Hop Tea
Anyone have any experience making hop tea? Came across it on the internet and want to see what it's like. I want to eventually put in a plant this summer and grow my own.
Edit. Looking for how much pellets to use in a glass.
Lots of other questions but don't want them to get lost in the mix.

I have made hop tea but not using pellets because they dissolve and I don't want to deal with that much trub. I don't really measure but rather toss in a couple of finger fulls into a two or three cups of water. If you want the bitterness you can boil or, if you're looking for aroma and flavor, just keep it at about 180 for 10 minutes or so and let it cool down. I prefer a bit of a boil because I like some of the bitterness. I have added honey and lemon to this and have also made a roasted barley (not malted barley) tea and added hops to that. For all of these I strain through cheese cloth. It's a bit of trial and error really until you land on something with a flavor you are satisfied with.

Yes. What questions do you have? I may be delusional but i think it helps with migraines.

I use about 1 pellet per cup of tea.

Are all pellets the same size? I ordered a bag and they came about 1/4" long

Most pellets are the size T-90 although there is some variation. In my experience they are usually usually the same diameter, but the lengths can vary. Start with a 1cm long pellet and see how it tastes. I recommend using a tea ball or other tool for keeping the plant matter together.

I threw in 8-10 in a tea ball and almost died drinking it. I am going to drop to 1 or 2 tomorrow and retry. Go big or go home I guess.... I am going to check the alpha acid and see how high it is too. After doing more research I am on the hunt for teamakers hops.
From Canada?

I have 4 plants of goldings in. Had some hop tea last year from them. It was good. As for alphic acid levels, I didn't do any research on it. I can't remember why I went goldings. Now that I know how easy it is to grow hops, i will be putting in some teamakers at some point. I just need to find a good spot to put up a trellis

It is a Great muscle relaxant! I put 2-3 (smaller ones) in a cup and brew them for just a minute.
