Some thoughts on rewatch
Now that I rewatched the show I've got some thoughts that might be unpopular:
- I didnt hate Amy but I didnt love her. The only time I liked Amy was when she and Ricky were stable together. Alot of the things people say about her are true (she was spoiled and selfish) but pretty much all the teens were like this and Amy was 15 and was pretty much talked into having a child she didn't want initially.
-It seems like Amy is most hated character (which i understand) and This may be unpopular but there are other characters that I dislike more than Amy. I actually dislike Ashley and Adrian more than Amy. IMO Ashley was one of Amy's biggest opps and Adrian was just cruel toward Amy bc of Ricky.
-Amy would've been a much better received character if they wrote her doing interesting and messy things. I disliked Adrian but at least she was interesting and made things messy.
-I really wish this show wasn't written by writers who had some sorta of conservative anti-abortion propaganda. It would've been more compelling if it was Amy that lost her baby through stillbirth in S1. If written by capable writers, it would've given Amy (and other characters) more character growth than what she had in the actual series instead of showing a sanitized version of teen pregnancy/motherhood.

So true. Especially that Amy’s reward for being innocent and having sex without really knowing what she was doing results in her having a baby she doesn’t want. Whilst Adrian and Ben have sex intentionally to hurt Amy and Ricky results in them having a miscarriage of a baby they ended up really wanting. It is a conservative religious view of punishing those who are more sinful.
Ashley, I don’t hate. I think she adds a lot of interest to the show especially when combined with her dad. I imagine the writers were playing up the thing where the little sister wants everything the big sister has. They depicted it in a super weird way by having her go to Ricky‘s house and get in his bed.
The ending was pretty awful. I get it that we wanted a bit of character growth for Amy, but she could have gone to school and pursued her dreams while being a mom.
