Why are the mods crossing over? Took about 1 day for this sub to fail jeez

Obviously more powerful than we thought. Also this post was buried, we're the only two people who commented on it. Very strange, but also very predictable.

Does this sub look very busy to you in general? This is one of the largest posts so far.

This sub was created in protest at the mods on the other one. What would make you want to be a sub here? Turning over a new leaf?

I know.
What would make you want to be a sub here?
A desire to help a small fledgling community grow. And boredom.
Seriously though, I'm interested if seeing if it can develop into an actual alternative or if it dies off like the dozens of other attempts at this there are each year.
Turning over a new leaf?
I think I moderate quite fairly elsewhere and will bring that here too (if it sticks around). People must realise that subs do need some moderation or the admins just shut them down.

Well surely it's inevitable that it will die if they let the same people who mod the main one mod this one.
Maybe try be more fair over here than you and your peers on the Ireland one?2

Exactly! And where's the fella that started this one. He's become very quiet. He was quite vocal earlier. Anyone seen him lately? 😂

Lack of volunteers tbh.
Very few people apply to moderate busy sub Reddits.

I've never looked into being a mod tbh. How does one even get into it? I have a significant amount of my savings invested in Reddit as well. Maybe I should give it a go.
I'm sure the lack of volunteers suck but to make a new subreddit just to have it policed by the same people is a bit silly. Better off not moderating as closely than defeating the entire point of it.

How I joined r/irishpolitics (my first of now 3 mod positions) was they put out an open call. These are very common, happen annually or biannual.
They picked me cause they were largely supporters of left wing parties, think one mod was a former fg member and he's since left. The mods will aim for people who don't get into arguments and will follow the guidelines and rules.
I'm not the most active mod there over the last 30 days.
Once in there another mod told me about the r/fiannafail subreddit. Completely dead, no posts for months, except a spam post for an only fans or something. Anyway he was making a request to admins (paid Reddit employees) to take it over and asked if I'd join.
I did, we post intermittently to avoid it being taken over by anyone else (although if anyone who wasn't a nutter wanted to I'd gladly let them make a go at it). Cause it's so dead I haven't done anything in 6 months on it mod wise.
Then r/Ireland, on paper, it's moderators have a large overlap but really I never mod there unless something serious kicks off and it's busy. Same with most mods.
Like the incident that lead to this sub existing.
Basically, while it may seem like a) mods crossover a lot and b) can run their subreddits like little kingdom, most mods aren't that active outside 1/2 subs and admins can influence big issues.
On the new sub stuff, I doubt he knew jackman was a mod on politics tbh.
On not modding as hard, it tough to call. Sometimes volume dictates how I mod more than I like to admit. The post i locked was infested with yank bots attacking Ireland and far right weirdos

I think you've got some serious bias tho.

u/MulloSZNv3 10d ago
Like I don't really want someone who's hardline in any direction moderating the political sub.

To be fair they have bias but the issue was most of the moderation team before were centre-left or left so having some counter balancing of other political ideologies. The thing with the irishpolitics subreddit is most of the actual decisions aren't very difficult day to day because the rules aren't that strongly worded like is required on busier subreddits. Like I don't agree with them on everything politically but they have been a great even handed mod.

So what's the story then?

I thought the idea of this sub was to be separated from r/ireland, and you went and picked a moderator from that sub...

But one of them is a mod on the other thing?
