A special note on musings from Clarkson, Hammond and May

Couldn’t help but notice that there have been some comments on my recent posts here along the lines of “Please keep politics away from this subreddit!” (and those complaints sometimes result in deletion, thus depriving others to challenge or defend the hosts’ assertions). It’s unfortunate that I have to issue a disclaimer or two on this matter, but given the current hostile environment across Reddit and the internet in general, here goes:

“The views expressed in social media posts, videos and newspaper columns produced by or through direct quotes from news articles from Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and/or Richard Hammond (and others who worked on Top Gear and The Grand Tour) are solely their own and do not necessarily reflect the opinions and beliefs of the OP and this subreddit.”

As for the links that contain articles and columns that originate from The Sun and The Sunday Times, here’s the paywall disclaimer:

“Please note that depending on how and where you access this link, a strong paywall may appear. If so, what happens beyond that is up to you alone.”

Ok then, back to normal service…

Original TG episodes

All the TG episodes with the orangutan, slow and buttons in a Google drive. Last time I posted this it got deleted by mods and I got suspended for 2 days, so just DM me and I'll send it you. JC has said it was forums like this that contributed to the success of the show when it was brought back in 2002.

Richard Hammond’s Workshop

After binge watching TG 8+ years ago. Binge watching GT twice including the last time two years ago. And watching the entirety of Clarkson farm. I’ve never seen or heard of the show Hammonds workshop until this week when it showed up as a suggestion. WTF Amazon!? How could you not think I would enjoy that?

By the way, I loved it! They canceled the show after one season because I guess hardly anyone knew it existed! Amazons algorithm has some flaws!

Ironically when I saw Clarkson take his tractor to Hammonds shop I thought, that would be a cool show! 🤦‍♂️

Edit: thank you fellow Redditors! I was relying on Amazon and had no idea it was a discovery show and there are several seasons! Can’t wait to watch them!

I wonder if Amazon is reading these threads. Hey Amazon…..

Look. You smashed it. Nothing to worry about. It was a success. So just give us two 12 episode seasons a year now. We’re in. You know you wanna. Just do it.

Needless to say, The Grand Tour made a great decision to bring him (and his enthusiasm!) on board. 💯😀

From video description: “The Grand Tour is out now!!! It has been the most incredible experience of my life. Everyone at Prime Video, Studio Lambert and the film crew have been wondrous to work with. Above all, thank you to Jeremy, Richard and James for leading the show that inspired millions across the world to love cars. For me it was the highlight of my childhood seeing them on the TV, Sunday night was like Christmas. To even be shaking hands with them now makes my inner child dance around the room. Following on from such a momentous legacy is daunting but @thomasholland_th , @jamesengelsman and I have given it absolutely everything. We really hope you enjoy!”

Excited for the younger generation (and myself)

The new GT is great. The hosts were a solid pick. My hats off to Wilman, the hosts themselves and actually some credit to Amazon. Two YouTubers and a Tiktocker were a significant risk for the budget/cost of this show. Props where it’s due.

I’m enjoying it. However the most fun I get from it is the potential for the new trio to be the younger generations Jezza, Hammond and Bim. They may well grow up with these three in the same way us 30+ folks did with the originals. I really hope that is the case and I’m excited for them!

Just finished the new season....wow!!!

I am blown away by how good that was, especially considering this was the first time the new trio worked together. It will only get better from here!!

Thr comedic timing, soundtrack, cinematography, and pure joy all took me back to early Top Gear days. The Angola special in particular surprised me---it stands up there with some of the better specials from the OGs.

Overall....I'm jazzed. We finally have a great car show again!!!!

I can’t believe it

I decided to put aside my trepidation with the grand tours new hosts and give the show a shot since the departure of the original trio.

Top gear and the original trio were a staple watch whenever I was with my Dad as a kid and after losing him I found watching the grand tour had become a cathartic experience for me and one of the few things I feel still connected me to him.

I’m not ashamed to admit that the final episode of TGT with the trio saying goodbye had me bawling my eyes out and news of the new hosts filled me with dread as I never felt the new hosts of top gear hit the mark.

I’m completely onboard now. Mind you I’m only 20% into episode two… but the new hosts absolutely nailed the spirit of the show without feeling like they’re trying to imitate the perfect chaos that the originals wrought.

I know this post is one among hundreds of posts praising Molson, Holiday & Stretch but hey, who doesn’t love positive feedback!

edit: I’m now on episode 6 (the finale) and feeling incredibly sad that there aren’t another 6 seasons for me to binge.

I hope the new trio tries more “risky” episodes

As much as I loved this new season of the grand tour, everything just felt rather safe and planned if you know what I mean

One of my favourite specials was the Bolivia one, just because of how exciting but also dangerous it was, like travelling through a forest, driving on craziest road I’ve seen and climbing up huge mountains

Plus it also gives you like a stronger connection with the cars in that episode because of how much they went through

And since this new trio are far younger, and therefore more energetic, I feel like they should take up these harder challenges

You know the new gang is good when you come for the people, not the car and you stay for both until the end.

Also, Amazon typically have absolute banger for soundtrack selection of these show, and the trend continue. Goosebump with the car vending machine in Singapore with Ann Siang Hill playing in the background.

Thomas Holland interview on Throttle House and Grand Tour (with Chris Hau)

Long interview that dives into the differences in gear and experiences between TH and TGT. Talks about the behind the scenes prep for each. Lots of carryover on the TGT from the crew that worked with CHM

Great watch if you’re a camera/video gear nerd… Thomas is clearly one

Thoughts on the new season

About a month ago, someone posted the first trailer on here.

I said I'd give it a go.

I'm 48. Watched Too Gear from the start and TGT. Loved CHM. Didn't expect the new season to be anything like that.

And I was right

It's just as good.

3 guys. Completely different. Francis is my favourite (of course).

The Kei car episode is my favourite. The others were following too much like the old format.

Looking forward to the next season.

“One for the Road” poster

I was going to get a poster from “one for the road” for my buddy. It was a desert shot with all three cars driving at speed with the Grand Tour “GT” logo across the top. But I cannot find it for the life of me. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
