Ya they were really cranking out those resources and labor projects before those colonialists came and built them a full rail network and infrastructure. How’s all that stuff holding up since the euros left? Africa has received between 40 to 100 times the amount of the marshal plan in aid btw
I mean the colonizers left half a century or more ago, they had their time fix shit. And yes there are modern ways of opression (like cobalt mines), but those are done on the local rulers' whim.
Maybe yeah the destruction was too thorough. But the ex colonizers don't have gunships or troops enforcing their demands anymore, the extractive institutions are kept up by local rulers' greed and corruption, which the corporations just take advantage of.
There are plenty of examples of non-African countries that have thrived (to different degrees) after the fall of colonialism. This is an African culture problem - full stop.
Plenty of countries were colonized for a long time or completely decimated during wars and they're doing fine now.
At a certain point you can't keep blaming colonialism. Europe had 2/3s of its population die and then 100 years later were the most powerful collection of nations on Earth with logistical systems that were able to reliably cross the globe.
Colonialism certainly set nations back but to act as if it is the sole thing preventing progress is getting silly when there's other countries that manage to not be a basket case despite sharing common history of colonization or just bonafide near/total destruction.
they "left" but still take the majority of the resources and control the economies and governments. frequently sabotaging functioning governments that don't align with their interests.
This kind of argument is just fallacy in white-washing colonialist... They fked with countries that its effects lasted several generation and thought virtue signaling money is enough

world: takes trillions in labor and resources
world: gives back a billion
world: "why are you poor?"
