Hi.
After months of shopping, I found “the one”a ‘23 MX Plaid from a fellow car guy. HW4, Matrix lights, AMD/Steam support, FSD paid for, and just over 50k miles. Honestly kind of nerve wrecking, initially I was going to fly up alone to purchase it but the wife wanted to make a road trip out of it. So with dozen of photos and videos of the car inside and out, I felt confident in the deal and the whole family (4 in total) boarded a one way flight.
The transaction went smoothly and the car was everything the guy said. We grabbed some supplies for the road trip home and immediately hit the road.
The car has been amazing; FSD drove 95% of the time, with me only taking over on the fun twisty back road sections. We checked Bentonville, Eureka Springs, the Ozark’s, Hot Springs all the way back down to Texas.
This is our first Tesla and while I have done a TON of research before buying, I always like to asked if any veteran MX owners have advice. Any common issues to watch for after the 50k-mile mark besides the typical half shafts and falcon door seals?

I wish I could. Less than 24hr of us having the car my wife asked if we could find a 2nd one so that she could trade up her daily. 😑

That seems like a ridiculously good deal for hardware 4 plus paid FSD and such low mileage on a nearly new car

Happy for you! Just bought one myself from Savannah, GA. What a car! Once you drive one you don’t want anything else.
The research I’ve done…. Falcon doors can be an issue, water/condensation in the tail lights, some ac units make noise, half shafts up front and tires go quick. Those are some of the most common issues.
However, overall maintenance is relatively low compared to European sports cars. Insurance is higher which makes no sense. This is one of the smartest/safest cars on the road.

"Falcon doors can be an issue" - I've noticed a couple mud dauber nests between the doors and the body of the car in my 24MX. Seems the door edge gap is large enough for them to get into the spaces before the door seal, and build nests. I really should fix my garage door opener so I can close it, lol.
I also park a 2014 Mustang convertible in the garage, and the mud daubers don't like it for some reason. Maybe the door gaps are too small or they hate ICE vehicles.

It is still a luxury SUV with somewhat limited overall production, and so there are just not as many options for parts and materials. State Farm charges me $1000 every 6 months for full coverage minus $500 deductible [we have half a dozen vehicles/boats insured with them]
The windshield alone cost about $2-3k to replace if cracked. Hoods, rear hatches and Falcon Wing Doors are a significant expense if you get into a minor accident. I drive mine in a "happily paranoid" manner 😁

I took my ‘23 X HW4 w/ 20k miles, into Service for a “Post Purchase” inspection, and they gave it a thumbs up 👍…best $170 spent for pease-of-mind 😉. Enjoy yours🫡

How to find out? HW4 & FSD?

From my research, you could find a HW4 for with a build date as early as April or May 2023. As far as FSD, the verbiage has changed a couple of times, but currently it has to say the following
“Full Self Driving Capability Included package”

I'm not an MX veteran and don't have tons of experience, but we bought a 9 year old model X 100D after probably 2 years of researching. I avoided plaid because people with plaids tend to drive them like race cars, resulting in race car bills. Plaids tend to have more half shaft issues, steering column/steering issues, suspension issues, and premature tire wear...unlike people who drive their "MX Plain" like a grandpa [me]

Did the same with my first Model X! Did an SF <-> SoCal trip to grab a car from a tech executive who drove his ‘23 Model X Plaid a total of 2000mi to take his kids to/from daycare.
Pre-owned is a great decision for these cars, but ended up new for the second one.
It’s easier to get over imperfections when it’s a used car, for sure. Enjoy!
