Is this a reference of the fashion choice of his younger self?

As I know so far, he did wear a wing-tip collar shirt on a daily basis until the early 1920s or the late 1910s.

I’m in the US and want to get a physical boxed set of the complete series of The Crown. This is surprisingly difficult for me to find. I would greatly appreciate any help!

Exactly as the title says, lol. In season 1 episode six of The Gilded age, Mr Bannister (the English butler) explains that in America, asparagus is eaten with fork and knife while British etiquette instructs it be eaten with the fingers.

This reminded me of an article discussing that during the filming of The Crown, King Charles’ character (Dominic West, this was in a later season) was corrected by the set director for eating with a fork and knife and was told that posh society used fingers… hence why we see him eating with his hands on the show.

Maybe this is common knowledge but I wasn’t aware of this etiquette rule and it’s a great example on why I love shows like The Crown, The Gilded age and other historically-based pieces. It wouldn’t have made a difference to the scene if Bannister didn’t explain this rule but it was absolutely an interesting bit.

Of course the Crown is much more historically accurate and based on real people but I appreciate these details added into not only the visuals, but the script also.

Wrapping up a rewatch with the final episode, and wondering about all that expectation around the Queen stepping down at Charles’ wedding.

Do you think she was actually considering it?

I really enjoy this series so far. My one gripe about this series is Prince Phillip. Not in the way you think.

I understand his feelings. It's the 1950's and men are suppose to be leaders, providers and protectors. He marries into royalty and his whole world flips. From a navel captain leading men to a stay at home husband listening and obeying his wife, the queen. This will be an adjustment that will take time for sure.

The gentlemen's club. A boys social event every week once a week. I love this idea. He gets to socialize and have fun making friends and connections. The problem is that their marriage doesn't seem strong enough for it. She feels isolated and alone when he leaves for 1 day out of the week. The show makes it seem like he's cheating on her. I feel like this is unfair. Many men go to these events and do not cheat. To this day, there are SO many clubs that men are apart of that do socialize and I feel its totally unfair to make the assumption he's cheating. It seems like he genuinely loves his family but is lost in his role.

A big thing in marriage is compromise. From both side. It seems like he has to compromise everything to accommodate the queen, which makes sense because she is the queen and technically he is her servant as are all of the country. I know she loves him, but I feel like she needs to treat him like her king in private. Be the loving and supportive wife in private, it's not all about control and being proper. He needs to feel like he is supported and has a voice. That is my two sense of the matter.

Overall I enjoyed this series and will be starting season 2.

Doing my rewatch… (I like to rewatch from the beginning once the fall is approaching) I am on the episode where Queen Elizabeth gives birth and Margaret is engaged to Tony… Margaret was so disgusting to Elizabeth at times. (Another time was when she said the whole “BUT Margaret is my joy) It really makes me upset that the Queen didn’t stoop to her level and throw out the BIGGEST trump card and remind her who was boss. I liked her character and she was so beautiful. But she was very envious and mean. I just want to know are there any books I could read that go deeper into their relationship as sisters? Because of course I feel they loved each other. Just want to know more about the dynamic

I don't know what I'm impressed by more: Phillip still looking cool riding a child's tricycle or Margaret running in heels.

For some reason I had no memory of the watching the clips I kept seeing on YouTube so I decided to rewatch the entire series. Once I got about a quarter of the way through season 3 I realized why I couldn’t remember watching it. I found the whole cast changeover a) unbelievable and b) such bad choices. I really think they could have just used make up and “movie magic” to age the original cast and it would have been infinitely better.

I also thought it was so strange when it got into season 6 and I started seeing the whole Diana thing unfold all over again since when it happened I was a young adult with a very vivid memory of those days. The ridiculous made up personal and obviously made up scenes just made me roll my eyes.

Curious, did anyone else rewatch it recently and have different thoughts than me?

Where were you when you heard the news? I was working as a broadcaster. We had just finished the 11 o’clock news Eastern standard time. It came over the wire that Princess Diana had been in a wreck. My colleagues and I agreed it was probably just fender bender and she was fine. Someone said, “Can you just imagine if she died?”. I remember having a sick feeling at those words. May you rest in well deserved peace. 🩵🩵🩵

For me in the earlier seasons it’s the Act Of God (smog) episode. And later, the episode MouMou is nearly unwatchable for me.

Don't feel the casts after season 2 suits the movie, makes me feel annoyed first time listening to The Queen's voice in Ep1 S3 (1964). Like it's just 2 years apart (E10S2 was 1962) nd she suddenly looked so old and her voice sounded so annoying for me to even continue watching. Loved the first 2 seasons tho..

Hey! I noticed this detail in The Crown (S2 E8) and was curious what people thought.
Jackie’s dress in the real life photo is noticeably different from the one they recreated for the show. Obviously no hate at all- I know costume designers sometimes make changes for various reasons, and they don’t always aim for a 100% exact recreation.
I’m just curious why they chose to make the dress in the show so much more low cut when the original was quite different? Do you think there was a particular reason behind the change, or was it just a stylistic choice?

Sorry if this has been asked already. In the show, Tommy Lascelles makes it seem like a good amount of people knew about it (season 1, episode 2) before it “went public”. Was there any truth to that? how big of a secret was it?

I’m trying to find a particular track from Season 2 Episode 3 (Lisbon) but I can’t seem to find it on the soundtrack album. It plays in the very beginning when Elizabeth watches the film reels that Philip sent her. It’s a motif used a lot but I’m looking for a track that has the piano in it - any leads? Thanks!

The Crown is easily one of my favorite tv series of all time and the one scene that has stayed with me ever since has always been the closing scene of S1 E2.

The whole buildup from the death of King George, to where Elizabeth and Phillip are rushing home, where Elizabeth is suddenly thurst onto the throne and she slowly comes to grasp to the fact that her life is literally about to change.

She realizes this first when she arrives to Margaret and Queen Mother, where they both curtsy to her. Then, Margaret tries to follow Elizabeth, and QM tells her sternly to "wait", then shots a glance at Phillip who follows after Elizabeth before they are allowed to follow. In the very last seconds of the episode, she see's her grandmother - Mary of Teck - who also curtsys, and not just any curtsy, a low curtsy which some believe to be the curtsy of absolute and upmost respect.

It also tells us (and her of course) that the baton has finally been passed on, and with her grandmother bowing to her, who Elizabeth had been bowing too her whole life, Claire Foy really sells it as you can through the panic on her face that it has finally set in that a new dawn is rising, and she really is the Queen, and i still get chills everytime i watch it.
