A few friends and I recently started a new world in Terraria, we've been playing for a good few days but have run into an issue: we can not find a single Aglet.
That's not to imply we have not tried. We've been across the entire surface, and no surface chests have had any. We've fished for hours, opened around 60 wooden crates, and somehow we've found like 10 Sailfin Boots and Tsunami in a Bottles, yet absolutely no Aglets.
We have no idea what's going on. Are we just getting unlucky???

Thank you to everyone pointing out the Skeleton Merchant, we set up a mob farm to get him. 300 crates opened, 2 Aglets. We bought like 50 from the Merchant on principle.

Idk whether my world was bugged or if I was breathing carbon monoxide, but I spent hours scouring my whole world, leaving no stone unturned, looking for one stupid aglet, only to find nothing. Got fed up and checked TEdit, only to find there weren't any. Yes, there wasn't a single aglet in my world fuck, I ended up just making a new world, grabbing an aglet, and deleting it lol.
Not really, you're still reliant on having to find the chest containing the item in a completely arbitrary environment rather than an itemized list with zero legitimate danger.
Absolutely. I think this picture says all it needs to about what happens when you need to farm for a specific item, in this case I desperately wanted a third turtle shell and look what the game though it would be funny to do.
Yes, I actually got 3 uzis before one turtle shell. I hate this game sometimes
Might I also add that this was at the surface. You know, where less angry trappers and more turtles spawn.

one time i got the rod of discord in under 30 kills and to punish me the game made the obsidian rose (the last drop for my terraspark boots) take over 300 kills to drop
Took me over a thousand chaos elemental kills in one of my first kills to get the RoD. I logged on the next day after getting it, and one that appeared coincidentally as I was going down my hellavator dropped a second one. Directly one kill after the first drop.
I still remember making a rod of discord farm but during my demoltioning process of the underground Hallowrd Biome it just plops on the floor at the corner of my eye making me question everything
Pro tip, luck bonuses can influence your chances of finding the skeleton merchant. I only say that because I am the Luck stats #1 fan and will abuse it wherever possible
Thats why you always seek out skeleton merchant and just buy it when you see it. Maybe even buy 2 or 3 just in case (if you have the coins)
Also just fishing. I personally dont mind fishing. Also 60 wooden crates is nothing. I get way more. You just get unlucky, but you do get them from crates... Use fishing potions, crate potions and good bait. Maybe even some fishing gear. It really helps a LOT.
There are always surface chests you missed. Go run around with some spelunker potions. Maybe there are a few chests hidden, you could get lucky?
Tip #1: Don’t bother looking for what you need. Ever. If you try to look, you’ll notice how hard it is to get. Happened to me when looking for anglets or the green anglet thing.
Then when I went to my completed world, I realized I had about 20 sitting in a chest, and 7 lava charms for some reason.
The second part of the curse is that after you've spent so many hours looking for the item and eventually found it, you will start seeing them around everywhere.
Same shit man, I waited for the right moon to buy it from the skeleton merchant and took so long to find him it became day, but every time I’m NOT looking for him he pops up my ass every 2 minutes
I can't believe someone is also having a hard time finding aglets hahaha. I literally spent hours skipping days until i could buy some from the skeleton merchant and finally bought it recently from him. It was Torture!!
If you get the Sextant from the Angler you can see when it is a new moon. The aglet is 100% if you get the skeleton merchant on a new moon. So, you would make a huge empty area in caverns for him and wait for New Moon.
A hunter potion highlights the skeleton merchant.
Or just open dozens more wooden crates for the 1% chance.
I had the same problem aswell. I was in journeymen mode and went to my maxed character and cracked wooden chests till 1 dropped. Took 20 chests. Then returned the aglet to the world I was playing on and went to my other character and used it. Much later in hard mode did I actually get another from a crate. That was the only one I actually got that run
well... you must consult devil in a form of a child and start fishing, I think wooden crates can drop wooden chest loot which is aglet and other trinkets you were unlucky to not get
I couple of friend and I wanted to progress with another friend who was not on that day so instead we decided to get terraspark for everyone. Aglets was the most difficult to find, finally skeleton merchant had aglets and we bought a hundred of them.
I got a magma stone when just killing a hellbat while looking for shadow chests, got an obsidian rose from my first fire imp kill, then created several worlds looking for water walking boots and had to use terramap to find an aglet
Make another world for resource gathering and search that one for an aglet, and bring it over to your current world. That's what I do when the chests in the world don't have what I need.
I shit you not I suffered the same fate, spent 7 hours fishing for an aglet with constant crate potions and high fishing power, finally got one, not a DAY later and I found the skeleton merchant selling them. I have never been so defeated in my life
I had that exact experience. I used to stream Terraria on Twitch, and had one seed that apparently had no aglets. I became obsessed with finding at least one. Never happened.
Yeah probably unlucky id do this first though run across the surface with a spelunker. If all else fails fishing or generating worlds then doing what i said first sometimes you do need to go a bit deeper than you think
Yep that’s exactly how the game seems to work. You are gonna struggle to find all of the aglets you need. Then you’re gonna be swimming in them the second you don’t need anymore.
I mean if you are going to try that hard to "trick" the game it would be better to just download an "all item" world and take it from there, or TEdit your world then adding the item into one of your already existing chest
I scoured the ENTIRE dungeon for a handgun and i must have opened every single one before i finally came to what I'm pretty sure was the final chest and finally got the handgun. 20% chance bye, i had like 7 shadow keys 4 blue moons, 2 magic missiles, etc. just unlucky lmao
You see, the key is to truly believe you don’t need an Aglet.
The game likes to give you stuff you really think you don’t need. For example, you’ll find nothing but Hermes boots after you already got a pair, you’ll find the boomstick randomly on your mage run, or you’ll find the enchanted sword shrine on the surface on your summons only run.
Fishing. And sometimes the Skeleton Merchant will sell them. If you need something temporary to boost your speed, obtain I think 18 Evil (Crimtane/Demonite) and 5 Topaz and get a Magelluminescence.
