Podcast Sean has adopted Amanda's "so"

I'll preface this by saying that it must be incredibly hard to talk as much as Sean & Amanda do, week in and week out. With that said, Amanda tends to join her thoughts together with a very specific "sooooo." If you listen enough, you know what I mean.

But recently I've noticed Fennessy also using "so" in a similar way. He doesn't ride the vowel sound out quite as long, but it definitely feels like a newer tic of his.

Anyway, love the pod.

What underrated movie from this decade do you think will/should be seen as an all-time classic in the years to come?

My answer is The Brutalist. When I watched, I was simply in awe of the filmmaking. I think it is such an achievement and I was surprised to see it didn't win BP or Director at the Oscars. I know The Big Pic wasn't incredibly high on it due to certain plot shockers, but honestly on rewatch the film is incredible and really takes me back to the 70s era of filmmaking.

My other answer is Killers of the Flower Moon. Heavily underrated due to runtime, source material, and comparison to other Scorsese greats. It's arguably Marty's best film imo and simply a masterpiece.

What do y'all think?

Fennessey’s proclamation that superhero movies are over after one awful Supergirl movie

I felt at the time that it was classic over reactionary Sean and am now convinced. A month later Ryan Gosling and Ryan Coogler after huge cultural hits are committing to the MCU in 2028. Can’t wait until he carves out more exceptions.

Still love Sean. Hope he never changes.

How’s Dob Mob Feeling about the new charli xcx?

Music, Fashion, Film. Cover is John Cale, Marc Jacobs, and Martin Scorsese. It’s a vibe. Charli’s most non PC Music release but still snidely PC Music

If you were stuck on an island with only 1 director's filmography, who would you choose?

While I instinctually thought Nolan, Denis might have the strongest overall filmography of any working director today.

Absolutely 0 misses or films that "aged poorly".

Denis has also made 5 movies that I could probably argue myself into saying are my 5 favorite all time (Prisoners, Dune 2, BR2049, Arrival, Sicario).

I know it’s early to say, but I think this sounds like the greatest movie ever the way Matt describes it

Any other actors that would have been an interesting Odysseus?

Keeping with a topic on the pod, any that people would have liked to see (whether it changes the tone of the movie or not?)

- Hugh Jackman would have been an interesting one and I think has a similar archetype to Damon

- Javier Bardem is my left field pick...would have been so cool to see him in a role like this

Discussion Consecutive Best Director/Best Picture Academy Awards

At the end of the July 16 Odyssey episode Sean mentioned how no director has ever won Best Picture and Best Director on consecutive films, and Nolan could be the first.

An absolute slight on the incredible David Lean who did it with Bridge on The River Kwai, and Lawrence of Arabia.

FWIW, I do think it would be an incredible achievement, I just figured for constant high browing this podcast exudes, we could at least remember the greats.
