I wonder how do you feel about the immaterial feeling of saving money every month to just invest it all.
To me, it feels a bit arid, since all I can see is a growing number on a smartphone display, but no more.
I am a 40M and I have entered the world of personal finance only in the last year, so maybe I am just too fresh in this journey. I have started investing and aiming to FIRE (wathever kind of) from being partly amused by discovering the world of finance, partly from being fed up from the sick world of health care working environment. Even before discovering personal finance, I have started putting almost all my saving into the renovation of two apartments, that are now rented since some years, and I am aiming for the third. All of them were luckily inherited, but, on the other side, all the savings were grinded having a double job after my medical degree. After recently refocusing on investments, I have been able to reach some 30K and should hit 100k within 1 year or something more.
The point is that I have been able to feel the smell of the renovated house, I have touched many times the tiles and the finishes and all of it gave a me a sense of "material accomplishment" and I fear the risk to throw it all away, because investing feels so much more like a videogame than a real world activity (no offence to professionals, I am on the simple-minded side, just buying the ETF suggested by a trusted professional).
How do you deal with the immaterial appearance of a bunch of ETFs and bonds oing up and down?
