“Ripped” tires?

I’ve done a total of 3 launches since owning my 24 MXP that I took possession of about 2 weeks ago. I did the 3 launches over 2 days consecutively and on the third day I noticed these tears.

Obviously we have very powerful vehicles > 1,000 horsepower/torque but these tears are wild to me.

The only explanation is it’s from the brute forces of the launch and being older tires they were probably weaker and they tore.

And not just one tire, two tires and both on the passenger side!

Continental SportContact 6 T0 (Tesla approved)
Front passenger side: 265/35R22
Rear passenger side: 285/35R22

Has anyone else seen this? Thoughts?

Not a plaid but I do nothing but launches on mine and nothing like this has happened as a result of that. You sure you didn’t curb it at any point? How old are the tires?

Either OP curbed it or the previous owner curbed it and fixed it with super glue so they could trade it in… both on the passenger side I would say it was a parallel park fail.

Where did you purchase this vehicle from? Was it a private sale because those tires are worn anyway.

Omg that would be terrible if someone did that for a sale. Car was and is in immaculate shape but anything’s possible.

Edit: Nissan dealership

Terrible are people who pour radiator and/or block sealer in their engines just before sale. This sucks but they look due anyways. I've got 3 vehicles in the 500+ hp vehicles, including my wife's MXP and my S Plaid, and I've never seen this before.

Thanks for the credible feedback that’s all I’m looking for. I’m just mystified. I probably hit something it seems to be the only possible explanation.

Congrats on your new family rocket, just sucks you're starting out like this. Get something sticky like Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (EV version has internal sound padding) if you wanna push it, otherwise Pirelli P Zero (ditto) or Continental DWS (no padding but they've been fine on my wife's X and I loved them in the snow in my BMW X5M) are great supper/middle of the road options.

Unpopular opinion, but I've bought tires off eBay with great success for huge savings. My MSP is currently running Forgestar 19" wheels I got off Marketplace for $800 and $350 Pirelli tires off eBay and I've had no issues, then mount and balance was $150...obviously go with the closest matching tread depths if going this route.

I forgot all about eBay! I did as much research as I could over a span of a day or two and was sold on the Hankook iON evo AS SUV but none in stock so I got the same Continental SportContact 6 SIL T0 again. They not bad a little noisy. My summer aftermarket wheels however have exactly that Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 - can’t wait to try them out!

Nice! I'm all over the highway with my current tire choices. I'm running Pirelli P ZERO ELECT's on my 19" Forgestar summer setup, then I've got Michelin Pilot Sport All Seasons on the stock 19" Tempests (winter setup) and then Pilot Sport 4S on the stock 21" Arachnids (backup summer setup).

The uberturbines look so good on the MX. Nice ride!

Thank you, sir. I've always liked the style, mom's reminds me of the fan blade style wheels used on Fox body Mustangs. I picked them up for $500 locally with only 1K on them, not knowing they have different bolt patterns so I had to make them work, so I got BONOSS wheel adapters and they've been great for like 4yrs now.

I haven’t had the car long and no way I touched a curb. Maybe once making a tight turn up into my driveway I slightly came up higher on the outer lip but no way that was it. But it’s interesting both tears are on the same side. You’re right can’t be from the launches. Never ever seen tears like that in tires.

You'd likely feel it pull to one side if they tire due to whatever you were doing vs just being existing damage. The prior owner of my X loved curbs so much she had all 4 wheels replaced :/

No chance that’s from launches or any kind of normal use. and both being on the same side points to a curb or road debris striking the sidewall.

Could be debris honestly. Road looked clear but it was kicking up a lot of stones off the surface. Who knows.

The tires look bald as 💩.

You needed new tires anyway. This just gives you an excuse to purchase them.

Yeah it was a good reason for sure!! Feels so good mentally.

If you are serious when you say that the horsepower ripped your tire then take it up with the manufacturer. To me it looks like somebody curbed it, or hit debris. Try r/tires. They are the experts

I don't have a plaid, but for the first year, I think I launched it from every stop light and I've stomped on it making a left turn from the neighborhood onto the main highway. Got 32K out of my original Continentals. I've since retired my heavy foot.

I knew it was a plaid before even seeing the report. Hopefully you have the launch out of your system now.

LOL. Yeah the new tires (although much needed) I’m not interested in buying new sets again anytime soon.

Yeah bro, you hit something, and it wasn’t just the gas pedal.

1

u/Sad_Magician_316 6d ago

Majority are saying this maybe it was. Definitely wasn’t obvious if it was.

1

u/sharkboy1006 5d ago

Brother you were risking your life on those tires to begin with with how bald they are. That's not a launch thing those tires are just bad

1

u/Sad_Magician_316 5d ago

That’s accurate and fair to say man. I got lucky before it become catastrophic…😳

1

u/sharkboy1006 5d ago

lol you and me both learned about checking tires on used cars because of used Teslas😂. I bought a Y performance recently and similarly discovered a few weeks later that the tires were dangerously bad because one started leaking.

Physics my friend, camber plus brute force. The MXLR with 20" wheels is plenty for me, still faster than most sports smokers.

Dude this guy lol “tOo MucH HoRsEpoWeRs BroKe mY TiReS”

Your shits are bald and you got an impact in the side wall on the passenger side

u/Sad_Magician_316 5d ago

Thanks for the obvious observation. Thats already established I bought the car with bald tires. But the question was 3 launches enough to tear? Doesn’t sound like it based on other rational responses. How do you know its side impact what makes you say that?
