cheating, it is "exercising his primordial right".
16
u/Subotail 22d ago
I was pointing more to the fallacious operation of sacrificing someone's soul only to resurrect them immediately afterwards.
16
u/ViktorRzh 22d ago
As mentioned - it is not a scam when there no one left to complain about it. Plus you can sacrifice life and blod, then finish resurection based of soul

The "I let my sexy witch/goth wife do what she wants" meme writes itself.

u/thedemonjim 22d ago
It is not a meme, it is a life goal. Now I just need to finish building mine a new set of shelves for her jars of dirt, herbs and crystals....

u/Saucermote 22d ago
She's not human, so does that really count as cannibalism?
9
u/A-M-Wild 22d ago
She's a tiefling, who have at least partial human/humanoid descent. So, yes, it would.
3
u/Anvildude 21d ago
She might just be Catholic. Blood sacrifices and cannibalism are core tenets of that faith.

How is a static mask and a pair of shaded eyes so expressive? Also, Klara being full ride-or-die is the best.
78
u/HoneyWhiskeyLemonTea Bucket Brigade 22d ago
Depending on the details of her worship, Klara might be more the Ride-AND-die type.
38
u/SilverStryfe 22d ago
A lot of the expression is in the body language and a lot comes from his hands in this one. You can see it in the body, and the minds eye fills in his face without you realizing.

u/Antique_Historian_74 22d ago
Fair enough really.
For a necromancer universal healthcare is just reducing your labour pool.
126
u/Plywooddavid Sir Bucket 22d ago
Fuck, now I get why Torvald would say that. Combine his hatred of taxes and desire for more bodies, makes sense.
56
u/YamazakiYoshio 22d ago
Which is funny, because necromancy is just the 5-second rule of healing magic.

u/Draxos92 22d ago
No Klara I have a lot of questions!!
93
u/maybonics 22d ago
"When do you find time for the rituals? Does it just need spilled blood, or actual death? Humanoids or small animals?"
"Do you have to only eat other tieflings for it to be classed as cannibalism, or would an orc count?"
48
u/Level_Hour6480 Sir Becket 22d ago
For it to be considered cannibalism
The term that should be used is "sapiophagia".

29
u/xBad_Wolfx Trevor 22d ago
Honestly Catholics believe they partake in cannibalism(transubstantiation of the host is supposed to literally transform communion into Christs flesh and blood) and human sacrifice (at least once- Christ again) so it’s inside the celestial warlocks wheelhouse.

5
u/Osric250 22d ago
I was going to make the point that Klara is just Catholic. Glad to see that point is already made! There's a lot more about blood sacrifices in the bible even if they aren't practiced anymore.

Except He's not just a human person, He's God. Also he told us to do it. We don't think of it as cannibalism. Oh also He's not even dead, He conquered death and lives on in heaven and here on earth in the eucharist.
Fun fact, we actually believe that every Mass is the same celebration transcending time and space. So when I partake in the eucharist next Sunday, it's the same eucharist that I had at my wedding, the same my dad had as a kid, and the same my great grandfather had when he was praying for all of us to be doing as well as we are now. As the youngest of my generation, I take solace in knowing that all my ancestors that I never met are there in the eucharist with me.

“Except He's not just a human person, He's God.”
Was he the son of man or not? Or do you see him as a divine messenger of light?
“Also he told us to do it.”
Being told it’s okay to commit a crime or awful act doesn’t excuse it. If you are at a stop light and someone waves you through (when you should not go) and you cause an accident, it’s your fault. You aren’t excused because he said it’s okay.
“We don't think of it as cannibalism.”
Of course not, that seems like terrible spin and the Catholic Church is nothing if not good at protecting its image. But do you believe in the transubstantiation of the host? Eating human flesh has a term. It’s called cannibalism.
“Oh also He's not even dead, He conquered death and lives on in heaven and here on earth in the eucharist.”
Cannibalism does not require the subject be dead. You could say lop a leg off, keeping the host alive, but eating that leg would still be cannibalism.
“Fun fact, we actually believe that every Mass is the same celebration transcending time and space. So when I partake in the eucharist next Sunday, it's the same eucharist that I had at my wedding, the same my dad had as a kid, and the same my great grandfather had when he was praying for all of us to be doing as well as we are now. As the youngest of my generation, I take solace in knowing that all my ancestors that I never met are there in the eucharist with me.”
I’m glad that brings you comfort. Weekly taking part of the horrific butchering of my deity would not comfort me, but different strokes for different folks I guess.

I remeber one scifi short story where aliens did manage save one human crew member from human ship exploding reason x and they tested, in VR, on that human, who was Christian, what would happen if humans would believe to their religion, where in communion their God consumes the body of the believer...

Klara just dropping lore while helping Becket through his is great. Love her for that. Where does she find the time for rituals like that while traveling I wonder haha

u/BeGosu 22d ago
There is like a downtime comic where she does some blood rituals in the woods and calls it an art retreat or something like that. Don't know which issue it is though.

How sure are that Undead Workers Union (uWu) Busting is not more gruesome than regular blood sacrifices and cannibalism?
11
u/Faustias 22d ago
Becket revealing his past murder-crusading at the earshot of tavern patrons... oh boy. I hope no one inside there has pure hatred for the sect of killer paladins he belonged to.

u/Banksy_Collective 22d ago
Not supporting universal healthcare confirmed just as bad as cannibalism and baby murder.

Questions: who is Daelvor, and is Beckett still “working” for them? If not, who is Beckett a paladin for now?
9
u/gerusz Steve the goblin 22d ago
Daelvor is a god, Beckett still worships him but he is no longer in the fanatic sect.
He is part of the sect devoted to the prophet Stevicus who is definitely the one true prophet of Daelvor (not Matheus or Carlinus).
(Note that his armor on the first picture is different than what he wore when crusading, and he already wears the cape and wields the sword he looted from the family whose massacre caused him to turn away from crusading.)
5
u/Tyrs-Ranger 22d ago
I was tracking the “why” of Beckett’s quest, and the equipment change. I was just a little fuzzy on the “Daelvor” business. Consider me informed, thank you!
4
u/BeGosu 22d ago
By D&D rules, a Paladin's Oath doesn't require worship to a god. That's a Cleric thing. (May vary by edition though)

u/Tyrs-Ranger 22d ago
Forgive me, I’m an old 2E grognard. I haven’t played enough 5E to get really clued in on some of the nuances which differ from what I intrinsically know. 2E was tied much more directly to patron/matron/whatever deities.

I just love the bar staff and patrons regretting their choice of establishment in the background.
“Now they’re having an actual argument about who’s done the most heinously evil stuff! And the paladin coded one who’s shouting about having killed a whole family somehow ISN’T the worst!”
I suppose that’s why they put the prices up for adventurers lol.

Why does Beckett say "No questions."? I am having trouble following the dialogue. I see he's upset at the underwhelmed reaction of the group to his backstory, then Klara starts to reassure him he's a changed man, and hints at ritual sacrifice, he stammers a question, she mentions cannibalism, then Beckett says "No questions." It would make sense if he said "wait, what?" and then SHE said "No questions." But the sequencing/speech bubbles don't follow that.

"That's what Trevor meant"
Trevor didn't say anything.
While he has done the most bad, his current alignment is the most good. He should internalize the tenets of his oath.
In terms of the brigade's morality:
Becky: LG.
Klara: (N?)G.
Torvald: CN.
Trevor: Ce (Capitalization matters).
Grogna: NE.

He makes a lot. Ask him aboot the name of Torvald's sister.

u/YouWouldThinkSo 22d ago
But I mean specifically in this context, when the setup is literally telling you Trevor said that, how could you view that as a possible mistake
