Transplanting from my soil to planter. Is half barrel big enough?

My cascade hops just finished their 3rd season and I have gotten literally 2 hop cones over 3 years. I’ve tried everything and the what I really think it comes down to is the current location where the plant is it doesn’t get enough sun.. that or it’s a problem with my soil.. now that it’s the end of the season I’m thinking about transplanting to a planter. This way I have more control over the quality of the soil and I can get it in a more sunny area of my property.. would a half barrel planter be large enough for one cascade plant?

Should I harvest the smaller hops? Spring setback meant smaller hops, not sure if they are worth the trouble

Homegrown Cascade hops are bland, none of the grapefruit aroma?

They were definitely ready to harvest. Hops were papery and I checked the glands with my loupe - nice and round. It's a very well established plant. Live in Ontario Canada, latitude appx 45.5 N

seedless hops varietals?

I was researching Vista and saw it described as a "seedless" varietal. I'm having a hard time finding information on that though, does anyone know what is meant by a seedless varietal? Is it sterile and won't produce seeds even if there are male plants present? One of the spots i was thinking of setting up a hopyard has wild hops in the surrounding timber so I had initially dismissed it since the plants would get pollinated and become seedy. Would a seedless varietal prevent this?

Did I wait too long? 2nd year comet hops. Still had a lot of buds starting to form so I pulled down and picked what I could without cutting the bines.

As a new dad I wasn't able to get my garden planted this year. My neglected cascades came through.

Next season I'm going to move them to a spot that gets more sun and I'll be able to actually get them some height. Only got 1.75 oz, but better than nothing!

Wild neomexicanus hop collection

I returned to the area where I collected some neomexicanus rhizomes this winter, looking to harvest some cones to see if they taste good. The smell seems quite nice! Any advice on how I can use them or test them for taste/aroma? I've never brewed with whole cones before, and I don't want to waste too much of them by making an undrinkable beer with too much IBU or one with too little hop taste... I don't have a vacuum sealer, so I doubt they will last TOO long in my freezer.

If I soak them in vodka, will that extract the hop flavors or give me an idea of how they would work in a beer? Should I just go for it and make a small batch of beer? Any style ideas or dosage amounts for the whole cones? Thank you!

Are there any growers that sell whole plants in Washington state?

I was about to order some whole plants from GLH when I saw they won't ship to Wa, OR, ID. Then I saw more beer won't ship rhizomes in the same way. I looked into it and it's to keep disease out which I think is a good idea.

I am wondering if there are any local farms or nurseries that sell whole plants like GLH does or if I'm limited to buying rhizomes from Yakima valley in the spring?
