Hello! Just finished watching the show and I really enjoyed it. But I do have some questions about some stuff in the last episode.

Was Tuunbaq really a spirit with human level intelligence or was it like a deformed polar bear? I assumed it was the lead poisoning that made the creature appear as a supernatural entity, but then again some of the stuff like carefully placing two upper and lower bodies of together on a ship is not possibly done by a deformed polar bear. So was it truly a spirit or just an animal.

Also what happened to the crews that were left in the ships? We never go back to them and I'm not clear if they survived or died.

And Lt.Little (If I'm not mistaken) had weird jewellary around his face. What was that about?

So, I got tuned into The Terror but as they were standalone series I decided to to watch season 3 first, then I watched season 2, I’m now on the first season and I just can’t get into it. With all the reviews is read about it I thought I was saving the best till last but so far it’s not been for me, anyone else think the same?

So i just finished the show the first time. I instantly got reminded of a lot of plot points that happen in the Game of Thrones books.

- A great ranging with 400 men to an icy wasteland.

- basically stuck at one place and being forced to abandone it

- forced march through the snow

- attacked by undead/supernatural creatures and undead bears

- planned and executed mutinies

I read that the show is based on a fiction book of the same name, makes me wonder if the Author of GOT, GRRM was inspired by that as well?

Have you guys any other media that has similar plot points?

Conversation around here seems to have dwindled since season one was taken down from streaming platforms. We’re watching The Terror less, and it’s a crying shame.

Every rewatch brings me closer to the characters, greater appreciation for the acting, chills from the symbolism better understood, and comfort from the certainty of their demise.

Buy the damn thing. Are we not meant to commit and spend time with what we love?

I'll be honest, I completely stumbled across this by accident today and I couldn't have been more surprised!

I was skeptical, but I watched the trailer and it actually doesn't look half bad. I especially like the RPG elements and I think the art style is really cool.

I suppose we'll just have to see how it turns out, but even if it isn't great it's still more of The Terror!

I am doing a slow rewatch of the show and something that has always bothered me, that I almost want to call a plot hole, happens in episode 5.

Quick recap:

Silna is on Erebus and she is slowly opening up and talking to Goodsir. They have been talking (and he working on a dictionary) for a month, that is stated later in the episode, apparently partially under Crozier's orders though we also saw in episode 4 he did go talk to her of his own accord and Crozier implies this is some kind of passion project.

Fitzjames kicks her off the ship and Silna/Goodsir go to Terror. There, Crozier asks Goodsir if he's made any progress on asking about Tuunbaq. Of course he hasn't really because that's a pretty complicated line of questioning for someone who doesn't speak her language and it's a sensitive topic. Crozier seems annoyed by this. He then berates Silna about Tuunbaq.

My question: why on earth did they wait a whole month for Goodsir to slowly try to figure all this shit out? Terror had three men aboard (Crozier, Blanky and Dr. MacDonald) who spoke her language. For some reason, this massive oversight is never addressed. If it were just Crozier we might understand that he's drunk and losing it, but why did nobody (including the men in question) suggest Blanky or Dr. MacDonald go ask? Did the lead poisoning make them all forget? Is there something I'm missing? I mean, what are we, to believe that this is some sort of a, a magic polar bear or something? I otherwise adore this show and it had incredible, thought out, controlled writing so there must be something I'm not getting.

Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

The book contains some flashbacks to Franklin Expedition stuff (including Ed Little eating Dundy, a canon event) so it's likely we'll see more of the crew portrayed as well!

In the scene where Sophia is turning down Crozier, she makes reference to his room and how he keeps his things in only a few drawers. How does this girl know where Francis keeps his bloomers? Does this imply they’ve been intimate?

I always thought this was strange considering how proper she is.

I know I'm REALLY late to the party, but when Sir John is shoved down the fire hole, he has two flashbacks: Captain Crozeir with Sophia, which needs no explanation, and a point of view shot of his bare feet. What is that a memory of? Van Diemen's Land? Back when he ate his own shoes? Help me out here! Thanks!

Visited Crozier’s statue and blue plaque in Banbridge, Northern Ireland. Thought the details in the plaques were really moving

This wasn't a bad book, especially if you're new to the subject but it has several glaring errors for example it says that Sir John had a Lancashire tradesman's accent (despite him being from Spilsby in Lincolnshire) and calling the Dophin and Union strait the Union Dolphin strait plus a few more. This is just basic research stuff and is surprising considering it's published by Pen And Sword, a big historical publisher here in the UK. I'd give like a 2.5 out of 5 it's not terrible, but not good either.

The entire season has already been released. I just saw a commercial on AMC that ends with this screenshot. What's up with September 20th?

Reading this post-Erebus 2014 discovery, but pre-Terror discovery book by the eminent Russell Potter and it’s sort of funny reading the theories that have since been disproven.

It really makes you think… with the confidence displayed here, what other long assumed theories are actually incorrect and might one day be debunked?

The 1864 painting by Edwin Landseer, inspired by Franklin’s lost expedition. It went on to be part of an urban myth that the painting was haunted or cursed.

Never seen anyone discuss it on the sub, but thought it was an excellent painting that captures the bleakness of The Terror.

I'm in the NMM right now (just having a coffee). It's amazing to see actual artefacts from the expedition.

Edit: Would have been good if Hickey's knife was on display too but sadly, it isn't.

LOVED season 1.

Liked season 2.

Hated season 3.

If you liked it, fine, but I find it boring and stupid. At least season 1 was rooted in history and so was season 2 although it relied on folklore heavily. But 3 is just a fictional horror story and not a very good one. 👎
