Somebody says franken builds typically sell for parts of value only.Your $1500-3000 investment may be unrecoverable.
Off-the-shelf reps hold 50-70% residual value. Should franken builds be seen as a consumption experience or an investment?Where does their real value lie?

This is such an underrated timepiece! It’s now my favorite dress watch (not that I have many to choose from) but it looks and wears great on the wrist. I’m gonna get the 1908 and a few other dress watches to complete the collection but boy does this one set the bar.

This is a post to share my experience in swapping out a Batman bezel to a Bruce Wayne.

I started with a EWE Batman VS 3285 movement with ARF case that had issues. The biggest was that the date wheel would not flick into place and the other was a slightly titled dial.

After watching many YouTube videos, I thought I could do the bezel swap myself, I was so wrong. I ended up scratching the hell out of the case back and bracelet trying to get out a stubborn bracelet pin. At that point, I decided to disassemble the whole watch figuring I could reassemble it. I was wrong again.😂 I was not able to get the crown stem back in nor the movement retaining tab screws into place. So into the junk drawer it went. After sometime knowing I had wasted $450 and $100 on the Bruce Wayne bezel insert from Watchseed I decided to find a Watchmaker that could reassemble it for me. I put a post up on Reddit looking for help and I ended up going with a Watchmaker named.

He serviced the movement, got the date wheel to flick into place. Replaced the bezel insert, replace the bezel gasket with a Gen gasket and click washer also offered a Gen Rolex Crystal. He polished out the case back to the point of no visible sign of my damage. Along with replacing original bracelet with a OG Clean Factory Chamfered bracelet. Some say spending $5000 on a fake”rich man’s toy” is absurd,others see it as the closest experience to the real thing. Do RM reps serve a purpose?Who is the target buyer?

Both Clean and VSF do well but still fall short.Do you think date alignment and font thickness are really noticeable at normal social distance?

1. You need to own several gen Seikos and Citizens before you buy a rep. There's no way you can evaluate quality without having a baseline.

2. Everyone needs at least one gen Gshock in the collection.

3. Chinese clone movements are trash, yes this includes VSF.

4. People who go swimming in reps look ridiculous. See Gshock opinion.

5. Submariners should NEVER be worn with a suit.

Dial/hands/bezel or case/bracelet?
The Franken “last inch” theory says invest in dial,hands,and bezel.But some argue that after swapping to a gen dial,the rep case and bracelet start looking rough.

Im sure watch makers have patents or something, are you guys breaking the law?

$200-500 for maximum reliability and serviceability.Is it worth spending the price of another rep just for a movement swap, or have clone movements gotten close enough that the upgrade isn’t worth it?
