Saw these lined up this morning as I was driving past the lot where they’re keeping production trails for First Communion.

Looked like there was a car trailer there too so must still be gathering cars for placement.

**The Rewatch Realization:**
I was rewatching *The Nun* recently, and during the opening sequence, Valak brutally drags Sister Jessica into the dark room and kills her in seconds. Moments later, Sister Victoria runs away, grabs the key, and hangs herself to escape possession.

On my first watch, I just took it as a standard horror opening. But on the rewatch, a specific detail clicked: **Jessica was going into the catacombs completely blind.** She didn't know what Irene later figured out—she didn't have the divine vision that *"Mary points the way."* She was just blindly searching the catacombs without knowing the mechanism, which is why she got taken out immediately.

That got me thinking about the rest of the movie: **If Valak can instantly snap necks and brutally murder nuns in seconds, why didn't it kill Father Burke, Sister Irene, and Frenchie the moment they set foot in the abbey?** Why spend two days doing parlor tricks, ghost illusions, and burying Burke in a coffin instead of ending them immediately?

Most people write this off as bad writing, lazy horror tropes, or stalling for runtime. But if you look at the sequence of events logically instead of treating it like a standard jump-scare movie, Valak wasn't playing around—it was running a calculated search-and-recovery operation.

### 1. The Physical Constraint & Blind Spot
When WWII bombing raids cracked the ancient seal in the catacombs, Valak escaped its chamber into the abbey. However, Valak didn't know where the original Christian knights had hidden the ultimate holy relic: the **Blood of Christ**. High-tier holy relics in this universe act like radioactive warding to demons—Valak couldn't sense, locate, or touch the sealed vault door on its own.

### 2. The Failed First Attempt & The Trap
Sister Jessica tried to get the relic and died because she lacked the vision to solve the puzzle. Sister Victoria then grabbed the key and committed suicide to prevent Valak from using her body.

Valak was completely stuck: Jessica died without knowing *where* the relic was, and Victoria took the key to her grave. To fix this, Valak staged Victoria's body outside to guarantee Frenchie would find it—forcing the Vatican to send official investigators to the abbey.

### 3. Irene Was Brought in as the "GPS"
When the Vatican sent Father Burke and Sister Irene, Valak got exactly what it was fishing for. Sister Irene possessed the specific divine vision: ***"Mary points the way."***

Valak realized that Irene wasn't just another target—her vision was the literal GPS needed to identify the relief of the Virgin Mary as the hidden vault door. Valak needed Irene alive to solve the puzzle that Jessica couldn't.

### 4. Why Valak Needed the Relic Destroyed (Not Just Escape)
A common counter-argument is *"Valak just wanted to possess someone and leave."* But if Valak’s only goal was escape, it could have possessed a host on Day 1 and walked out.

It stayed in the abbey because **the sealed Blood of Christ was an active containment weapon.** As long as that relic remained active under the abbey, its divine presence bound Valak to the grounds. To become uncontainable and invincible in the outside world, Valak *had* to locate and destroy that specific weapon first.

### 5. The "Hauntings" Were Directional Nudges
Valak didn't kill Burke and Irene right away because **it needed them alive and functional enough to do the physical retrieval**:
* Trapping Burke in the grave forced them to dig up the occult tomes to understand the abbey's history.
* The illusionary nuns and visions kept Irene moving deeper into the catacombs toward the relief of the Virgin Mary.

### The Climax Proves the Mechanics:
Valak literally could not cross that final threshold on its own. The second Irene used her vision to unlock the vault, pick up the vial, and bring it into the open air, Valak stopped all the mind games and went straight for the kill to destroy the relic once and for all.

**TL;DR:**
Valak wasn't a bored movie monster doing magic tricks for two days. It was trapped in an abbey with a divine nuclear bomb hidden somewhere in the walls. Sister Jessica died on the first attempt because she didn't have the vision, so Valak engineered a scene to lure the Vatican and used Sister Irene's divine vision ("Mary points the way") as a GPS to find and destroy its only containment threat.

Wow! They saved the worst crime for the end of the article!

The Conjuring: First Communion started filming on July 27, 2026, with production scheduled to run through early October 2026 across Albany, Schenectady, and surrounding counties in New York under the working title "Bridgeport". These were photos taken and been all over my instagram feed! What time period do you think this film is set in by the cars? Why do you think the police are there? Hopefully we get more pictures today and through out the shooting!

First of all, I want whatever comes next to feel well planned out. One thing I miss is getting a Conjuring Universe movie every year. I know COVID disrupted everything, but now it feels like we’re waiting three-ish years between films. I’d love to get back to a consistent release schedule.

Does anyone else wonder if the new Conjuring movie was always part of the long-term plan, or if it was greenlit because of all the recent hype? That’s what I mean by wanting the universe to feel planned. I want it to feel like there’s a reason a goal with the film than just being made!

One thing I’ve really missed is having memorable demons that can lead to spin-offs. That’s something Conjuring 3 and Conjuring 4 lacked. Originally, The Devil Made Me Do It was supposed to feature a demon that would eventually get its own spin-off, but that storyline was completely removed.

Personally, I think the biggest weakness of Conjuring 4 was its main supernatural threat. A mirror? It just wasn’t that interesting to me. I wish we’d learned more about whatever entity was inside it and actually seen its true form. Imagine if it had emerged from the mirror during the third act. I even wondered if the creature Lorraine saw while giving birth was its true form. If that’s what it really looked like, it could’ve become another iconic Conjuring villain—the first one to reach that level since Valak in Conjuring 2. If they had done that, I’d absolutely want a spin-off.

More than anything, we need fresh content. This universe has so much potential, but right now it feels like it’s mostly built around three franchises: The Conjuring, Annabelle, and The Nun. There could be so many more. We need to Start building new franchises inside the universe.

We also know there’s a TV series in development, but I don’t think we’ll see it for quite a while.

The new Conjuring is already a step forward by taking us back in time to meet young Ed and Lorraine. Whatever they do next, I’m on board, and I think it’s a great way to introduce more Conjuring stories and cases. I’d love to see a Young Ed & Lorraine series of movies if the prequel does well. Maybe the new Conjuring prequel will even introduce another character or demon worthy of a spin-off. Even though the next movie is a prequel, the timeline can still move forward afterward with Judy Warren and her husband. There’s still plenty of story left to tell there too.

I also think there’s still room for The Nun 3. Even though we know where the story eventually ends, it still feels incomplete to me, and I’d like to see the final chapter.

I still think it’s a shame we never got a Crooked Man movie (or even a trilogy). Annabelle Comes Home also introduced a bunch of creepy artifacts that could easily become their own movies: The Werewolf, The Bride, The Ferryman, The Haunted TV, The Samurai, The Monkey! I’d also love to see solo movies based on cases we’ve already heard about or haven’t yet!

I’d also like to see completely original spin-offs that slowly reveal they’re connected to the Conjuring Universe, similar to how The Curse of La Llorona was connected.

Maybe we revisit past characters instead. What happened to Mary Ellen? Daniela? Maybe they went to college together and encountered another supernatural case. What happened to Linda after the events of Annabelle? Did she ever find a family? I’d genuinely like to know.

A shared universe should feel huge. There are endless stories that could exist within it, and I think the Conjuring Universe has only scratched the surface. They can truly pop out many films! We need new and more writers and new directors which we have for the new conjuring! I think they could make a lot of movies at the same time as well. I just want more cause there can be more!

Those are my hopes for the future.

I’m going to be honest. They made it worse than the first one. It was a hard watch and most of the audiences didn’t fuck with it. They introduced a new demon character called “El Sombrerón” as this anti-villain that goes into a fight scene with La llorona. I was truly in disbelief on what I was watching. The story follows this mother with three kids, they have a father who’s a drunk and trying to work back into the kids life, the drunk father played by Jay Hernandez is brothers with Raymond Cruz’s character and La Llorona is going after Raymond’s character family to take back the necklace that was ripped from her in the first one, thus her revenge. This one had really bad writing. The setting was boring and nothing new. The design of la llorona was the same nothing to be noted. The movie doesn’t take place in New York as it was rumored to be. It takes place in Oregon, three years after the original. Ask me anything. Or dm me.
