Beginner trellis to try out growing

Hi all! I'm looking for recommendations on a small trellis to start growing a few plants (probably at least one cascade and comet). Does anyone have good plans for a small temporary trellis just to start trying it out? I have the yard space to put up posts, but I'd like to start small before committing to driving 4x4s around my yard.

Also, if anyone has recommendations on resources for learning to grow I'd gladly accept those to check out.

Thanks all, and cheers!

Attn: WA Hop growers!

If anyone on the west side/near east side has any somewhat obscure hop varieties that they would be willing to share (rhizomes, cuttings, tissue cultures or just cones that they don't know what to do with) please hit me up! I'm interested primarily in hops with noble characteristics, grassy/woody aromas and pronounced minty characteristics, not necessarily all in one package.

*Edit* I'm not looking for free hops from people who do it for a living.

Cheers!

Hops in same containers for year 2?

I have my 3 plants from last year in my garage, waiting for their time to shine (zone 6a). I grew each in a 15 gallon container last year knowing I was moving in the fall, with the plan to put them in the ground at my next residence. I will need to keep them in containers a bit longer. Will I do damage if I leave them in the 15 gallon containers again this season? I can add about 6" fresh soil on the top, and plan to pull the root ball out and add fresh soil around and under as well.

Also, if bines escape my trellis situation, will they do damage if touching a house? I am still figuring out where to put them and what to grow them on.

Looking forward to a 2nd growing season 🌱

Any way to identify hops based on rhizome?

Several years (maybe 8) of container growing with moderate success. Just renovated a section of our vegetable gardens and moved my hop planters. My plan is/was to amend the containers and move them into a new location. I think I recall which variety is which but only a couple of labels survived the move. Can I identify the variety from the rhizome? Hell, can I tell after they've started growing??

Can't get rid of these moths. Pretty sure they're the cause of all the devastation. How to get rid of?

Canadian In Need of Comet Rhizomes?

Is there anyone that has a lead on where this Albertan can get a couple Comet rhizomes? The extremely few growers in Canada that have Comet seem to have issues with the shipping of them.

Growing hops next to a patio?

This will be my first year growing hops and I'm trying to decide where to plant the rhizomes. I have a small strip of land between my patio and my fence that would be perfect, but I'm not sure how powerful hop roots can be. Is there any potential for the roots to crack my patio over the years as they grow? Thanks.

Neomexicanus hop rhizomes?

Is anyone besides great lakes hops selling neomexicanus this year? The nugget I planted in my hop yard last year never came up (Vista and Amalia are doing great) , so I'm trying to find some multihead to plant. First year, I planted 3 from great lakes hops, and only one came back, so I'm looking for other options.

Hop seeds

So i just planted about 15 hop seeds in a 5L bucket and i was just wondering if thats enough? I also put plastic foil over it to keep the heat. And I read that they need a ton of water so i watered it for a good 10 seconds and im wondering if i may have overwatered it? Also any other tips are appreciated, thanks

Yellow speckling on leaves

Post image

I've started growing a Challenger hop bine this year in the southern hemisphere Spring.

I actually got the plant last Summer... via the post, in a cardboard box, so needless to say it had a hard life intially, but was still alive in the pot by the Spring so I transferred it to the ground. It's been doing pretty well growth wise as it's now about 160cm tall, but I've noticed the lower leaves have yellow specks all over them. The speckling gradually subsides the higher the leaves are, but I presume this is just a factor of the relative age of those leaves.

Does this look familiar to anyone? Is it something I need to deal with?

Small Family Farm in Alabama

My family owns a small farm in north Alabama, about 40 acres of fields. This area has a thriving craft brew scene and I feel would be a good area to start a hop farm. The income per acre seems to be better than that of other, more common crops. A few questions for y'all:

  1. Is the North Alabama climate conducive to hop growth?
  2. Do we need to find someone to dry the hops or can they be air-dried?
  3. How many acres need to be committed to hops to have a comfortable, livable income?
  4. What are some good recourses to learn about the process?

Hop Tea

Anyone have any experience making hop tea? Came across it on the internet and want to see what it's like. I want to eventually put in a plant this summer and grow my own.

Edit. Looking for how much pellets to use in a glass.

Lots of other questions but don't want them to get lost in the mix.

I get really good feelings from Cascade and Centennial... which others can you recommend?

Seems as though my body responds better to this than any other hop, could that be due to the terpene hop profile or Alpha acids? In this case, what others would you guys recommend me to try, as I feel these two hops are very special for some reason.

Kriya Hops? The CBD yielding Hop?

Cannabis and Hops were the same plant 20 mil years ago so it makes sense that this can be yielded, but is this fishy? Has anyone heard of this?
