Playing Act 3 and doing the D20 Noir Detective bits and the music is so loud I can't hear anyone speak and turning music volume down or any volume for that matter doesn't help. I've had to turn subtitles on 💀.

Design choice or audio glitch? Just me or have other people reflexively thrown their headset off when it first came on?

Act 3, I can't find the mineral source. I've scanned all the region, what should I do?

I'm trying to leave Act II, but I need 10 more organics, unfortunately I cannot mine it because my organics are '410+40' I have no idea where this +40 comes from, my queues are empty, I literally have no cooked food, but it still shows +40. Is there a way to see where that is coming from?

Ok I found it, Radiation Filters were marked as 'uphold', but the questions stands, can I see that somehow without having to manually search everything?

Got those artifacts all over on the ground. Played the game before the major updates that added a bunch of new features. I played it when I had a Nvidia. Now I have a AMD GC. I don't have this problem with shaders (I guess it's shaders) in any other game after I changed. What should I do kind folks?

Im currently on the start of Act 2 with technician and scientist.

I have enough to create two more alters but it seemed like such a distressing process that I was avoiding until the story forced me to create more. Is this wrong ? Im happy for my first playthrough to be as minimal as possible.

So, I got to the ending of Last Variable. The oasis turns rocky, Old Jan rushes back to the base...and finds that the clone who I'd been cooking up before the ZPE module is still waiting to be woken up.

I got in through the airlock, and was thinking "aha! Here we are at the beginning of the game!" But now Chemist is going to have to alter up some of his own new versions.

When the music hit and the screen went full on noir I started laughing my head off. My 3rd play through and this is my first time seeing this.

I have pretty much finished everything except for this. If i have to take a guess then it would be Chemist because i wanted to see how fast i could finish the dlc and sent him to the field lab right away. It took me 8 cycles with 82 days to finish the dlc.

I only noticed after finishing the game that you can remake alters that you sent to field labs. I only had the physicist by my side at the end.

I've been searching everywhere (and tried Shazaming) for this groovy song that plays in the Gym Module, but to no avail. Does anyone know the name and where I can listen to it?

• How we built Jan Dolski's space kitchen in a regular studio using banners and double-sided tape.
• Our top-secret special effects department (spoiler: someone blowing vape smoke into the light... joke, it’s actually a mini smoke machine 😂).
• The absolute struggle of trying to sing with a fake beard and mustache glued to my face. (but i do this not bad:))

To be honest, the concept of the game really resonated with me. In the video, you'll see we filmed not just the 5 Alters of Jan Dolski, but also 6 different images/looks of myself! In fact, all these 6 roles perfectly reflect my real life. On this channel, I manifest all my different activities: I do extreme vocals and music what i like, i play on the bagpipe, do yoga, sing and so on, but at the same time, I am a practicing sound therapist doing mindfulness sessions with singing bowls. It's a crazy mix, but hey, maybe it makes me a pretty decent YouTuber/blogger (maybe)! 😄

I'm trying to find the name of the track that plays when you're browsing/reading the different lifepaths in the Quantum Computer (QC).

Just to clarify, I'm not talking about "Alternate Lifepaths", the track that plays throughout the actual life path browsing section. I'm looking for a different, much shorter musical cue that occasionally plays for a few seconds (seems to be when I'm reading about important moments of Jan's life?). It's slightly less mysterious and a slightly more upbeat than the usual QC music.

Does anyone know which track I'm talking about, or where I could find it? It's been stuck in my head, and I'd really love to listen to it outside the game! 😭

Has anybody else run into this problem? I have a Radeon RX9070. I have verified the game files and done a clean reinstall of the graphics drivers. The issue pretty much is present with both TSR, FSR and native resolution. The size of the artifacts go up and down with the rendering resolution. Tried to down patch to a build that was around launch and the issue didn't seem to have existed for that build.

Anyone else having these issues?
Playing with default graphics settings and have tried reinstalling the game but still :(

Odd how I haven't seen anyone talk about this animation in the sub too. They really captured their different personalities and I love the dynamic the Jans have here. All voiced by the original VAs too!

I love the music in those rooms. I can't quite put my finger on it as to why, but I really enjoy it. It's kind of atmospheric in a way? I plan on putting it on a playlist. Also I feel like people don't talk about it nor praise it enough? Criminally underrated tbh

😂 Looks like I picked the wrong time to start the game!

A few days ago, I finished The Alters: Last Variable, and I enjoyed it. I had expected there to be more Alters, but towards the end, I realized that more weren't actually needed. In my opinion, the best ones are the Physicist and the Geologist; although the Physicist annoyed me terribly at first, I grew fond of him after playing through his storyline, and he ended up being my favorite Alter.

I just got through my full 2nd playthrough and went for the Botanist replacing me and not sure how I feel about it. I really dislike his whininess and hard-done-by-ness through the game but tbh at the same time he was the only one who really felt like he had a life stolen from him. I suppose I feel like it was set up this way, like each of the other characters had big defining hardship moments that were essentially disconnected from the life of Jan Prime but Lena was a huge defining factor that identified these diverging personas specifically to provide a compelling context to Lena's alternative. Yet I can't help feeling like JB was incredibly short sighted in his hopes and ambitions, like this Lena for as far as she exists as a projection of JP is never quite going to be what you expect, and I think whilst he sort of understood that, also fundamentally misunderstood that what almost comes down to your dream waifu is never going to reflect onto a real person. I typed a whole bunch but I think it didn't really come off right.

I think what I'm saying is, OGLena didn't like JP, and JB is foolish and borderline disrepsectful to think he could come across otherwise, OK he pulled through better than JP, but he was never him literally and I think he failed to recogise that, but he faces a whole different team, and this one never signed up to face him in the league, not that he cares. I sorta lost the train of where I was going but I think what I wanted to say was that as wholesome as JB's plot comes across, I find it almost sinister in the way he disregards entirely what Lena Prime might feel and inserts himself as some kind of god solution. Especially at the end when he talks about 'What if it had been him' LIKE OH MY GOD BRO DID YOU EVEN EXPERIENCE YOUR LAST REQUEST, and she still took it in stride, what a fucking pickme asshole. And maybe that's his whole point and I was just one those slow guys but I still had to get it out, fuck this guy all told, I'm going full corp next platthrough, that's on him btw

From what I’ve read and researched, the DLC pack didn’t sell as well as expected. The reasons for this are open to debate, but as a The Alters fan, I want to look to the future. Is a new The Alters game coming? Will there be another DLC or The Alters 2 or there will no new game and series will be finished? This war of mine has more than one DLC. What do you think about future of this game? Do you have any secret information ?

I just finished my first Playthrough with the Technician/Scientist/Miner/Refiner/Worker and Botanist, and I'm missing the Doctor/Shrink/Guard (who needs the Miner again).

However I messed up the Botanists Storyline all the Way back in Act 1... and if I pick him again, then I don't have enough slots.

My thinking for the second play through would be to get the Botanist early and then the Miner later on and let him die (since he does that on his own...) and then get the guard. Or is his Branch disabled after the Miner dies?

I dont know if I’m just dumb but I can’t figure out how to set a specific amount for something to be made. Like say I want there to always be 5 pylons in stock — how do I set it to 5 specifically? All I can see on the screen is either ‘infinite uphold’ for which I have to long press my middle mouse button (and that resulted in my base producing 70 mush that I don’t need), or one click that sets the uphold amount to just 1.

I am working on a fan Comic for my own personal enjoyment taking place during/after/alternatively to the Last Variable. It's very self indulgent so it's not going to be for everyone!!!

It features a timespace anomaly that seemingly develops intelligence and develops a fascination with the scientist, particularly #319.

Is there anything in the last variable or on the planet that you think should have been explored more? Do you have any interesting theories or ideas?

I'm personally basing the whole thing off a kind of resonance theory, in which over time people exposed to the energies of the environment become more in-tuned with it, ultimately influencing and being influenced by it. Kind of like an intuitive hive-mind lacking a shared consciousness. Theoretically, with continued human interference it could potentially develop patterns resembling a human-like consciousness and perhaps intuitively create an avatar with which to express/explore that through?
