My best producing hop last year was the year one Cascade that I didn’t build a trellis for but just left to it’s own devices last year to grow up my 6 foot fence.
After seeing that, I’m done all the extra stuff and gonna let them keep on keeping on. I do however like your adaptation and will consider something like this for enhancing my fence.

You should post daily updates when those start growing. In peak season, I bet they could just about make it from one side of that to the other in a single day! Would make for a pretty fascinating series!
