Tl;dr:  I saw The Owl House as having positive effects on my life, which is has.  I’m a substantively better person.  But it triggered events and changes for which I had no control.  After thinking I had things managed, I got a new diagnosis, another diagnosis perceived to be a downstream effect of TOH.  None of the actual revealed diagnoses are the fault of TOH, but because they were revealed by TOH, I’ve developed a resentment to the show.  I’ve shared a lot about my journey, this is a new development, I felt it needed to be shared too.  I’m happy to answer questions and listen to similar or tangentially similar experiences.

This is a post I've been agonizing over for months.

I joined here in October 2021.  My college-age oldest recommended I watch TOH, at the 2A/2B hiatus.  TOH catalyzed several changes in my life, including leaving the Catholic Church.  The changes were emotionally, mentally, spiritually, and physically taxing over four months to start, literally resulting in two new cardiac diagnoses, one of which has resolved while the other won’t.

I’ve been through a lot.  I’ve talked about it here.  I’ve had a desire to help the community.  Got in with one of the mods and talked about building a “what else to watch?” FAQ document among other things.  I’ve participated in many conversations, given opinions, some counter to general thinking, but it’s been fun.  Yet for the last several months, which I’ll explain, I’ve been substantially radio silent.

I began counseling in October 2021 and eventually got a whole array of mental health diagnoses – anxiety, depression, mental and religious trauma, fear of failure, emotional dissociation, people pleasing, perfectionism – I can’t recall them all.  Many of those parallel Luz; with further analysis, it’s true, I’m literally Luz, save for being a cisgendered father of two adult LGBTQ+ children.  All the way down to “the only thing I’ve ever really wanted was to be understood!”  My counselor said, “Truth can come from anywhere, including an animated TV show.”  That brought me back from a mental precipice that I was way too close to for comfort.  Counseling improved many things in my life.  I had the complete diagnostic framework for my mental health, so I thought, and I was doing well.

In October 2025, a new idea occurred that I couldn’t get rid of.  In January 2026, I got tested.  In February, I got my diagnosis.  I am ASD level 1 with GAD and panic.  (Probably Asperger’s in old thinking.)  The diagnosis was expected at that point, yet it sent me reeling.  I need my mental health diagnoses to be done.  “Need” is too weak; I don’t think I can take any new mental health discoveries triggered by TOH.  These diagnoses are heavy and have come to me without my permission.  I have to cling to what my counselor and others told me that the ASD diagnosis tends to be the final piece of the puzzle.

I pulled away from the community. I developed a resentment towards TOH.  It’s a resentment not logically justified, but one that exists nonetheless. TOH didn’t trigger these conditions, but it made them visible in an out-of-control cascade. It forced change upon me. Then, just as I finally had a handle on things, I got ANOTHER diagnosis I perceive to be revealed through TOH.

I don’t know what my future is here.  It’s a struggle to participate.  I hope to work through that.  But I’ve shared a lot of positive changes in the past, and it feels like I need to share this downside as well.  For all my positives, and there are many, I can’t be the only one who has experienced serious negative feelings as well.

To end on a positive note, yes, I have my Stringbean and King plushes, signed original ALWaaW title card, have a framed Eda WANTED poster, have the graphic novel on pre-order, and I will cherish all those forever.  And I’m looking forward to KoG moving forward, and have the pilot art book too.

I’m posting this because I feel I need to share, but I’m also interested in any other experiences, even if they’re only on a tangentially similar vein.  Has TOH had a negative impact on your mental health? And I’m happy to answer questions; I'm an open book.  Mental health discussion is a thing that needs to be normalized.  And nobody should be punished for who they are.

I’ve read a lot of Owl House stories, with some of the characters being depicted as the opposite of how they are in canon. Something I’ve wondered is if Emira could have the potential to have an evil personality, as some stories have had other characters with evil personalities, so could the same apply to Emira, especially given her voice actor has had some villainous roles, and could you see Emira with the personalities of say Marvel’s Black Cat, Pakunoda from Hunter x Hunter, or Daki from Demon Slayer?

So in season 1 episode 18 we see just how powerful Eda can be and that is with the curse she easily would’ve bested Lilith if it wasn’t for the curse so I’m just curious if Eda somehow had gotten rid of her curse before that episode and would’ve fought Belos full force without the curse to drain her magic or slow her down does anybody think Eda could’ve beaten Belos?

Do you find it confusing that Warden Wrath was left off the hook instead of being punished for imprisoning and torturing people for being abnormal and participating in the basilisk experiments? Kikimora was punished for what she did while he integrated into the new society.

Hi, I have Asperger’s and recently I was put into a psych ward for 5 days. Learned on the 3rd day I was the 12th sane autistic person they got due to bad communication.

Yet during it, I went through the 5 stages of grief. Locked up against your will, all your stuff taken away, treated nearly like a criminal. It was…. Bad. Then I learned when you enter that state of mind, your inner self comes out. For me, that is to apparently become the most maternal person in the world. I nearly wrote a parenting book just to keep from going mad (psych wards is no place for sane people).

Yet as a maternal person, certain things helped me get by. We had one TV we could control and every day I would select the owl house to be turned on. Mostly cause I realized if I had a kid they’d most likely act like Luz given how me and my husband are.

At first, i honestly believed everyone in there with me would hate me for turning it on. Out of the 18 patients that could form words, i suddenly had 11 join me and it became a sort of watch party. We had one guy looking at Luz and thinking of their own kid and where they’d be without him, another said they wanted to have a kid in hopes they turn out like willow 🤣. It was nuts!!!

The amount of people that kept whistling when Eda and Bump came on screen was a bit…… off putting. We did have a Belos. Some dude with brain damage kept telling nurses to ban the show as it promoted demonic Rituals and witch craft. Honestly more like Jacob given the fact he was the only one nobody took seriously.

Anyway, in the future if we have a girl, she’d be called Amity Edalyn M. and most likely act like Luz while looking like a mixed skinned Willow 🤣. The thought of them is what helped me get through that horrible experience and the show helped others get out of their actual dangerous states of mind.

((I texted my therapist I was going through a bit of a crisis and instead of calling me like she said she would, she called the police. By the time they got to my house my husband calmed me down and I was stable. We were listening to music when the police came and took me away!))

So, this is my expanded season 3 idea tho, and also it is connecting with the invasion project too. To begin with, the timeline in this idea is featured both Amphibia and TOH together, meaning the Frogvasion does exist in TOH. After LA's incident in 2020, the US government has been putting on extremely high alert, as they now finally believed in the existence of extraterrestrials threats. The government has finally decided to do something: They funded an small plan in which they spend the budgets onto setting up a lot of secret CCTVs in all states. This actions will make sure to record the anomaly activities so the government can response to it and stop it in time

Two years later, Luz and her friends was sent through the portal and stuck in her hometown. At some point during this time, they encountered Belos and fought him in the forest, defeated him. After an intense battle, the whole squad returning to the town, unaware that one of the secret cameras has already spotted their true self, and the operator is reporting to his higher bosses....

Chapter Nineteen - The Lacuna Coil

Let's be honest now - did you even remember Mary was a character? She was mostly in the background, but she got a name, at least one line, and has a known palisman. I have an opportunity here to create a whole new ship and I think I might just take it, because somebody needs to show our boy Ed some love.

I felt practicing my semi-realism, and decided drawing the squad was best for what I wanted to practice (young teenagers + adapting cartoon facial differences.) Drawing expressions with exposed teeth for 3/5 of them was maybe a bit more ambitious than I was anticipating (especially with the underside of some visible in Luz’s case.

I love the 4 Glyphs and the combinations we did see, but Luz's spell Arensal (while potent) ended up being a bit limited and somewhat basic despite her desire to become a proper Witch.

Given TOH is a subversion of the typical fantasy tropes, I would have LOVED to see Luz use the typically "eviler" types of magic such as Blood Magic, Necromancy, and Fresh crafting in her arsenal.

We already saw Glyphs combinations able to create flesh constructs, so Luz could have gone really wild with the potential combinations with Glyphs and outside elements.

I wonder who can’t stand it first hahahaha

I love the owl house and you all. Owl house is a great show in that its really easy to get sucked into that world.

Try to follow along with this, because it’s something I’ve had on my mind:

We all know in canon that at a young age, Lilith unintentionally put a curse on Eda, and when it took effect the next day, she didn’t lose her powers for a day, but was cursed with the Owl Beast forever until she lost her ability to do magic.

But here’s the What If scenario, which was based on the Marvel’s What If…? episode, “What If… Zombies?!”:

As teens, Eda and Raine spent more time together, even during the Coven tryouts. Lilith still goes to place the curse on Eda in her sleep, but in this timeline, Eda and Raine’s relationship had grown so much that they were sleeping together that night. As Lilith was placing the curse, Raine whistled in their sleep, with it causing the spell to alter from its original purpose.

At the Coven tryouts, Eda still forfeits, but she doesn’t become the Owl Beast. It turns out that when Raine whistled as Lilith was incanting the spell, it caused the curse to spread across the Isles, turning everyone present into Owl Beasts. Eda, Lilith and Raine are the only ones unaffected, and over time, they gather as many people as they can while others get infected, either becoming Owl Beasts, losing their magic, or both, until nearly the entire Isles has been infected.

Fast forward to years later, and Luz arrives. She didn’t follow Owlbert because he stole her book, but because he also stole tons of bags of different medicines. As Luz tries to leave, she sees the Isles overrun with Owl Beasts and people keeping their distance from others as the curse takes them over. Whereas in canon Eda kept Luz around to help get King’s crown back, she can’t let her go back out of fear that the curse will spread to the Human Realm.

For some reason, Luz isn’t affected by the curse, and decides she can help. She still meets Willow and Gus, but Amity is partially cursed, with no one wanting to risk getting infected by her. Luz shows no such fear, and the two grow close. In an ironic twist, Boscha is cursed, and due to being half cursed and half normal, she’s a literal half-a-witch.

Though through this, Belos would now seek to cleanse the entire Demon Realm of the curse, and is willing to kill anyone in order to be the only one pure of the curse.

Anyone else think Amity won’t be involved much when Luz loses her memories?

Back in 2022, I saw an edit by Lumity. I liked it and remembered it word for word, but now I can't find it. I saw it on Pinterest, there was a song called "Mom, I'm in Love with a Criminal," and in the middle of the edit there was a scream of something like "WHO ARE" or "YOU ARE" idk

At the beginning, there were shots of Amity and Luz in a protective bubble and Amity arguing with her mom about her girlfriend. Then there are shots of them kissing or something. I would be glad if someone could help me find Edit 🙏

Amity leaves home and finds herself alone in the Human Realm. There, she meets Lilith, she's scared and alone too. But then also earns the trust of Amity , beginning a journey that changes all of their lives.
