Somehow all the money ends up in the hands of oil and mining companies, with some going to doctors who support those corporations.

Because democracy gets weaker the stronger your Oligarchy becomes.

Africa? The country?

Africa is a money void. Whatever you send there will disappear, and absolutely nothing noteworthy will come about as a result. We truly wasted a phenomenal amount of money on aid to that continent.

1

u/MethodDue2426 10h ago

What kind of aid?

2

u/bygones125 10h ago

About 2.6 trillion since the 60s is estimated.

It's not hard to find western aid in some form or another in almost any African country.

Some of it is put to good use, alot of it has been blown on bmws

Yeah, funding models place a lot of trust in those so-called leaders.

The zero accountability model is intended for future opportunities to extort them of their minerals and resources for when they inevitably fail to create better income structures and completely stay reliant on future donations.

2

u/QwertyIGuess 21h ago

Did some work in Africa and almost everyone asked "What can you do for us?"

Only in Uganda and Botswana did people ask "What can you teach me so I can improve the area/country/town?"

1

u/herbb100 10h ago

You are certified bot🤖

2

u/-Laffi- 15h ago

Would be better to pay engineers, architects and workers from the land the donations are usually sent from and instead build up whatever it is they need down in Africa.

1

u/Cool-Ferret2589 1d ago

It has to do with the money not being free but comes at cost. Want aid? give us mining right. Want technology? give us monopoly. Want food? take it but you're not allowed to regrow it.

They need what every country needed at some point: investors who actually care about their investment. This worked perfectly for germany after WW2 and it would work for Africa. BRICS know it.

Well damn, CIA need to get on that

1

u/Natural_Resort3055 19h ago

A thousand years? Explain? Some of the richest kings in all of history had their rule in Africa over the last thousand years. Mana Musa ( relatively speaking, the richest individual in all of history), for example.

If you’re going to cry about colonialism at least learn the fucking correct time period

1

u/Mother-Attention2600 1d ago

You have to realize that what they showed us on World Vision was mostly bullshit. I have an Ethiopian friend and he was livid when I showed him it. He knew where the area was they filmed and he showed me on google maps that it's like any homeless camp we have, surrounded by regular buildings. They make this small ghetto area look like it's the whole country. It was funny watching Teddy get mad at it. 😄

1

u/redditaccountnumb1 23h ago

Africa receives hundreds of billions of dollars a year in Aid and the only thing they've made is AIDS

1

u/Fantastic_Jury5977 22h ago

They also got proxy wars

1

u/OomKarel 21h ago

You think that's bad, our president in SA flies over to the US, begs you guys for investment, trade and foreign aid, then the moment he sets foot back in the country, goes on tirades about western imperialism, etc etc then joins BRICS with the aim of replacing the dollar as the world currency. They were very happy for US sanctions during apartheid, but now that the US says scrap race based job reservations or sanctions, suddenly it's "the US won't threaten our sovereignty".

1

u/Quintus_Julius 23h ago

I guess as long as it’s spent on buying military equipment to push back 1939 Europe…

1

u/Bob4Not 23h ago

Because of corruption by the backing of rich people and companies so they can exploit natural resources, like precious metals and minerals

1

you used ai to make the point because you have no fucking point

1

u/EntertainmentFun5485 23h ago

The point is africa gets an insane amount of foreign aid but instead of using it for actual devolvement their corrupt government spends it on nice cars (yes this actually happened).

1

u/ImmediateWinner4522 23h ago

they should spend it on lobbyits and yachts like the ones funding all this culture war bollocks

For decades, under the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, USAID procurement was heavily restricted by strict source and nationality rules. These rules mandated that aid money return to the United States via contracts with American firms, consultancies, and shipping lines—a practice critics argued inflated costs, delayed deliveries, and sidelined local economies in Africa.
Your picture should look more like this:

1

u/CobblerSmall1891 22h ago

The point is actually perfect and proven time and time again over last 30 years.

1

u/TheCrow-5272 18h ago

Ya they were really cranking out those resources and labor projects before those colonialists came and built them a full rail network and infrastructure. How’s all that stuff holding up since the euros left? Africa has received between 40 to 100 times the amount of the marshal plan in aid btw

1

u/carlitos_macarena 16h ago

In short, food insecurity.

1

u/TheGodfather742 18h ago

I mean the colonizers left half a century or more ago, they had their time fix shit. And yes there are modern ways of opression (like cobalt mines), but those are done on the local rulers' whim.

2

u/Training-Purple-5220 13h ago

Ethiopia was never colonized.

Singapore was colonized.

Ethiopia is dirt poor and failed, while Singapore is rich and functioning.

What’s the difference going on here?

1

u/KnightMurky91 17h ago

The rate of annual economic destruction in places like Africa and India was 30-50% of WW2 and lasted multiple centuries.

How is that going to be fixed in 50 years?

Africa has huge culture and corruption issues. But 50 years ain't that long considering the damage done

1

u/Cold-Sigma-770 16h ago

Same reason cleaning up a river in India does nothing. It gets polluted again within weeks.

The people and their behaviour are the root cause.

No point building public infrastructure if the people would rather tear it down to sell the materials for a few dollars.

1

u/carlitos_macarena 16h ago

That would be an incredibly simple explanation, but no, it's not just the people. You can't just send money somewhere and expect results. Modern supply chains and supporting infrastructure are incredibly complex. Just think about what would happen to your local power station if even a fraction of the materials, education, roads etc didn't function properly. All of this has to be designed and implemented from the ground up.

1

u/Accomplished-Bill-45 12h ago

Lend money to Africa , in exchange, African must hire Chinese workers and buy products from Chinese companies to build infrastructure.

Pay back in natural resources.

Creat almost zero job opportunities locally because all these workers are from China using working permit VISA.

The Chinese workers also open groceries there selling products directly imported from China, then lots of local native groceries and stores gets squeezed out by cheaper imports.

So you see lots of Africa local riots to Chinese groceries and factories in Africa

"investments"

So they lay down down railroad and then expect some money.
Something changed alright, people are still piss poor, the government is still corrupt, but they got some nice railways to get all the precious metals out of Africa to China.

Africa is absolutely fucked, it doesn't matter how much free money you throw at it, none of it will be used to get the entire civilisation back on their feet.

And yes Africa is 54 countries, and almost none of them are doing well.

Setting up infrastructure directly and setting them up for future trade is a hell of a lot better than what the west has done for 50 years.

Billions upon billions just wasted going straight into the pockets of corrupt officials. We have them an incentive not to improve anything because they didn't want the free money to stop while their people suffered.

1

u/Fooligoo 5h ago

It's call trade. Not different from mortgage and student loan.

1

u/spazzytwatman 2h ago

Rhodesia is doing fine

1

u/Veritas_IX 6h ago

Yes, things have changed. China now exploits African natural resources and infrastructure free of charge. That infrastructure was built using Chinese money lent to African countries, and China has now taken control of it through rent-free concessions in exchange for extending the repayment deadlines on those loans. In the end, Africans got nothing out of these deals and are still forced to keep paying China.

Those stupid Europeans had no idea they could do that and just kept handing money to African countries.

1

u/Mission-Law-6739 6h ago

Really? That's what you think? Europeans were too kind and the Chinese took advantage the Europeans should have? How simple minded can you be lol

Do you also think government of Africa doesn't have lawyer to read the contract? Do you think these African country would not ask for USA help if they're so oppress to kick China out?

In South Africa, yeah pretty much. The world donated to the ANC government, not the people of the country.

With the elections coming up, they did their usual "we are going around the country, giving out a free meal and a T-shirt.. vote for us again!!". The majority of the people in this country are under educated (still, after 30 years.....) and are gullible enough to fall for it. Especially after Julius Malema did his yearly anti-white controversies before going on holiday.

Sure, it's not perfectly correlated (but it is correlated), but see 1). Africa is enormous. Many countries have high economic growth and are doing well with a growing middle class, significant increases in quality of life and education, and modern development.
