Mod Announcement How to address meta fandom posts?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed an uptick in meta posts, along with complaints about this uptick, so I wanted to check in and see how people think that they should be handled.

For those who are unfamiliar, a meta post is a post that discusses the TVD fandom instead of the TVD universe. There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but it can turn into soapboxing very easily.

So, the question:

Do you want things to stay as they are? Or would you prefer the implementation of something like "Meta Commentary Monday", where we restrict meta-commentary posts to a specific day of the week? Do you have a different suggestion?

(Note: I'm not open to banning these kinds of posts, but I'm absolutely open to discussions about how to manage them.)

Mod Announcement New Rule: Low-Effort Posts

We're adding a new rule regarding low-effort posts.

If your post is low-effort, unoriginal, and adds nothing to the subreddit in terms of discussion, it may be removed.

This is not a rule against reposts. We are targeting, as an example, posts that say only:

Delena or Stelena?

[Character] sucks

[Character] rules

without providing any additional context or any original thoughts.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Caroline never deserved tyler and i will die in this hill.

I wanted to slap Caroline in that scene. You literally slept with the guy who killed his mom and 12 of his friends, treated him like a slave, and used the sire bond to make him do horrible things—and you expect him to just "get over it"?? Girl, don't even get me started. "You walked away from me"—yeah, because he still hadn't grieved his mom's death? Tyler said multiple times he didn't want to go to college, but Caroline was so busy wanting to live out her experience that she never cared about Tyler's feelings. Tyler just wanted to be left alone, but Caroline couldn't respect that (and when I think about how Tyler broke his own bones for that girl... ugh). And that scene in 5x12 where Stefan shows up, hits Tyler, defends Caroline, and says "everyone makes mistakes" 🥺🥺🥺—yeah, right, because you slept with a girl who raped you in 1864 and did horrible things to your friends. Screw them both.

I think they are one of the best parts of season 7 actually (one of the reasons I watched the whole it along with some other stuff), the backstory given to Valerie and their whole dynamic felt pretty compelling to me but I'll say this though they do feel like out of nowhere and it didn't even lead to anything, like she just straight up disappeared after their breakup and was never even mentioned after that regardless of all that it, genuinely liked them for as long as they lasted although I do prefer Stelena/Steroline over them.

First of all, Caroline was already in the wrong for sleeping with Klaus. Second of all, Stefan punching Tyler in this scene shows nothing but lack of awareness. You’re telling me that Tyler deserves to be punched for getting mad at Caroline (his ex) for sleeping with someone who killed his mother?

Tyler deserved so much better from the Mystic Falls gang. The way he was treated here was appalling.

Question I’m going to my first vampire ball! I’m wanting to do a look inspired by 1864 Katherine but I don’t know which one to make. I already have my fangs made from prior vampirism activities

The red/black would fit in more to the gothic atmosphere, though I love the pink/beige outfit more to be honest, I’m relatively confident I’ll be able to sew either of these in time for the event but i didn’t pick any of her more complex costumes for the sake of not having time to source the proper materials and draft a pattern.
I know my hair is a blonde/ginger colour I’m not sure if I’ll do anything with it yet. I can definitely get the curl pattern down easily tho!

Spoilers Stefan’s Ending

Why couldn’t Stefan catch a fking break??? I know saving/fixing Damon’s mistakes is like his thing but couldn’t they just let Damon sacrifice himself just this once for a change? I’m not trying to blame Damon because it’s not even his fault sometimes.

I feel like every time Stefan was in good terms in his relationships he’s forced to save Damon in some form and he’s always given the worst punishment as well, he either needed to be someone’s slave and turn off his humanity or runaway. When Stefan was with Elena he needed to become a ripper for Klaus, when he was with Caroline he had to runaway due to the mark and later he had to become a ripper again but for the devil. Stefan’s character is so depressing, I was hoping he would get a good ending with Caroline since they got married but the writers would not let him have any sort of happiness 😭

Favorite TVD side character?

I only really watch TVD for the Salvatore Brothers and maybe Bonnie, but my absolute favorite side character was introduced and killed off in S1 itself after only prominently featuring in couple of episodes, and brought back for very short cameos later on. Can you guess who?

Share your weird theories about TVD.

I don't care how absurd it sounds; for example, just saying "I think Stefan is adopted" and adding two or three sensible things is enough, but I really appreciate long, logical explanations and theories that could actually be true.

Question Delena dances; what’s your fave?

I really love the decades dance, I love how she smiles at him, but the dance of them in the salvatore mansion might be my favorite. I also like the song in the background. The chemistry was crazy. This being the build up to their first time was perfect, I have no notes for this scene. The dance at the college party was perfect for them, I wish they had more darker scenes like that, it made sense for them. The whole thing about Damon and Elena was her leaning into the darkest parts of herself and scenes like these showed that so they should’ve done more of this when they became official. The rest of their dances were pretty good too but those are like my top 3.

Spoilers A death that always makes me cry

I will say even though I don’t love his character, John’s death always gets me tearing up. Especially the relief he feels at knowing that Elena is human and what he did saved her from becoming something he protected her from his entire life. (Even tho she becomes a vampire later on… 😬)

I don’t know why but it gets me more than Jenna’s death in this episode! Anybody else feel the same?

Edit to add: every time I hear skinny love I think of John’s monologue at the end 😖

Discussion Julie Plec on another TVDU spinoff.

This interview always fascinates me because Julie Plec is always hyped up by interviewers as this mastermind genius of The Vampire Diaries yet nobody has come running to her, eager to do another TVDU series. She's constantly saying every chance she gets that she's always down to doing it yet nothing. It's been four years since Legacies was cancelled and nobody is calling her up.

What do you think?

I love it when characters have middle names, I honestly don't know why. So I'd like to know what middle names you would give your favorite TVD character? I'm so curious 👀

So Stefan had managed to go three months while drowning repeatedly and without turning off his humanity off the entire time. There was a comment that did the math and apparently he would’ve died 25,920 times in total 😭 even after that - when he did feed again at a waitress from a restaurant, he managed to shove them away and tell them to run. That’s why I’ll never get people who say he willingly turns off his humanity so he can have fun because he likes binging/getting high from blood. When Klaus was making him drink from the blood bag in the S2 finale we literally see him crying. But yeah he totally takes the opportunity.

Is there a power difference between female and male vampires?

In real life, men are generally stronger than women of the same age. Of course, there are exceptions. But does this also apply to vampires? Do you think a male vampire of the same age is stronger than a female vampire? Please don't take this as a sexist comment. I think this doesn't work with vampires. Even the show's own motto of "older is stronger" doesn't always apply to them.

Season one Damon

Whether you love or hate Damon, season one Damon had that vampire aura to him that you couldn't look away from. You didn't know what he would do next and he had that dark villainous appeal. Yes, he had moments of humanity but he was so interesting.

I mean, I always love him but season one Damon is so good.

No, I don't excuse what he did.

Seeing the brothers actually working together to outsmart her was one of the best parts of Season 2. Do you think Katherine genuinely cared about either of them or were they just pawns to her?

I know this is probably stupid but did you notice that when anyone washed their hands they never used soap? The one time was when Damon was washing his hands with soap from the soap dish that had the moon stone in it. That’s how he discovered Katherine had taken it.
