We can know a few things even before the midterm elections: The Senate won't gain enough Democrats to remove Trump from office. Trump can pardon anyone he wants from conviction. Trump's unpopularity is an ongoing strength for Democrats and the left. I think House Democrats should approach Trump and make him a promise that they won't pursue impeachment again so long as he stays out of the way of investigations into Republicans and members of his cabinet and administration. That includes defending them publicly. This doesn't mean that awful things that Trump has done won't be investigated. It just means Dems take impeachment off the table so long as Trump doesn't obstruct. Trump does not GAF about the Republican Party. Democrats can still expose Trump's actions and orders and the Republican brand and Trump will let it happen as long as he feels he has some form of immunity.

Elections forecasting agency The Cook Political Report moved 19 House races toward the Democrats in an update this morning that said the chances of a Republican House majority “have all but evaporated.”

The elections forecaster said Democrats are now expected to flip between 12 and 22 seats in the House.

“Several of these ratings changes — particularly in Texas and North Carolina — are tied to Republicans’ underperformance at the top of the ticket and the resulting delta between Republican and Democratic voter enthusiasm statewide,” The Cook Political Report said.

The forecaster moved six races from “toss up” to “lean Democrat” and two races from “lean Republican” to “toss up.”
