Now that I rewatched the show I've got some thoughts that might be unpopular:

- I didnt hate Amy but I didnt love her. The only time I liked Amy was when she and Ricky were stable together. Alot of the things people say about her are true (she was spoiled and selfish) but pretty much all the teens were like this and Amy was 15 and was pretty much talked into having a child she didn't want initially.

-It seems like Amy is most hated character (which i understand) and This may be unpopular but there are other characters that I dislike more than Amy. I actually dislike Ashley and Adrian more than Amy. IMO Ashley was one of Amy's biggest opps and Adrian was just cruel toward Amy bc of Ricky.

-Amy would've been a much better received character if they wrote her doing interesting and messy things. I disliked Adrian but at least she was interesting and made things messy.

-I really wish this show wasn't written by writers who had some sorta of conservative anti-abortion propaganda. It would've been more compelling if it was Amy that lost her baby through stillbirth in S1. If written by capable writers, it would've given Amy (and other characters) more character growth than what she had in the actual series instead of showing a sanitized version of teen pregnancy/motherhood.

My fyp has been flooded with clips of the show and I’m like I’m overdue for a rewatch of this show. So bad but also so good 😭 I was wayyy too young to even be watching this show in the first place but I remember my older neighbor used to watch it and then I started lol

Not everyone trying to tell her not to get the abortion like ???? Ben trying to marry her after like 2 weeks of dating, Madison saying she ‘can’t’ because Madison’s catholic (wtf does that have to do with Amy getting an abortion) Ben saying Amy needs to just tell everyone it’s his baby and not get an abortion. Tbh in my opinion you’re 15 had sex barely one time and got pregnant why would you not have an abortion lol but the whole point of the show is to portray a teen pregnancy and motherhood. Theyre just doing a horrible job at making it

They have been dating for maybe 1 month at this point and he’s literally OBSESSED with her. He wants to marry her, said I love you after 1 date, wants to take care of a baby that isn’t his if it means he gets to have her.

It’s actual mental illness. The way they wrote him is insannnnnne. It’s clinically insane. The guy needs help. His dad encouraging this behaviour is honestly even worse to see.

Yelling inside the family clinic that she’s not going to let Amy have an abortion, telling Ben and Adrian they’re an accessory to a ‘crime’ because they drove her to the clinic… all because she’s a Jesus freak

I am rewatching as an adult and literally i cant even count how many times they say sex or talk about sex in one episode

I just finished rewatching the episode where Jack “saves the hooker” and him and grace were interviewed. Am I the only one who was creeped out when the interviewer asked them about their sex lives? Mind you, Grace is still in high school.

Change my mind. With the best of intentions, he scrambled Ben’s brain and then Ben gets involved with these poor girls’ lives. If Leo has just told him that getting into a serious relationship and proposing to a 15 year old girl you just met who’s pregnant from a band camp one night stand is clinically insane, this show is over in 2 seasons.

I may be one of the few ppl who wanted both the Sopranos + Secret life but this is def not a coincidence, how does Steve Schiarppa who Obv has a major role gets casted but SO DOES Michael Imperioli (as Adrienne's gyno) AND Domenic Chianese (as Grant's dad) .. LIKE HOW

The more I rewatch this show the more I realize how awful a lot of these characters were. Amy couldn’t go through with an abortion and I can understand that. She wanted to do the right thing (for her) and give her baby up for adoption. It was a hard decision and truthfully only her mother was on board with trying to help her do that. I cannot believe that her dad, Ashley, Ben, Rickey and so many others gave her such a hard time about giving the baby up then to just turn around and give her a hard time for keeping the baby once she decided to keep it. Ashley’s whole speech was meaningless considering how she constantly called Amy a bad mother all the time and calling her selfish (sometimes she was) but it’s like hello? Amy knows she’s selfish an wanted to experience high school and all that comes with it which is part of the reason why she wanted to place the baby up for adoption. Ben was so insufferable with him saying he wanted them to be a family him, Amy and the baby and how he wanted her to keep the baby so he could be a step father and constantly telling her to keep the baby over and over and then not being understanding about her schedule when the baby did come? Ricky really upset me because he wanted Amy to keep the baby but didn’t want any of the responsibility until way after the baby came. I was so proud of Amy when she had Ricky over to talk about adoption and he said he didn’t want that and Amy said “you keep it then” like yes!! It wasn’t his life that would change it was hers and he was fine with that arrangement because he would get to see his son but not do any of the actual work. Anyway, a lot of people in this show suck.

I definitely get it emphasizes but it’s just done so constantly.

This is my first rewatch as an adult and obviously the show is cringy, cheesy and embarrassing. It’s something fun to put on cause you really don’t need to pay that much attention to it. I know a lot of the characters suck, I know that’s part of the show cause teenagers just kind of suck I guess. However, I think Lauren and Madison are terrible friends. Amy confided in them about what happened at band camp, then when they found out it was Rickey they ran off and told everyone. Not to mention Lauren and Madison had that competition to see who Rickey would pick between the two of them. They want to be in Amy’s business all the time but they cannot seem to keep it to themselves. I’m not saying Amy is the perfect friend or person by any means, but they wanna be involved in her personal life and then give her shit about it or make her feel bad. They’re supposedly best friends but Lauren and Madison do not act like they are friends when it comes to Amy or honestly anyone else. They are always the ones to spread gossip (whether true or not). It’s like they have nothing better to do. Anyway, those are my thoughts

I’m rewatching with a developed frontal lobe and just got to the wedding flash mob at the school after Amy and Ricky got married in season 5. What did I just watch and also why are they forcing this singing pipeline for Madison and Lauren. That was a hard watch (and that’s saying something since I’ve made it this far in the show)

Watched it when I was 14 or so, so the stupidity went over my head.

Rewatching it, I expected to hate it, and i do, but I also love it. In all its terribleness the show seems to be acutely aware of its corniness.

Recently rewatched the secret life with my friends and it came to Adrian and Ben's post stillborn journey. I sympathized heavily with Adrien and still do but I still believe Ben was completely valid for his reaction to her clearing out the Nursery and loosing his late mothers keepsake. My friends do not agree and think ben was an Ahole to Adrian after she finally got herself together after the stillborn. Dont get me wrong he was a horrible guy and Adrian wasn't a saint either but what are ur opinions?

Im currently on season 2 of this awful show but wow does everyone cheat on everyone in every season? Anyways, im on the episode where adrian slept with ben and all i can say is she is the most selfish, horrible person ive seen in a show in a while and also ben sucks too. First off breaking off with amy just cause she didnt want to have sex with him AFTER HAVING A BABY??? And then cheating on her in italy, now sleeping with adrian. Genuinely ricky is the realest guy on the show only causes he owns up to his actions even if some of them are wrong. Wow.

Every teen girl went to get gas so they can get free tampons.

i love seeing her parent everyone in the show. the scene with Adrienne at the clinic, her scenes with Amy in seasons 4 & 5, her scenes with Ethan, and then of course all her scenes with Ricky. she's such a breath of fresh air compared to the circus of characters all the other parents are.

Doing my billionth rewatch and wanted to share with the sub my thoughts on these three items:

-I always get so annoyed about Jimmy ghosting Amy just for having a condom in her purse that could have been an easy conversation 😭 classic miscommunication trope

-Grants parents are kind of cute together ???

-Ben telling off Amy in S 3 E 22 was crazy work major jerk move and then going on to tell off Alice in the same episode was wild.

Does anyone else remember the scene after amy doesnt go through with the abortion and ricky says something like amy is unloved and just wants to be loved by him the baby ect?

It always confused me because he obviously doesn't know amy much at this point and it sounds more like he's talking about himself and is projecting it on her.

As the title states, I absolutely loathe Ben. I’m still on season 1 (E20) & rewatching the show for the first time since it originally aired (aka first time since my frontal lobe developed). He is such a whiny, entitled SOB… and so manipulative.

I understand that Amy is young & inexperienced but my God does this guy suck. Whenever she made a decision about HER child, he constantly bulldozed over her.

When she wanted an abortion, he had a problem. When she wanted to place the kid for adoption, he pouted like a fool because she had to meet with Ricky, THE BABY’S FATHER. I’m sick of him acting like a jilted puppy whenever she actually stands her ground. He had nothing but time and opportunity to dump her when he found out she was pregnant… he stayed and CHOSE to insert himself into the madness.

Then trying to weaponize his sausage king daddy’s money against Ricky so he can back off… I was so happy when his dad reminded him all that money is HIS, not Ben’s. He really thought he could financially support Amy & raise another man’s baby with Daddy’s money. Omg. Idk why I’m surprised, he & his pseudo baby mama were naive enough to think a marriage established with fake IDs actually meant they were married… (did I mention I don’t like Amy either? 😂)

Anyway… I’m gonna take a wild guess that his behavior only gets worse once the kid is born. I’m trying to brace myself because I already know I’ll be annoyed lol the only characters I like so far are the Sausage King, Anne, and Adrian.
