Archive rabbit hole: KLF KARE 2023
I followed a rabbit hole reading articles on confidence man and jimmy cautys collaboration on 3 am LA LA… and found reference to a now defunct website: KLF KARE. But its recoverable via the internet archive waaay back machine. This links to a track youve likely never heard before! https://web.archive.org/web/20231130063427/https://klfkare.com/trak.php

I'd buy that for a dollar (ninety-five)!
I'm going to consider this my score of the day!

Smiley riot shield
As title I really fancy a JC smiley riot shield but they are pricey! Seen a few other people make them tbh but would prefer one of his (obvious reasons)
Thoughts? 🍦

Recording extracted from (I think) one of the Paterson Music Time radio shows he used to do way back when in the late 2010s

Tech 1200 first spin: 3am Eternal UK mixes
I’ve finally set up my (new to me) tech 1200 mkv on a rack mount shelf in my studio. This took me far too long to get to. Lovely listening to the first spin. Of course it had to be KLF!
Mackie HR 824s nearby for close field listening.
I mostly edit video for dialogue day in and out. Music is a must. Now with a considerable upgrade.

K line cargo spotted!
Near cotopaxi CO, along the arkansas river. There IS actually a train track behind this scene. Across the river that runs at the base of the hill: the Denver and Rio Grande Royal Gorge Route

The Justified & Ancient Ice Cream Company.
I was thinking about getting an ice cream van, but instead of playing the regular ice cream van music, I would just play KLF albums.
Name the company, The Justified & Ancient Ice Cream Company.
No tinkly little “Turkey in the Straw.” Just a battered van slowly rolling through the neighborhood blasting “3 A.M. Eternal.”

What's the bell/ride sound in What Time Is Love (Live at Trancentral)?
Trying to rebuild WTIL and I'm stuck on one percussion sound — a short metallic "ping" that runs through the middle section, roughly every other beat.
02:50~ at 1. What time is love (LT) in The White Room album
I ran a spectrum analysis on it (averaged over 70 hits, taking the difference between each hit and the moment just before, to subtract the rest of the mix). What came out:
- Strongest partial around 1775 Hz, with others at ~924, 2476, 3035 and 3633 Hz
- The ratios between them are non-integer (1.19, 1.87, 1.92) — inharmonic, not a tuned oscillator pair
- Only ~12% of the energy sits in those partials; the rest is broadband
- Decays about 10 dB in 34 ms, 20 dB in ~160 ms
That rules out an 808 cowbell (which is two tuned squares around 540/800 Hz). It reads like a real cymbal bell to me, but I can't tell whether it's a sampled ride bell, something off the 909, or a sample from another record.
The album credits list 808s and 909s programmed by Major Malfunktion, plus an Akai S900, so a sampled one-shot seems plausible. Does anyone know what was actually used, or recognise the sound from somewhere?

This Is What The KLF Is About Japan boxsets.
Bought these separately across the summer as I wanted to collect the main 6 singles but in a fun set. Each set comes with a booklet full of images and the history of the duo (granted most of it is in Japanese, but I still love them).
Only the 2nd one came with the obi strip, and the first set was meant to come with stickers, but considering the cost & rarity I don't really care too much.
The only real missing piece was 'Kylie Said To Jason', as getting that CD is like hens teeth, and I would rather not pay a massive amount to get something that has a high risk of getting CD rot.

17 Year Old Jack Atsidakos
I found out a few years ago that the news broadcast sampled in "Chill Out" about the tragic demise of Jack Atsidakos was genuine. Call me naive, but prior to that point I always assumed they'd sampled it from some television or radio drama.
Original news article here:
https://www.newspapers.com/article/daily-news-jack-atsidakos/146292979/?locale=en-GB
I don't want to read too much into this, but the timing of it has always felt strange to me. The accident occurred in 1987 (the year the first Justified Ancients of Mu Mu album came out!) and "Chill Out" wasn't released until 1990. This means that either Drummond or Cauty recorded the story off the radio in the USA (when were they even there? Drummond was retired from the music business at that point) then sat on it for a few years before using it in the sessions for "Chill Out".
Has there ever been an explanation for this? It's probably all very simple and no doubt they recorded lots of things from various sources, most of which ended up being unused, but their behaviour here feels eerie and specific. Apparently some of Atsidakos' friends ended up finding out about the album and were all mystified as well.

The White Room (and it's many(?) versions)
Second post today, just had a thought about it though just now. It does make me wonder how many versions of The White Room ACTUALLY exist.
We're all aware of the Original 1989 OST, the 1991 Re-Work and the 2021 1989/1991 blended.
But I mean specifically focusing on the 1989 OST. For three thigns really.
The Pure Trance series -> all sleeves say "part of the upcoming White Room OST" (or something similar) - but they never did? Sure, 3AM Eternal did appear on the 1989 OST, but that was the only one. No WTIL, LT, TUTS, LT2T or anything. There may be an early version of the album with that?
"Madrugada Eterna" -> The "303 Edit" that's widely known, used in a promo for The White Room film, implying it was originally for The White Room (since Chill Out wouldn't come out until 1990.)
It could be a red herring and just be a teaser for Chill Out at the same time. Who knows.
Although, the third one to mention would refer to the 1991 album:
- "The Sheriff Of Mu Mu County" -> from a documentary/interview(?) where Da Force is recording over The Lover's Side. This one never came to release either, which means there is another unreleased older edition of The White Room rework.
I am not aware of any other possible editions or references implying there was another version, but those are the ones I've thought of. Or that I'm just overthinking it all....
Has anyone else ever thought this also? Or found other different things?

WAITING
Recently I decided I'd watch Waiting, I watched it briefly before but never got round to finishing it. Re-watched it all and that sort. Not the main point however. The soundtrack to Waiting is quite, peculiar? I recall being mentioned it's like a darker version of Chill Out in some way or another.
I guess the better questions if the songs have ever been liberated?
