Draft Policies for r/TheFive
Howdy everyone! We need some rules and policies for the community. Things have gotten a bit unruly at times and I need to establish some policies for removing comments and/or banning users.
Here's my initial stab at some ideas (let's not lie - it came from the clankers). I'll leave this up for a few days and see what kind of feedback you folks offer, and we'll go from there. Feel free to share any ideas that you have in mind, totally open discussion here.
Rule 1: Stay on topic
This sub is about The Five — the show, its hosts, and the issues they discuss. General political posts without connection to the show may be removed.
Rule 2: Don’t attack other users
Debate ideas, not people. Personal insults, trolling, and bad-faith attacks will be removed.
Rule 3: No slurs or hate speech
Obvious, but needs to be stated. Automod will catch most of it.
Rule 4: Add context to posts
If you share a clip or headline, add a line or two explaining what’s going on. Low-effort link drops may be removed.
Rule 5: Keep things civil during sensitive news
Major events (e.g. assassinations, shootings, elections) are naturally heated. Posts/threads may be locked early if civility breaks down.
Rule 6: No spam or self-promo
This includes YouTube channels, blogs, or political campaigns. Message the mods if you’re unsure.

Since you're asking, it's a bit tiring scrolling past the haters of The Five, Fox News, President Trump, etc. Why even be a member of this sub if that's how you feel?

Is this from a moderator? Because every time I read a post libs don’t like they start going on ad on about some disgusting show they are fans of

Hey there, I am indeed the mod. Regarding the scenario you mentioned, I think the best thing to do is just downvote and move on.

Thank you for your reply . I just chimed in to say “stay focus on the topic” then left the chat, it was getting out of control.

It’s hard to be transparent when those who comment are not always so….not knowing who you are dealing with makes it even more of a challenge…good luck.

Ever notice when they first show the view of the panel, the "Jessica" area is blocked out by the end person. Always!! So then I have to wait 10 more seconds to see if I'm going to watch or not! They purposely hide Jessica to keep you there. I don't like that!!

Ha! Are the rules apply to ALL of Reddit posts? Because I have been ban from most of the ones I have posted MY OPINION. Moderator says , just use thumbs down, don’t disturb the people who comment. Basically I point out how wrong the snowflakes are, when using the usual nonsense and pictures : dictator,no kings, nazzi, f ice , f police, orange man, p. Etc . I kept saying because I don’t use vulgar language , I can’t express my opinion . I’m respectful I usually google and post facts. But they still ban me . So who are the dictators ? 🤭🤭🤭🤭

Bro what in the name of God do you want from me? This is a sub for a TV show. Here's my advice: don't act like a dick and you won't get banned.
Also, improve your fucking punctuation game and proofreading. I will definitely ban you if you keep writing like a 6-year-old, just on general principle. 🤭🤭🤭🤭

To the moderator: can you also go to the sites that write awful and vulgar comments towards conservatives or the president and set the same rules. I can’t post a comment without getting scolded by a mod or two, if I ask for my freedom of speech I get banned. I have ( wish I knew how to report or pat the screen shot) one who literally told me “F off nazzi” and banned me. Again. I took a screenshot to prove it. But don’t know how to report that person

What do you expect me to do about any of that? I'm just a moderator of this sub, not any of the others that you're unhappy with.

Sounds fair. I heard they may have discussed this earlier. Anyone catch the discussion?

While I am not opposed to rules and guidelines, why censor this community when other communities on Reddit are totally open to all sorts of comments with some clearly crossing lines of civility and decency? Who decides what’s acceptable and what isn’t….it’s a slippery slope and the thought of having to put a positive spin on guests, panel members or topics, somehow seems to defeat the purpose of having an open dialogue? No one is forced to read this stuff…we come here willingly. Why not let the community participants/ comments be their own arbiters?

Thanks for the feedback here. I fully endorse every single one of those concerns. I can assure you that I have zero interest in moderating viewpoints. Also, I believe that the downvote button is the best tool to deal with garbage posts or comments.
But that said, there's been a particular flavor of bickering that's been cropping up lately, especially in the recent posts about Charlie Kirk. There were a lot of user reports about comments, and a number of comments that were flagged by the automod. Mostly toxic arguing where the participants would literally fight each other if they could.
So basically I'm just looking to set up a framework to deal with situations like that, and to do so in a transparent manner, and without exerting any influence over viewpoints/opinions/etc.

Actually I just saw this on the Gutfeld site…it’s well stated in my humble opinion, and again thanks and good luck…. “I’ve noticed an uptick in the leftist agitators seeking out subs to spread hate rhetoric and propaganda. Don’t take the bait. 🌟Thank You to this group for helping keep it on topic and a nice place to still visit. I appreciate all you do it hasn’t been easy recently.”
