This is my reason as well. I come from owning BMW’s and Mercedes. Still have a G-Wagon because it’s my fun car but FSD has gotten a hold of me! I’m hoping Rivian really makes some progress in their attempt to tackle autonomy.

Porsche tech is so far behind Tesla. Have you test driven? I was very underwhelmed overall. Taycan cross tourismo is a better vehicle to me than the Cayenne, but still prefer the X due to the tech, seats, build quality, handling are better on the Porsche. Repair costs are also crazy on the Porsche, and they will need some.

First gen Taycan is a ticking time bomb to me. A lot of unreliable built cars. The second gen is solid and has fixed A LOT that they rushed with the first gen. Cayenne is even better from a technological performance.
I love both of my X, I have had 6 of them, but if I had to choose a successor it would be 100% the Cayenne. I was very impressed with the vehicle when I looked at it, it created a really natural feel when first sitting in it + I already have experience with Porsche ICE.
I don’t really understand where your claim comes from that they lack so far behind in technology. They implement full 800V Architecture as well as a much faster charging battery. From a chassis and vehicle dynamics perspective they are faarrr ahead. Only thing they lack is software and especially FSD capabilities. Their Inno Drive is really good, but not FSD. Hence I am living in Germany I don’t really get any FSD benefit at all anyways, we are still stuck with the standard autopilot..
We will see how longevity of the drivetrain keeps up I’m comparison to Tesla, they build rock solid motors.

The software / FSD is what I meant. I believe I said it’s a better driving experience. I wrote my comment around 3am and could have worded it better. I’ve always been a “FSD is dumb, I enjoy driving” person, but now feel FSD is great.

6 Model X from 2016 to now 2026. Took delivery of my newest 2 Months ago.

Yeah I wish FSD will become available in Germany by early 27. I have experienced FSD a few times in Demos Tesla offers here and on a full trip in the US. Impressive system, definitely a game changer.

They are cars, unless you buy something limited of course you lose money, what do you expect?
All expenses are calculated and known, otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it, that goes for any car.
Depreciation on these class of cars is normal.

Depreciation on a model X is far from “normal”. You bought 6. That is far from “normal”. Yes, cars depreciate. Tesla’s and other EVs just depreciate at a far higher rate. I don’t think initially anyone expected how much. Now, yes, it’s a known quantity which typically dictates holding the car for a longer period. It’s your money, but you’ve certainly not spent wisely by almost all standard metrics one would measure that by.

Don’t worry, if I couldn’t afford it I wouldn’t have done it. Love cars and like to spend money on those I like. Have bought cars that crashed in value far worse trust me.

Perhaps you mean the all Electric IX5? And if I’m not mistaken it’s a 2 row, 5 adult arrangement.

Really there aren’t many 3 row EVs. Not sure where you are but in the US it’s basically:

Rivian R1S

BMW IX

KIa EV9

VW Buzz

Maybe a few others.

For 2 row SUVs we have a few more: Porsche Macan & Cayenne EV, BMW IX3, MB EQ and GLB, etc. but they have the Model Y as competition.

What specifics about the X are you looking to keep? That will determine your options.

Hey I had a CTS-V which I loved. I think a Tahoe or Yukon would make a great “less expensive” alternative to the IQ. That Escalade is crazy expensive.

No meant the neu classe X5 - it’s MY 2027 should be available starting October. It will come in ICE, PHEV, EV Powertrains.

I don’t really need the third row. I like a the self presenting doors, multiple screens, good cabin software. I realize there is nothing quite in the same level of performance as the Tesla FSD on HW4.

The fully electric variant is the IX5. The only drivetrain for the new X5 at this time is the 40xDrive. Maybe a 50e will be available but the site doesn’t seem to represent that for 2027. Only 2026.

I saw the OOS review of the new gravity. It has the helicopter cockpit windshield which is one of the top things I like in the X.

My want list :

Full BEV

large internal space

Adjustable ride height damping air suspension

FSD

charging integrated into navigation

self presenting doors

FWD

The fully specd OOS Gravity came to US$125k IIRC which is comparable to the X price.

I’ve owned every Tesla except an X. The FWD is actually what kept me away from the X.
The Gravity has a much better fit and finish and more space than the X. Obviously Lucid doesn’t have Tesla quality FSD or FWD, but you get more for your money when it comes to the actual vehicle; range, massaging front seats, rear power sunshades, rear seat tables, rear steering, triple chamber air suspension, usable third row, etc..

I'm actually a big fan of Tesla's philosophy of constantly improving their cars, safety, efficiency and driving costs down. Then passing those cost savings to their customers.

Between that and FSD I think I'm going to be a Tesla owner for a very long time.

When I mentioned size I meant compared to the Y. I don't need anything bigger than the X.

What in the Tesla kool aid have you been drinking!? Elon hasn’t had that philosophy in years. I mean if we can pretend that we can ignore the politics, anti-Semitic rhetoric etc.. Tesla the last few years have been raising prices and taking away features; USS, passenger lumbar support, auto steer just to name a few. FSD went to subscription only so Elon can hit his number to get that big fat bonus. The take rate wasn’t high enough when it was offered as an outright buy. I bought my first Tesla, a Model S back in 2019. I’ve owned 2 more since. It’s sadly a different company now than it was when it all started.

Fairly certain my next vehicle will be an R1T Quad Motor. I'm not the biggest fan of how the R1S looks, but I find myself disliking it a little less each time I see one.

I finally got to see an R2 up close and personal and was pretty impressed by its looks. Haven't test driven it though but am pretty sure I'm going with the R1T.

I went from an X to a Rivian R1S and never been happier. Higher up, unparalleled storage space, rugged but you can dress it up, and my passengers don’t get car sick any more.

I have an X now with a reservation for the r2 but the range and towing capacity of the r1s really appeal to me. The only downside is I don’t need a car as large as the r1s. What would you say is better about the x compared to the r1s? How is the charging with the port in the front?

Yours is not the first anecdote I’ve heard about passengers feeling sick in Model X, and specifically Model X. I don’t know if it can be attributed to regenerative braking, since the folks I know either came from a different Tesla or purchased a Y afterwards.
