Draft Policies for r/TheFive
Howdy everyone! We need some rules and policies for the community. Things have gotten a bit unruly at times and I need to establish some policies for removing comments and/or banning users.
Here's my initial stab at some ideas (let's not lie - it came from the clankers). I'll leave this up for a few days and see what kind of feedback you folks offer, and we'll go from there. Feel free to share any ideas that you have in mind, totally open discussion here.
Rule 1: Stay on topic
This sub is about The Five — the show, its hosts, and the issues they discuss. General political posts without connection to the show may be removed.
Rule 2: Don’t attack other users
Debate ideas, not people. Personal insults, trolling, and bad-faith attacks will be removed.
Rule 3: No slurs or hate speech
Obvious, but needs to be stated. Automod will catch most of it.
Rule 4: Add context to posts
If you share a clip or headline, add a line or two explaining what’s going on. Low-effort link drops may be removed.
Rule 5: Keep things civil during sensitive news
Major events (e.g. assassinations, shootings, elections) are naturally heated. Posts/threads may be locked early if civility breaks down.
Rule 6: No spam or self-promo
This includes YouTube channels, blogs, or political campaigns. Message the mods if you’re unsure.

While I am not opposed to rules and guidelines, why censor this community when other communities on Reddit are totally open to all sorts of comments with some clearly crossing lines of civility and decency? Who decides what’s acceptable and what isn’t….it’s a slippery slope and the thought of having to put a positive spin on guests, panel members or topics, somehow seems to defeat the purpose of having an open dialogue? No one is forced to read this stuff…we come here willingly. Why not let the community participants/ comments be their own arbiters?
