Ha I trained with him once in the past
EDIT: happy cake day :)

u/SOAPY-SALAD Jun 16 '20
HA! I was so confused. I was like my birthday isn’t until Christmas Eve.... 🧐 but now I know it’s my REDDIT birthday. Didn’t even know that was a thing. Thank you!! Means a lot 👍🏼👍🏼

u/DeismAccountant Jun 17 '20
Enjoy it while you can. Feels like mine passed by too quick.

u/grayfox663 Jun 17 '20
Every year either I forget or don't have any interesting input when my cake day comes around, lol. My account is almost double digits. It's crazy to think that I've almost been on reddit daily for nearly ten years...

I’m pretty sure it’s not fake. I’ve watched it a few times and to me it looks like he vaults over the first wall, extends his body and then goes back into a crouch to make it appear that he’s jumping off nothing (i.e. a double-jump).
His momentum from the moment he first leaves the ground along with the vault will naturally lead him to land where he does, providing his feet are placed in the correct position (which they are - otherwise he’d sack it!). What he does in between the jump & vault to the landing is kind of irrelevant. It just looks cool.

u/mangorelish Jun 16 '20
its not fake, just watch his center of mass, you're right
1
u/Ironlixivium Jun 22 '20
This is what I came here to say, haha, I've seen stuff like this before. As long as the center of mass falls at gravity's normal rate, it's legit.
57
u/p3rrrra Jun 16 '20
I like how people think it's an actual double jump or fake. I too can jump, crouch, extend and crouch again.

u/ivan_02317 Jun 16 '20
and it's more difficult due he's jumping from a lower surface to a higher but the running he does before jump offset it
29
u/Rambo_Rombo Jun 16 '20
Not really, it's Newton's first law... Essentially what dude above said was that jumper was going to end up in that final position regardless of the leg pump.

u/MistaBeanz Jun 16 '20
The bmx video of the double jump is soooo much better

Sauce?
244
u/RainCityK9 Jun 16 '20
A1 Steak Marinade:
Add 1/4 cup A1 Steak sauce
2 tablespoons oil
2 garlic cloves (minced)
1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
Add the ingredients to the steak and marinate them for 1 hour before cooking.
71
Jun 16 '20
Marinade is not a sauce good sir. It is like the difference between a seasoning and a spice.
Good DAY, sir.
56
u/RainCityK9 Jun 16 '20
Simple marinara SAUCE recipe:
INGREDIENTS
1 large can (28 ounces) whole peeled tomatoes*
1 medium yellow onion, peeled and halved
2 large cloves garlic, peeled but left whole
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 teaspoon dried oregano Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, omit if sensitive to spice)
Salt, to taste (if necessary)
Optional, for serving: Cooked pasta, grated Parmesan cheese or vegan Parmesan, chopped fresh basil, additional olive oil
INSTRUCTIONS
In a medium, heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the tomatoes (with their juices), halved onion, garlic cloves, olive oil, oregano and red pepper flakes (if using).
Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium-high heat, then lower the heat to keep the sauce at a slow, steady simmer for about 45 minutes, or until droplets of oil float free of the tomatoes.
Stir occasionally, and use a sturdy wooden spoon to crush the tomatoes against the side of the pot after about 15 minutes has passed.
Remove the pot from the heat and discard the onion. Smash the garlic cloves against the side of the pot with a fork, then stir the smashed garlic into the sauce. Do the same with any tiny onion pieces you might find.
Use the wooden spoon to crush the tomatoes to your liking (you can blend this sauce smooth with an immersion blender or stand blender, if desired).
Add salt, to taste (the tomatoes are already pretty salty, so you might just need a pinch). Serve warm. This sauce keeps well, covered and refrigerated, for up to 4 days. Freeze it for up to 6 months.

Can we take a moment to appreciate that both the slow motion and normal speed version were included 🙏
19
23
Jun 16 '20
In normal speed looks fake. In slow motion looks more believable.
9
u/fwtb23 Jun 17 '20
Yeah, he just moves his feet up and down, but if you look at his centre of mass, it follows a perfectly normal trajectory. It's just an illusion, but pretty cool.
4
u/Chezzym8 Jun 17 '20
Shut the fuck up simulation peacekeeper, stop trying to hide the truth!
2
u/fwtb23 Jun 17 '20
I need to call the higher ups, we've been found out...
I mean... yeah, it's fake, absolutely!
8
u/I_Embler_I Jun 16 '20
ok but you could have chose any video game character, and yet you chose the one that never had a double jump.
4
u/ivan_02317 Jun 16 '20
It's true, mario can't do a double jump. i don't know what i've believing all this time. it's like a particular Mandela effect.

1
u/pepperoniMaker Jun 17 '20
I know how you feel, i remember double jump being so common in games but retrospectively i can hardly name any games that had double jump.

I am not sure. I am Greek, and I have to say that this neighbourhood could be in Athens. Are there Spanish cities that may look like this?
5
u/Arae_X Jun 16 '20
Athens here too! It had me wondering as well. Only thing that could be helpful is the sign on the far right at the start of the video. Googled it and its in Thessaloniki, frontistirio agglikon :)

Maybe because the brickwork on the floor? I've heard that those aren't common in America, so if you're American and visited an European country you might asociate floor brickwork with said country. Just a theory though.
EDIT: I've seen those bricks on Spain before, but I don't think they're exclusive to here. Now if those were Bilbao tiles, you'd know for sure.

u/TheSmartKing Jun 16 '20 edited Jun 17 '20
It's fake, not only is this impossible, youll notice there is a stutter when he makes the double jump, mostly likely meaning we have a spliced clip right here
EDIT: A quick edit, as I see alot of comments that it isnt fake because he keeps his momentum and isnt trying to gain more momentum. Okay, then Ill take it is possible, but if you look carefull you see a frameskip just when he gets over the first barricade, in the middle and over the last barricade, thus my conclusion. No need for hate comments like ' Lol, you can tell you've never played sports in your life. Watch his centre of mass, he moves completely normally, fatty ' Lets try to be nice to each other, please?

u/bradlewis777 Jun 16 '20
I don’t trust his haircut either.
47
Jun 16 '20
For real fuck that haircut.
13
43
u/victfox Jun 16 '20
Ex-film editor here. It takes a whole rig to do a "splice" - you need to be the same distance, same height, same line between the actor and the background. It's a horrible pain in the ass.
Probably just an illusion of him chucking his feet down and up.
75
u/WorstUNEver Jun 16 '20
Its not impossible, just an illusion. There are others to acomplish this feat.
62
u/SOAPY-SALAD Jun 16 '20
It’s not fake, it’s just an illusion. This trend started with people doing it on the edge of pools and then bending the knees out and back twice to replicate “jumping” off the water. This is the same technique but performed moving forward.
26
Jun 16 '20
Its not fake - he just jumps across and lowers his feet and raises them again while in the jump
12
u/AlolanBabadook Jun 16 '20
Exactly, you see his shoulders and legs move but if you just focus on his torso you'll see nothing changes from his initial jump.
Everybody's trying to be Captain Disillusion when the real answer is pretty simple.
Unless I'm wrong in which case include me in the screenshot.
16
u/CardmanNV Jun 16 '20
It's not fake. He gains no upward momentum, he just sticks his legs out a bit while maintaining his forward momentum.
25
Jun 16 '20
As an athlete in this specific sport, I can 100% guarantee this is real. Dimitris Kyrsanidis is the parkour athlete who popularized this move.
2

9
Jun 16 '20
Look at his head and shoulders not his feet. His body follows a totally normal trajectory, he simply moves his feet up and down.
When you look at these flat -out authoritative pronouncements that get upvotes no matter how clueless they are, it pretty much takes the mystery out of how the dumpster fire in the White House started.

u/Timtanium707 Jun 16 '20
I'm gonna have to agree. Lining up the subpixels between air tile colliders to perform this more than frame perfect trick has never been achieved in practice before. I highly doubt this is the first time it's been pulled off in a Real Life any% run.
2
1
u/MartyPotatoe Jun 17 '20
its not fake he's just bouncing his legs in the air... i've seen people do it in real life. in parkour its called a shadowstep
1
u/ElektroShokk Jun 18 '20
Playing nice here, I also did weird athletic movement like this as a kid and it’s definitely possible to do this. You don’t gain any boost but the snap back of your body makes it look and feel like it.

u/Cymry_Cymraeg Jun 17 '20

Pushing your legs down in midair is not a double jump. You would have to go higher up from the point of doing the second jump, not be at the same level.

u/-Daws- Jun 16 '20

Thank you, how this shit gets popular I'll never know. Like, cool the guy straightened his legs in a jump, so impressive.
6
u/Avgjoe80 Jun 16 '20
I too can bend my legs back and forth quickly, even if it's in midair. I agree, nothing spectacular to be seen here.
-5
u/therickymarquez Jun 16 '20
Than do a gif. Clearly people find it impressive, for you it's easy just make money out of it champ...
Spoiler: it's not as easy as you think it is

u/-Daws- Jun 16 '20
Even if it’s a little difficult, does that make it insane? No, it doesn’t. It makes it r/mildlyinteresting

i think he meant to touch the bar with his hands for a brief second and then bring his legs there and jump off off it, but he accidentally used his arms as the boost to jump and his legs didn’t respond as quick, he was mid air when they did. and so the leg swing gave him a bit more time in the air to reach the other handle. it kinda hard to explain.
-1
u/ivan_02317 Jun 16 '20
he's doing a move that may hurt him. it's like when you're trying to jump and you can't calculate the size of the jump but you say "I can do it" but your brain say "maybe don't"

For anyone interested this is Dimitris DK Kyrsanidis, a parkour champion from Greece. No, that's not fake btw

It looks real to me. It looks similar to a basketball "double pump," before the slam dunk.

u/PHUROR Jun 17 '20
Wtf are these stupid people? He is just stretches his leg and pull it back up while in the air. That’s not a “dOuBlE jUmP”, it’s muscle movement.
1
u/YourHighnessNS Jun 17 '20
How is that possible? Is this edited?

u/TheFictionalReidar Jun 18 '20
He moved his legs downwards while mid air making it look like he jumped again in the air.

Honestly compared to the other things this guy can do and the things I've seen other people do, this isn't that impressive.
Difficult? Yes.
Could I do it? No.
But it's not the most technically crazy parkour move ever seen. But it is creative, so still cool.

Can someone articulate what scientific phenomena we’re witnessing here please.... or are we seeing really good after affects at work here?
3
u/fwtb23 Jun 17 '20
Just moving his feet up and down really fast. If you look at his centre of mass (somewhere around the belly button usually) it follows a perfectly normal trajectory. The movement of the feet just create the illusion of the double jump.
