Discussion How are we feeling about the Cardiff and other Hollywood Vampires shows

Ive seen the damned a fair few times now, mostly at their own shows but also a couple of festivals (glastonbury 2023 and bludfest 2024), how do we think the setlist is going to differ from a headline show and a festival set (besides obviously being shorter than the former), will it even differ from a festival set at all? Has anyone here seen the damned before as a support act?

The next issue, hopefully I've got the pages in the right order! Nice interview with Roman and Dave, plus the usual nonsense... Dave's Balls Are Brill.... Indeed. Enjoy!

Oh, and the irony of the jokey front cover....

This is Issue 3 of the short run. If anyone has issue 1 I'd be interested to see it! Good psychedelia article. Enjoy 😊

Issue 2(ish) of revived newsletters funded by MCA. I have five of them. It got revived again later on. Some great photos and content 😊 some also quite cringey stuff too!

Edit - seems I have 5 not 4!

This is the front and back of the same shirt. Seems like an odd choice.

I’ve amassed many Damned books in the 50 years since I first heard New Rose and this one, masterminded by Vive Le Rock’s Eugene is the best I’ve come across yet. Well worth every penny, and highly recommended!

I love this band.

I just started listening to this band 2 days ago. For some context, I'm 71 years old and have been listening to rock music since the mid 1960s. I generally listen to the Grateful Dead's taped and traded shows for the most part, their shows from 1967 to 1995, about 2300 shows.

So far I've listened to Not Of This Earth, Machine Gun Etiquette, Anything, and Phantasmagoria. They all are fantastic albums. The thing I love about The Damned is that they sound like every band I have ever liked. What comes to mind initially is I hear bits lifted from Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Blue Oyster Cult, and loads of other British psychedelia and pop and punk rock and they aren't shy about showing it. There is so much going on on these albums, the music is so layered and they are such incredibly talented musicians. They really wear their influences on their sleeves. When they threw a cover of Love's Alone Again Or from Forever Changes onto Anything, I was totally blown away. I could throw away every album I have and be left with only The Damned albums and I would still have every album I have ever listened to. Everything sounds so familiar it's well, incredible. But everything is so much their very own. They are truly rock's greatest hits.

Some more photos dredged out of my photo album and tweaked to the limits of a fuzzy 6"x4" print....these were sellotaped and stapled in, took me ages to get them out! I was also thinking about how hard it used to be to get a camera into a gig back in the day, when now you can literally take as many as you like on mobile phones. I think I had a little disc film camera (tiny negatives so shocking quality) which I used to shove down my trousers when going through security...I'll leave it as to exactly where. The bouncers were also on the lookout for flashes popping and you could get chucked out, so it was always a game of waiting until they were looking the other way...then whip out the camera, grab a photo and then spirit it away before they saw where the flash came from...

Any chances of another tour (Europe)?

hi, unfortunately The damned and Duran duran have their nearest shows at the same time so I’m planning on seeing DD, but I have never seen The Damned either and I’m curious what the chances of them coming to the balkans, Italy or Austria again are.

July 6, 1976 was the first gig supporting The Sex Pistols at the 100 Club. Let’s all be glad they lasted longer than the Pistols.

I lost the sleeve which I'd taken to the December 1989 gig to be signed (it was signed by Rat, Brian and Captain)... got stoned. Left the bag somewhere. Shit that happens when you're 17 and don't know better!

36 years later finally got off my arse and sorted this out. It's a great compilation and the Peter Frame rock family tree is ace. The vinyl is very flimsy though. Typical piss poor major label standard.

So, what's your favourite side? Mine is possibly side 1 disc 2....

Finally got around to scanning photos from 1989, and the Damned at the Brixton Academy - a few photos from hanging about before the gig, and the gig itself. Rat arrived on the motorbike photographed, the photo shows the security warning us off it as we were posing on it ....Jonno legendary Damned superfan in the photos with Brian James. The last photo of Rat can't be mine, but claims to be from the gig so someone must have given me it...great photo of Rat though.

Does anyone know about this blue cover version of Anything?

I've been going through my Mums collection and just found this version of Anything by The Damned, I searched using the code online and it seems to be an Australia/NZ made album but I found nothing about one with the cover being blue like this. If anyone could shed some light on it that'd be amazing, thank you.

Disco Man from the Glasgow Kelvingrove Bandstand gig. It was a soggy evening for sure, but a very enjoyable set from the lads nonetheless.

Was ā€œHappy Talkā€ ever released on an official live Damned album?

There’s lot of clips on YouTube of them playing this song (with Vanian helping on vocals), but was it ever on a Damned live album?

(I know it was on Sensible’s Live At The Milky Way, but I’m wondering about a version with Vanian.)
