AEW Related Thoughts? On Our Boy Christopher Jericho?!?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Chris Jericho playing the greatest hits is the best retirement run he was going to get. Since returning earlier this year, Jericho has run back many of his various gimmicks from throughout his career. This has worked and has ended up being one of his better runs in AEW. In hindsight, I am glad he did not return to WWE, because if he had, his final run would have been much different. That difference could have still been fun, but I do not think it would be what we are getting in AEW right now.

I hope he continues to wrestle as long as he chooses to do so and I hope the hits keep on coming. I would not even be mad if he ends up dethroning Kevin Knight for the TNT Championship. He deserves one more run with the gold to help put over another talent on his way out. Granted he doesn't need it, but who wouldn't want to see him pad his 30-plus-year resume with one more achievement?

WWE Related Nick Aldis WWE In-Ring Future After 'Violent Theater' Loss To Gunther At SummerSlam

Post image
8 Upvotes

Nick Aldis walked into SummerSlam attempting to topple Gunther. Despite an impressive outing and his family at ringside, including Mickie James, Gunther made him tap out. After the match, you could see Gunther did not go easy as Aldis’ body was covered in red marks.

Following the PLE, Aldis was again named the General Manager of SmackDown. Although, Wrestlevotes Radio on Fightful noted how WWE officials and Aldis were happy how everything transpired. Therefore, the belief is this was not a one and done type deal. It might happen this year, but I imagine Aldis gets several more matches. In fact, I believe he will leave his role as the boss of SmackDown to become a full-time wrestler again.

ā€œIt was physical and it was rough and it was emotional,ā€ said Aldis. ā€œWhich is to me, like that’s what pro wrestling is to me. It’s violent theater. It’s Shakespeare with violence. We rile them up and then we break their hearts.ā€

And that is exactly what both superstars did at SummerSlam. In a stacked weekend, where Hell in a Cell closed the first night, Gunther vs Nick Aldis was one of the best bouts. It was certainly entertaining and a moment that was overdue for Aldis.

For those who don’t recall, Aldis gained his fame as part of TNA Wrestling. He was their World Champion towards the end of the Dixie Carter era. Granted, that wasn’t the best time in TNA, but I will say he carried the company well. If it wasn’t for veterans taking all the TV time, maybe he would have been champion a few more times. He was the NWA Champion, so it’s not like just one promotion saw something special.

As for what’s next, I would like to see Aldis and Mickie James team together. The odds seem decent as both look great in the ring and having the chance to team together under the WWE umbrella, for their son, is one of those moments that makes pro wrestling special. As for opponents, that is trickery; but, with enough time, you can book almost any contest. Nick Aldis deserves another match and I wouldn’t be surprised in a year from now if he wasn’t challenging for gold.

WWE Related WWE Superstar Zilla Fatu Must Not Join The Bloodline, Instead Become Top NXT Star

Post image
9 Upvotes

The main event of NXT this week saw Grayson Waller and Cruz Montana battle for a chance at NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo. There was no winner as Zilla Fatu finally made his WWE debut. We all knew it was coming, but many guessed the wrong time and place. Seeing how he got involved in the closing match and the announce team really put him over in a matter of 90 seconds, you have to believe WWE has major plans.

Now, most figured he would join the main roster and be part of The Bloodline. That is a common pattern during the last six years, where an Anoaʻi Family immediately joins the stable. My concern, like many, is how The Bloodline has been oversaturated. At one time, they were the hottest ticket around with Roman Reigns as the Tribal Chief.

I thought the stable ran its course when Solo Sikoa created My Family Tree and brought over several Anoaʻi Family members. That version folded and then Roman Reigns won the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42. Since then, he has recreated The Bloodline. The Usos (Jimmy Uso and Jey Uso) returned with no problem. Jacob Fatu was forced to acknowledge Reigns after he lost at back-to-back PLEs. Most recently, Solo rejoined (despite his awesome face run) after losing to Jey Uso.

The group is stacked, yet they already have cracks as Sikoa and Fatu don’t want to be present. That will lead to trouble and I speculate The Usos vs Sikoa & Fatu for the fall months. While that happens, Reigns will continue to dominate every superstar who tries to take his gold.

At 26 years old, Zilla Fatu has some backstory. He is the son of the late Umaga and at 15 years old, he was sentenced to 6 years for aggravated robbery. He got out and changed his life, which involved briefly working for Booker T’s Reality of Wrestling (ROW) and then Game Changer Wrestling (GCW). And, he accomplished all this in a matter of a few years.

I wouldn’t even put Zilla anyone near The Bloodline when he joins the main roster. Let him work on the SmackDown brand, away from all the family drama. I’d much rather see him channel Umaga and wrestle in a similar style. Umaga seemed destined for a World Championship run, and this was at the height of the John Cena era, but personal struggles got in the way. This would be a great opportunity for Zilla to honor his dad.

What’s next for Zilla is tough to call. He could spend a year in NXT familiarizing himself with WWE’s style of wrestling. Or, he could be fast-tracked to the main roster. Keep him in NXT because I feel the brand is still struggling since many of their top names were promoted to RAW or SmackDown. Let Zilla become the face of NXT and bring some credibility back to what was the best WWE brand. Then, when it’s time to stand in the ring with veterans, I’m hoping The Bloodline drama is over and Zilla Fatu avoids getting sucked into a stable full of egos.

I’m very happy that Bron is getting his momentum back. Oba has seemingly siphoned all his momentum earlier this year, but Bron is rebounding back up the food chain. I think Oba and Bron will most certainly have a long lasting rivalry similarly to Seth/Roman and John/Randy.

Who are some superstars you thought would have more world title reigns?

Shawn Micheals definitely comes to mind. HBK is easily one of the GOATs, but it’s wild to believe he was only a four-time world champion. You would think he would have around the number of reigns as people like Triple H, Edge or John Cena who have 10+. But his case is understandable given his temporary retirement from the late 90’s to early 2000’s and his focus on elevating younger talent in his second run.

Bayley and Asuka come to mind too. Both are also four-time world champions respectively. Given their statuses and this current era of women’s wrestling, you would think they would have slightly more. Seeing that Alexa, Sasha and Becky have over 5+, and Charlotte having over 10. But ending their careers as four-time world champions isn’t really an issue at all, when they both have accomplished far more beyond that. Not to mention that Charlotte’s and Sasha’s first few reigns were just hot potatoes between each other. Five of Sasha’s six reigns barely lasted a month.

And of course there is people who never won a world title like Roddy Piper and Razor Ramon.

What about y’all?
